Just remove voice acting from free™ version and it will be perfect f2p SWTOR,no other restrictions.

Everything else in that product is a mess anyways.

It's a limitation of the content management system, Frodo.  Usually Suzie enters articles, or me, or Mike.  Whoever touches it last before it goes live the first time is who gets stamped on the forum post associated with the feature.  In this case, I touched it last.

Thanks for the info.  It's not a big deal and I've learned to look at who the author is, but this confusion pops up a lot.

Slightly less optimistic but fair :P

They should hire you!  You actually know the game and genre and can look at it objectively.  You even mentioned the hotbars being a PITA as well as mentioning that their model isn't going to magically fix the issues they had in getting subscribers.

http://www.torhead.com/ability/3oj9LWe/spinning-strike it should be instant, but, theres some animation on it ,and your next attack will stop that animation and nothing happens and you get global cooldown and you must try spinning strike again, with better luck.

Theres no way in hell that anyone can enjoy that kind of lottery.

And in worst case scenario ,that opponent should be dead by now but instead of that its me who is going to die.

And that is not the only attack with problems theres plenty more, those issues are still there no matter what EA says.

SWTOR is a good game checking out.  It gets bashed a lot, mostly by clueless nublets who think it's trendy or cool to bash it.  Was it ever worth $15/mo - that's the problem, IMO it was not.  Of course, I don't think WoW is worth $15/mo but tons of fools pay bliz monthly for next to nothing.   It's WoW's fault that companies like BioWare think they can ship incomplete and unbalanced games and charge a sub just for the honor of playing (on top of full box price).

I'm pretty much sick of most F2P.  F2P is another trendy thing that's way overrated.  Most of F2P is BS, scams, restrictions, and not fun.  GW2 does buy and F2P ok, but you still too often feel steered to the cash shop.

I would much rather pay a sub for ALL access and not deal with nickel, dime, and devs/designers looking for ways to restrict the game to make money off of microtransactions that just become a hassle.  I want to play a full game, not most of a game with financial decisions throughout.

Why do I mention all of this?

Because IMO, the F2P model BioWare is unleashing for SWTOR is utter garbage.  It's a convoluted mess of restrictions and complications.  As someone who bought the box, paid for several months, and ultimately put over $100 into the game, there is no way I could now do F2P and have everything I previously earned stripped away.  That would not be fun.

If you have never played the game before, the F2P is like an extended trial that will ultimately show you that the only way to really enjoy the game without hassles is to sub.

Then you're back to the SWTOR is nowhere near worth $15/mo.

I would much rather have seen BioWare make SWTOR worth $15/mo.

And btw, the ONLY MMORPG worth $15/mo is Rift - because Trion cranks out ungodly amounts of content and features for your sub dollar.  All other subs are paying for the privelidge of logging on with a joke of an amount of content added over time for the money, and are not worth it.  This is why we have so much F2P idiocy - greedy sub-based devs NOT delivering and making it worth it.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

i agree that it's a solid game, there's just nothing to do once you do everything.  The bane of all MMOs I suppose, but SWTOR only took me a 3 day weekend to burn through everything at launch.  MMOs are too fast today...bring back the year long struggle to level.

The only thing I found myself doing for 3 months after launch was making weapons and selling them on my bounty hunter, I was kinda a Cartel on my server.  People would hear from word of mouth and mail me what they wanted, and I'd get it for them...one way or another ;)

write it off because you don't like it? So the fact that all of us that still sub want to keep playing it doesn't matter, becaus YOU don't like it. We should just have the game we enjoy playing canned because, you don't like it...

Yeah, that makes since. Perhaps you should simply go find a game worthy of your superior opinion.

I wonder if EA Bioware might have made more money selling 8 different single player/co-op games?

A seperate game for each class. No sub fee.

I'm sure more than a few would have bought multiple versions to play each class through. I probably would've been suckered into it...

The article reminds me of why people were fooled in the first place thinking this was a solid game. Sorry but making it f2p doesn't change anything.

After watching this I will pass. I did a lot of work on crafting and not being able to use my purple gear is a big no no. Good Luck EA you will need it.

This game is still a solid game and I found more groups in world content in SWTOR than GW2 TSW or any other of these so called "savior" games that this community love to push in your faces. While this game has flaws with being linear , it doesnt at all change the fact that its still a decent game , just YOU do not like it. The OP and staff are right with what they say but some of you just refuse to say its not the game for you and move on instead of bashing the crap out of it at every turn because its not your precious SWG2 that failed right after release also btw.

It's worth trying out for one single reason:

Play at EA's expenses and show them that they won't get any money if they treat free players like crap.

  • KarteliKarteli Member CommonPosts: 2,646

HK-51 will be just as crappy as every other companion.  New tag name, new graphics, bout it.

If EA really wanted to impress gamers, they would stop what they are doing and add real stuff that fans wanted, like swoop racing, Pazaak/Sabaac, casinos, decent graphics engine, etc.

Adding more of the same isn't going to work.  EA wanted to "more than compete with WoW", and they just keep missing the mark.

Lol.  The game is free for you and yet you are still going out of your way to hate on it.

You aren't paying for anything.  Nothing.  Are you missing lots of features? Of course. But you can still play the base game for free.

    good lord.

whatever .i am gonna play it and enjoy it .
  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770
Yes it IS a solid [game] and the best part of the game, the class story, will be completely free to play through. That is enough reason to return if you haven't played through them yet. I can't say I'm happy with the restrictions but we'll see how bad they are.

    EA/Bioware is full of stupid.

Everyone remember the "missing" top graphics mode once it went live?  I remember it being called "a bug".

Downloading as we speak, very excited to get back to the mmo with the best story line, and F2P is great for medium core players

    I agree.

Nobody forces you guys to try this game. You should be glad that BioWare is giving away for free the best part of the Game - the story.

Reading these forums sometimes makes me really sick. There is so much hate here that no wonder there is such a misery on the Earth. If mere game can bring so much hate...  Good Lord!

This is the entire reason I wont touch it.  Limiting the UI ?  Really?  I'm okay with some limitations but this is just ridiculous.  The slower leveling limitation irks me as well.

But this is just an obvious tactic to get people playing, hoping they'll like it, and subscribe.  I barely even consider this a F2P conversion.

  • BattlerockBattlerock Member CommonPosts: 1,393

I played it for 2 months at release, I believe it actually is a solid game but its just not worth a sub, its about 8 years too late for sub pricing. F2P makes this a much more solid game, and if your actually into getting a little more engaged than your normal run of the mill mmo then swtor may be a good fit for you.

Not to bad for all the critizism I have given this game in the past, F2P can change my perspective. My combat medic and my Jedi Consular I had suprising become rather fond of. Good ole WoW pulled me back off, as well as Rift, but F2P may pull me off of GW2 now for a bit.

    Smart move SWTOR

  • ThupliThupli Member RarePosts: 1,318

He's right, it's a solid game, just like WoW is a solid game.

You may be burned out on the WoW model, but that doesn't mean it isn't a solid game.

    Just saying.

Why don't you try leveling a character using only 2 action bars.  See how long you last before giving up.

    It's not a F2P conversion, it's a Freemium conversion.

It's aimed at nickle and diming cusomters so they will no-longer play. and EA can get out of the LA contract.

If EA can get out of the contract, then can stop losing money.  Because this game loses money.  500k subscribers gets the money back, per THEIR statements.   Less than that and they need to tank the game.

The F2P (Freemium) game was made unappealing.  Oops.  That's how it goes.
