StarForge kickstarter at Indiegogo

Will have both singleplayer and multiplayer (mmo-like? Not sure)

Keep in mind, this is VERY early alpha. And I think the biggest problem (from what I can see in their video)...is animations suck. But early alpha is early alpha...

However, this game looks like the game I've been waiting for. The closest game to have done that is Shores of Hazeron (which is similar in some aspects). But not there.

Planet-side exploration and building, RTS elements, RPG elements, explore the vastness of space and land on all the planets/moons and build on each one. Just go read their description if you want a better idea :P

yeah ive seen this on greenlight, looks great some sort of crazy cross between minecraft and tribes

    its not a mmo though

    the animations are procedurally generated.

So on the one hand, they have that weird wobbly look

but on the otherhand it means they can do realistic physics with players getting thrown around and what have you

so im not sure they "suck", they do alot more than normal fps anmimations because well they arent animated its all calculated on the fly.

And to show it isn't a "scam" like that one guy said?Indiegogo as far as I'm aware is a trustworthy place, seen some big names talk about them.

I doubt a highend website would do a thing on it if it was a scam :P

Oh, was it on greenlight? I only heard about it through PCgamer and then saw it on Indiegogo (which I've seen once or twice before for a game or two). I'll have to look on Steam and check it out there as well.

Ah, so the animations...I guess that is why. It looks like a Gary's Mod kind of animation when the guy was on a rope on the vehicle, and that is/was just bad looking imo...but at least they can have realistic physics with it. Guess positive/negative. Probably have to get used to it.

yes its like how garys mod works, the animation is based on physics calculations not done using expensive mo cap - so on the one hand you get the slightly alien animations (which i dont mind in a scifi setting) but on the other hand you can see your arms and legs, when you get hit by a vehicle you really fly around like in a collison etc..

Next year is looking to be a good one :D Hasn't been many sci-fi sandbox games that are both singleplayer (most important to me to be honest) and multiplayer.

By chance, have you kickstarted starforge or any of the other ones you linked?

I know you can get into an alpha in starforge, they are doing a minecraft-like approach. But it is kind of bare bones now from what I read over on another game forum. But dunno, only one guy has replied. But it is early alpha, so hopefully it ends up being good. He said what is in the video, isn't actually in the game yet.

I'm in UK. I might get on elite 4 with it being on britstarter.

Starbound doesn't seem to be hunting funding, but then one of the devs is from terraria so maybe using some cash from that.

I'm into greenlight, but I'm annoyed it doesn't have a yes / no / possibly / yes and take my money option.

I'll definitely take a second look.  Can you link me to the features page.  The one I am looking at takes me to something different.

Well, the features they "plan" to put in is all on the Indiegogo page I linked. But very early alpha (it is very early), means...well...it is like any kickstart kind of thing. Paying in early, to mostly support the company and ideas behind the game, and hope that it turns out well.

Having said that...here are some links

    All features here

    http://www.indiegogo.com/starforge

    Main website (linked by Shaky)

    http://www.starforge.com/

and maybe the best place to see what the game is about, since it has a bunch of videos/screenshot. And the description

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=104660511&searchtext=

As of now, from what I heard...no space yet (but there are asteroids)...little crafting...the planet isn't finished. And there is no saving the game right now.  But that is just one guy, and he only played 5 minutes, most of his info was from the game forum. And not sure how long ago he played.

But I do have to urge the very early "alpha"...and that I don't expect people to throw money at their screen :P I'm mostly putting money in, cause I really like the "possibility" of where the game can go. That is really what kickstarters are.

I'll give it a shot.  If it is a sandbox type game, it will be worth it.

They added "goals" to their indiegogo page. Lots of them sound like they would be really good, only one I don't like as much (and that is just because I prefer ranged) is the melee one. All the others (to me) sound awesome though.

They hit their main goal of 75k. And I also donated last night, not much (since I'm dirt poor)...but it was something. Now to hopefully see some of their goals hit :D

So, an update. Earlier in the thread I said what is in the video isn't actually in-game.

What is seen in the video "should" be the full, phase 1 alpha release version that is going out after the Indiegogo is over. Right now there aren't any vehicles or much of anything, as it is just a test version. It is rather basic right now.

However, the devs have said that most (or hopefully) everything in the video, will be in the next phase of the game release. The release they have, is more of an engine demo than anything. Something to show that they actually have something, instead of just nothing.

StarForge hit 100k! That means liquid and lava...which the way they are going to do it, you can flood an area out and it will be dynamic. A bit like Minecraft, but water/lava will actually drain away. So more like Terraria in a way.
