More updates planned for December, including giving Randolph his winter flight back for the season.

Vangaurd is not vastly improved.  I went back the week it went free to play and I will say this the lag that we had durring launch is still there.  yes they had some bug fixing, they are suposed to get new content, but vastly improved no its not.

It is what it always will be a niche game that could have been so much more, mostly forgotten but all but a few.

You must have logged into the wrong game bro, the lag we had at launch has been long gone for years, the game is indeed improved  a LOT and the new content should be rolling in now that the dev team has SOE support.

Silius killed this game back in 2008 with his crap'tastic "vision', or lack there off. He stripped VG of everything fun, unique and cool and replaced it with his ideal game - viewed through WoW' envy specticles. Now the game is just testicles.

Looking forward to the new content update. I might come back and give it another try. Still one of the best games I have ever played.

I logged in tonight after having been away for some time.

There were a lot of people on, and someone said VG is now on Steam, which ofc would explain the pop rise. Haven't seen this many people running around ever, I think. I played for a while before f2p (dismal pop, hardly anyone on at any time), right around the f2p relaunch (noticable increase in pop and then decline again).

Still, the game is pretty unpolished, there are crashes, some lag, some annoying bugs, and so on. But it's still unrivalled when it comes to sheer atmosphere and the magic sense of being in an actual world. Now that SOE is actually giving it the attention it deserves, things can only get better.

Now, if they only got rid of tab-target combat, re-wrote all the "kill ten X" quests and started a PvP server, I'd sub in an instant! :D

Too bad its free to play crap game !

Pay the sub and you can fully enjoy the game.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Gameplay is way too clunky for me, unfortunately.

I recently came back and started playing again, been having a good time grouping in Dargun's Tomb with my friends. I haven't played since the game release, a ton has improved since the time when I was the first 50 disciple in the game. It's interesting to see that some people who were on my friends list are still logging into the game, 5 years later.

I will say the game still has some buggy issues, but the GM's respond within minutes so far. Vanguard always has had the best world of any game I've played, Darkfall being #2, but the class system in Vanguard makes it the most fun PvE game I've ever played. You can see what Brad McQuaid has done in Vanguard and how closely it resembles Everquest.

As a free to play game, I wouldn't rate it too high. It's certainly not bad as a f2p, but there are restrictions still. As a pay to play game, it's better than any other PvE game out there right now.

I am glad we fired him from eq2 and sent him back to vangaurd, he has no clue of what he is doing.

Sorry but this game is still nothing but a hot mess. I played it for several months back on initial release and then I played again when it re-launched as Freemium.

The lag made it completely unplayable for 3 days and I gave up for the second and last time on this game.

That's unfortunate, after they fixed the lag from launch the game ran beautifully for years, it was just pretty empty and had no support. Then when F2P happened and we got all this new support, they broke something and re-introduced a ton of the lag again just as people were checking the game out. It was very unfortunate timing.

The new dev team has been hard at work though, the lag issues have pretty much been remedied again by this point. The game is running smoothly, the population is growing significantly (I've seen a lot of new folks running about), and we just got a big content patch last week that we've been waiting for for a long time. Things are looking very promising.

Also if your playing one slower machine designed with WoW in mind. This game is still very Demanding and takes a decent computer to run. Overall though the game seems to be running great. No lag here and I play on a ASUS gaming laptop.

There is still lag but you will not see it till you reach a much higher level and it is NOTHING like it was at the F2P launch.  That was fixed and the game runs fine 99% of the time.  I enjoy the game (and the crafting and Diplo mini systems as well) you should give it a shot if you are into open world games and can cope with everything not being on rails.

Loving it so far - also playing on an Asus gaming laptop.

I love how in-depth the character creation is!

Played: Ultima Online - DaoC - WoW -

I haven't decided if I'll play full-tilt again or not, but I have logged into to say hi to old friends.  I saw ALOT of people on from my friends list which was a very pleasant surprise.

When I quit over a year ago, there was no lag for me, it ran very smoothly.  When I logged on recently, same deal, no lag, ran very smoothly.

I came back to Vanguard recently, and am having a lot of fun. What I like about it:

    - open world, zero instancing. Nothing on "rails".

    - vast amount of content. There are many dungeons and areas for each level.

    - good crafting and diplomacy mini-games

    - there's a decent amount of people now, I see players LFG of all levels.

I get a bit of lag, but nothing to be a problem. Game hasn't crashed on me. It's a fun, old-school MMORPG.

Did they made any real updated to the game engine? Last time when i checked the games the forums was full with stuff about that almost all programmers left the game and the engine will not get any updates in the future.

Unfortunately they had major lag issues with the overload of players in the starting areas and it chased people away..

    again :(

I am paying a sub to play, but I cant recommend the game to anybody in good faith. There are more bugs/typos/incomplete quests/zones than any mmorpg I have ever played. I am dead serious bout that. It has the overall feel of a very unpolished gem that you know will not get much love in the future. Ive put in more bug petitions in 3 months than I have in every game ive played combined. Good thing the GMs are some of the best around. You just have accept it is what it is and ignore the fanboys/haters who are both doin a bad disservice to other gamers with their skewed statements.

In its defense, I will admit that the game has aged fairly well, all things considered. I still have some choppiness which is boggling considering my current system, and the whole seamless world is highly overstated what with the chunk lines and all. BUT compared to, say EQ2 which looks very dated IMHO, the graphics are pretty good. Even the oft maligned character models and animations I think are decent.

The quests in VG directed me from quest hub to quest hub just like WoW.  Rest I can generally agree with except the lag.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.
