Aimbots and F2P

So, if you look around on youtube and google there are already multiple aimbots, maphacks, and wallhacks available.  How do you guys think ps2 will fair being that its free to play so if a hacker gets banned they can be back in game with no $$ lost in a couple minutes hacking away again.  And no, just banning an IP does nothing as anyone can get a vpn cheap and easy these days.  Not too mention SOE's lack of ability to stop them in the first place.  I really think SOE have shot themselves in the foot making ps2 free to play / pay to win as their game will be overrun with aimbotter's ruining everyone's fun.

P.S. I have been playing ps2 am fairly decent 1.88 k/D and have most definitely already seen these being used.  Not super common but common enough to be annoying already and the game hasn't even come out yet.

I'm not too worried, I don't really notice it when I'm playing with friends, I just go and have a good time, I'm usually piloting a liberator, or driving a magrider...

I know these things are out there, and being used as well, but the vast majority don't use them.. (I'm sure we'll all get called hackers when we get a lucky shot off) it's gonna be the #1 excuse for when people die "That dude is hacking!", like it was in APB.

APB had a lot of aimbotting going on, but it wasn't as rampant as people made it out to be.

Edit: The reason why I know that the vast majority won't use these are for 2 reasons..

    1. The Aimbot software usually cost money.

    2. If someone does use an Aimbot, he'll probably get bored fast.. Can only have so much fun letting a software play for you.

No one likes playing against cheaters, but they won't be as common as everyone is making it out to be.  Hackers/cheaters always kill their own fun faster than anyone else.  So they come and go really quickly.  And most PS2 fights are going to have lots of players, so hackers even get caught in the fire.  They aren't invicilbe, so in order for them to keep cheating, they still ahve to play it safe, which will get boring fast.

the sad truth to this is that Planetside 2 will be no exception to this problem.

the game will have hackers and cheaters its just human nature to seek paths of least resistance regardless of the rules long as they dont get caught.

the only marginal thing that i have seen with this community and game itself is that  many outfits in general are against hackers/cheaters/aimbot users. Some outfits would go out of their way to kick and/or even report the cheater to SOE to get rid of them, mostly for the purpose of keeping their reputation within their empire let alone game.

the worse thing for a outfit to do is to harbor a hacker AND try to cover it up - it can cost them trust from other outfits in the empire, social relations in case they have to go to another empire to find a new home, a reputation of supporting hackers will make many outfit leaders give you the dirty eye before they even consider doing any alliances with you;  Even worse if you are outfit that doesnt stand out and make difference on the battlefield. those that do work with them may end up recieving some of that drama -- in  common cases, people leave outfits if the drama gets out of hand.

If things become too extreme, such as a outfit being filled with hackers being that extreme scenario,  SOE wouldnt have no problem disbanding a whole outfit if it becomes a eyesore to them or to the community, PS1 has a history of banned outfits due to crazy and not so crazy stuff,  im very certain PS2 will be no different.

    the BIG HOWEVER...

hackers commonly would lone wolf, due to being in a outfit would cause alot of problems, and there would be too many eyes watching, unless the said hacker and outfit mates have a strong trust to cover up their underhanded actions, 9 out of 10 times people will do what they can to preserve themselves vs. hiding a crime at the risk of getting banned.

So if a hacker were to get banned, it would usually be due to being overly obvious with their actions,  again when they do get banned. more likely they themselves will just make another account and start all over again (unless SOE does something to ban them permanently--dont know how they would pull that off)

I don't expect SOE to handle hackers, they didn't do a good job of it in PS1- it took them 6 months to patch the old speedstep exploit that made you move and do things 2x fast because of a laptop speedstep BIOS feature, and there were hackers that were able to see you cloaked from 2 miles away and SOE didn't ban many.

I agree with you on almost everything you posted.

However, if there is a Lone hackers the servers and staff behind PS2 will be able to see what background programs are running through the player. I've seen SOME if ever hackers/ cheaters in PS1 and they were ALWAYS Banned in a day or two so I am not worried at all, SOE can be hard asses which is a good thing because no one likes hackers, they just suck and need software to play the game.

I would even go as far to report these people to their ISP and black list these people who are causing harm to these games/companies so they can be punished for what they did, I find it pretty bad we have to worry about these morons, hell we should shut down these websites that release these programs and find out who is responsible for said site.

Yup they are already out there, over on Planetside universe there is a thread about it and how people are starting to see them often.

Can't remember to many AAA MMO games that had hackers in beta.....I have no clue how SOE will react, if history is a judge (Planetside 1)... Not very well sadly

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Erm....every single mmo beta for the last 10 years, maybe longer?

You think  people in betas are testing? Most are free-playing and report nothing but many are looking for bugs and exploits they won't report and abuse on release. Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they are not there. There are clans who specialise in breaking game code and finding/abusing glitches and they are always on the increase. Back in the old FPS they were hackers, aimbotters, wallhackers, these days they are exploiters and griefers.

I can't think of many mmo's that haven't released without people cheating, hacking or exploiting in some way from day 1.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

VPN's are cheap, and legal, so are VPS which gives better protection than a VPN but more expensive, and dedicated scripts connecting through a VPN or such is even better but harder to do.

Also IP's change every so often if I ever get banned I just call my ISP ask them to change my IP that easy for me anyways.

However there are also people who can afford the expensive fancy VR Gear/controllers too for example Heard tracking gear too and set just right I assume they could aim better than anyone never know when you will run into a few people like that.

Im sure some people wouldn't mind using one of these for their mouse ;)

I do agree however I just went to google and searched for " PlanetSide 2 Aimbot" I got a whole listing of YouTube videos and such.

LOL hey mmorpg mods you guys need to take a look at your google ads software that people see on this site when they are not logged in.   This is the one that appeared on this page before I logged in.

    [mod edit]

I know you guys aren't supportive of hacking in games, BUT you are actively promoting (taking money) from those that do!!

My IP isn't even fixed.  So unless they want to ban my whole country, baning Ip don't fix anything.

The truth is every FPS will have aimbot, and every RTS will have map hack.

Only way to remove the cheat is auto targeting and no fog of war.  Which I think do degrade game play but makes the game much more enjoyable because it remove all the cheaters.

Just ignore and report the botters.
