EAware fooled me

And I was thinking I could go back to SWTOR and not pay a cent. I could buy back a few hotbars back with the cartel coins they are offering and maybe, just maybe have some fun or closure to my investment. Oh no, I failed to read the fine print with the F2P announcement and now it is staring at me with a hand extended, expecting more money.

You Can Earn Complimentary Cartel Coins!

All players with an active subscription at the launch of the Free-to-Play option will be granted Complimentary Cartel Coins!

It gives you a detailed list of all the Complimentary Cartel Coins you could potentially receive at the launch of the Free-to-Play option!

You’ll only receive your Complimentary Cartel Coins if you’re active and subscribed when we go live with the new Free-to-Play option.

I have to resub to get what I have "earned".

I have been played. And the sad thing is I'm slightly inclined to pay so I don't have to pay.

help me ._.

Im not understanding? How could you earn cartel points if you have not been subbed since the announcement was made?

You accumulate CC you COULD have with past paid subscriptions.

When the price for an account went from 60$ down to 15$ for a standard account those who payed full price should have gotten at least like 2 months free. I payed 60 and got the first month and no cartel pennys.

You should bEAware of Bioware and EA. All their F2P games  are P2W. Having no desire to come back even after game went F2P is great proof for me that TOR is still a 500mln $ garbage.

Ok. I have accumulated 450 cartle points during the period when I was NOT subscribed. I recently re-subbed and now they have given me an extra 200.

I'd contact EA about it if you didn't recieve any if you have been a past subscriber.

No, you don't get it. I have the cartel coins but only if I sub when it goes F2P do I actually get them. If I don't I get nothing.

Yep, Bioware even f**k up giving their game away, they have a perfect opportunity to entice back some of those who payed, played and left by offering them some essential free cost made up money, but they could not resist trying to stick their grubby hands into people's trouser pockets to rummage for some change.

Where does it say this though? At the bottom of the table listing what previous/current subbed players and new players it states:

"All players with an active subscription at the launch of the Free-to-Play option will be granted Complimentary Cartel Coins!"

That implies (well, to me anyway) that anyone with an active subscription will get extra Cartel Coins. I can't find anything that says you need to have an active subscription at the time of the F2P launch to claim the CC you already have accumulated.

EDIT: Actually, I think your right. Found the answer in FAQ page regarding the FTP transfer.

IF you want to play SWTOR then pay for a sub. Otherwise? Well, forget it and play something else. The game's entire F2P cash shop model is designed to push you into a subscription anyway and with a sub there is not much point to the coinage right now.

If you are GOING to pay for stuff, just give another month. if you have no intentions then just shy away and not bother. While not a glorious game, if you enjoyed it, why not resub for that month to get those cartel coins and you can get all the things you want and not pay a cent more after?

Welcome to the 2 tier community that is freemium. You asked for it ... you got it!

It could also be like Champions Online where you have to sub to play your actual fucking characters instead of template crap. Of course you should be expected to pay to play. Any company expects that but freemium and f2p only means that the game will eventually always only scale fully to those willing to now pay much much more than you simply did with a sub.

    You stay sassy!

Is current and previous players an ambiguous statement though?

To me that could come across as you have to be a current and a previous player to get the complimentary Cartel Coins. It doesn't state current or previous players. Also there is no list detailing what just previous subscribers get.

Heh. This about sums that up.

i tied it couple of days ago. Sad. After 1.4 lots of players experiencing massive fps drop no matter what setting they are running.   I am one of them. i cant play the game even on low settings. My fps is 7 drops to 0.3 if i start moving. they cant fix that. Can u imagine the number of bugs it will have in F2P.

Another thing that really bothers me is that they are using this scheme to prove to their investers as a way to say "See! our F2P model is a success because of xxxx players subscribed the very first day! It must be our awesome game they can't get enough of!" By participating I will feel more like a business statistic than a valued customer.
  • FrodoFraginsFrodoFragins Member EpicPosts: 5,903

They could simply reward all PAST and present players with free cartel coins based on their contribution.  Making them resub for the conversion isn't really much of a reward.

The first emails was sent by 9th Oct as seen by the thread EA must be getting desperate

They say if you sub now (as at 9th Oct), you will get those Cartel Coins, but what if someone did sub on 9th Oct, and now due for renewal. If they cancel their sub following that email will they get the CC or will they have to sub again?

And there is no issue here.

It only means that when the game goes F2P, you gotta have an active subscription. Which makes complete sense as accumulating cartel points pre-F2P is due making smooth transition of current subscribers for new payment model.

    Fail thread...

  • ArkudelArkudel Member UncommonPosts: 32

I'm still kind of upset about the tricky language they used to trick me into paying for the "free" month they offered six or seven months back, by making me think the time applied immediately and not after they charged me for the current month. Oh, that was good, kudos to them, but I'll yell from the mountaintops the unique type of douchebaggery with which they choose to engage; not to mention their snarky attitudes when I complained and asked -- politely at first, mind you -- for a refund.

Screw them, and don't put any faith or trust in them unless you're prepared to get bit.

People should still be able to claim the CC for collectors edition  and subs that have been already paid etc, but if you are not subbed now then you just do not get the extra 200 CC per month for being subbed into F2P,

    200 Complimentary Cartel Coins 4
Each paid month from August 1, 2012 to Free-to-Play option launch

That is what it should be, but to not get anything at all at launch of F2P for supporting the game in same manner during the year, is FAIL

Also they sent out emails on or before 9th October stating if you sub now you will get the CC, but now that it is not in this week, people will now have to sub twice, and not once to get them.

No, not really. Matter of opinion only and you will have hard time to justify your case.

You bought expensive box 8 months ago and played for 1 month? So what? No one cares.

It does not matter what you played/paid in the past. What matters is current subscribers and their transition under new payment model.

You just want a free cookie.

What is a fail imo is still no release date for F2P...

And this is where you and EA fails to form good relations with their customers. why they were voted worst company and why their stock is si low.

But, as you say - they dont care, all they care is 300-500m $ hole in their pocket and nickle and diming existing customers, which will drive even more people away.

For the record I should still be subbed when it goes F2P, as long as it is Nov 15th, so will get all 2200 CC

If people got the 200 CC per month for not subbing after 1st Aug, then yes that is a free cookiee

The way they are doing it just supports existing paying customers, and tells past customers to get lost and not bother with the game at all. If people do not want to sub, which EA have even noticed,  why should they lose out on CC that they earned from being supportive to EA at the beginning by paying a sub or buying the expensive collectors edition?

If it is only current subscribers that should benefit then should only offer CC for subs past Aug 1st.

Chances are that people may not return anyway, but the CC they did acquire would give them an incentive to. Now knowing that they do not qualify for any of it, unless pay $15 or $30 (depending when it goes live) will not give any incentive what so ever for people to return, espeially if some actually subbed when received the first email on 9th Oct and subbed then.
