SWTOR player numbers quadrupled since F2P launch...

Nice to see the servers thriving and many former players returning as well as lots of new players trying the game out :)

Well this thread is if anything ironic.

Lemme see, when STO went F2P it jumped in population, so did Aion and City of Heroes but they all dwindled down in a few months.

So don't jump to conclusions, especially with this trashy F2P thing SWTOR has.

Oh and yes, this thread is silly, wonder where old one is, would be hilarious to comapre lol

F2P doesnt take away from the fact why the game failed to begin with.

Most of the other paid games that went F2P were actualy pretty decent (lotro, ddo, aion, and others).

Thats only your point of view.

Like the others are saying, I expect a short term bump and then a population drop.  Same thing happened with ww2online's f2p.
  • fenistilfenistil Member Posts: 3,005

almost all games that go f2p have population increase.    It is normal.

Question is what will happen after few months.   Will they be able to still hold that much players or will it decrease like it frequently happens?

  • erictlewiserictlewis Member UncommonPosts: 3,022
quadrupled no, not according to torstatus.net. The real test is if they keep these folks, I dought they will.

Last weekend SWTOR had about 12k hours played/day on XFire.

The weekend before that SWTOR had about 5k hours played per day on XFire.

As ImperialSun dictated that SWTOR player numbers quadrupled since F2P launch that must be true. That allows us to make a simple calculation that the playtime per SWTOR player decreased by 40% since SWTOR FP2 launch. That was a quick drop.

    Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

So the game is up to about 100,000 players now. Nice.

They had about 700-800 players on x-fire till a few weeks before F2P. Then it increased to about 900-1000 just before the launch of F2P. And now it's at 2751 for a sunday which most likely will be the max it reaches during F2P. Will probably be downhill from now on again. It's not surprising to see a big surge just at release. I'm more surprised it wasn't higher than only about 3x more than before. But I would guess that population was down as low as about 250-300k only so.

Forum readers make up a tiny percent of the MMO gamer population. Most gamers never see or hear about what happens here.

    Wow...

Must really piss you guys off that there is anything positive to highlight.

And for all of the times the usual suspects use x-fire as "definitive" proof of SWTORs failure...

    Thats a two way street...

Enjoy your hating...I'm off to have fun ig :)

Exactly. Despite what people may think after hanging out on this forum, many people are actually playing and enjoying SWTOR. These forums are in no way representative of the actual health of the game.

Sorry Dfire can not and should not ever be used to gauge any sort of population metrics.  Hardly any one uses it and definetly no one I know.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

At some point everybody agreed that xfire numbers are not about population but about trends, For now it's up. I hope it will stay that way :)

No forums are ever representative of the actual health of a game.  Just like most healthy people don't go to WEBMD, most people simply enjoying the game don't visit the forums.    And if you're anything like me, going to WEBMD when you thought you were perfectly healthy leaves you suddenly second-guessing yourself....   Hence I don't visit forums for games I'm enjoying.

That said, SWTOR was soooo bad.  Hah.  :p

    It displays trends though right?

And if the trend on x-fire is up so sharply, given that hardly anyone uses it...I wonder what the trend is like accross the broader player base?

Besides, according to the GW2 boards x-fire is definitive...or is that definitive as long as it shows what they want it to lol :)
