If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
In terms of weight, the SWG startup song was powerful because it directly pulled you into the world of the movies, and was written by one of the best living composers, John Williams.
Other than that, both EverQuest and Dark Age of Camelot had amazing loading screen themes. EQ's has a bit more legacy though.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
Even though I've no intention of subscribing to anything Activision-Blizzard again, I can still recognize that WoW had some amazing, memorable music tracks. Culling of Stratholme for example, the music is absolutely flawless for the way it fits the dungeon's theme and story.
O_O come on guys, no mmorpg can come close to FFXI , mhaura, sanctuary of zitah , ronfaure, awakening, tavnazian arch, currents of time ,all the vanadiel march´s, all the battle themes ect ..... and of course :
For me, the most powerful MMO music captures that feeling of "returning home after a long journey." The two tracks that capture that best for me are FFXI's Gustaberg music and WoW's Ashenvale/Teldrasil music. They both conjure up so many fond memories.

Probably this, if we're going for lyrical pieces.

For nostalgia, I love the tune from Rivervale in EQ, but in terms of pure quality I have to say the whole of the Age of Conan score.

UO's Stones comes in a close second.
Pick just about any track from Age of Conan.
Anarchy Online also has some great stuff. One thing you can say about Funcom, they have great soundtracks to their games.

Those AoC tracks were most definitely awesome.
