While I believe the GW2 music is good, I will agree its not the most memorable. That has to definately go to Everquest. I wish I could find my old collectors edition cd soundtrack for EQ2 which is great but EQ1 still is the best.

GW2 has the same composer as GW1 - hence there is a link between the music. Jeremy Soule is the composer and has done the music for: GW1, GW2, Icewind Dale: Heart of WInter, and many many others - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Soule

I find the music wonderful and nice that in certain areas it hearkens back to GW1.

I have the music volume set to about half, or less, of what the other game volumes are.  It makes for good filler, but I don't really pay much attention to it.

Pretty much the same for me with any game.

You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Again, op ? we doing this again, its not even been 2 months, and after having your point totally anihilated in the previous thread you post exactly the same one ?, do you have a personal vendetta against Guild Wars 2 or Jeremy Soule  ?

As for a direct answer, again NO, you are wrong, GW2 music is better than 99% of all other game music, why ? because its Jeremy Soule who composed it, end of story, ...

When it needs to be forgettable it is, when it doesn't it isn't, your music tastes are yours, leave the rest of the world to enjoy their own music tastes please.

Ya I thought this was that other older thread. I added him to my block list. He's kinda odd redoing the same thread again. And. Yes Mr. Soule's backgournd music is very backgroundy. But the main themes are quality.

Haven't played LOTRO - but yes - the Age of Conan music is a triumph and very gripping no matter how many times you hear it.

    Why necro a dead thread?

The difference is that was before Guild Wars 2 was out and this is now after Guild Wars 2 is out. After every one has experienced the game with out the new game smell to hinder their opinions. Having a chance to play the game with the music going instead of sitting down and listening to it by itself.

Also if I did have a vendetta against Jeremy Soule. Why do I enjoy his work on the Guild Wars 1 track that was included in Guild Wars 2 and not his new Guild Wars 2 stuff? Your conclusion jumping is lacking in the logic department.

WoW had some really good and memorable tracks like:

    Elwynn Forest (Cataclysm version)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7p-hqRz7cw

    and
    Stormwind (Pre-Cataclysm version)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rXIyz8HSJQ

The way they are arranged. There is no forgetting them. It is isn't generic. It has a distinct theme that nearly any one can recognize.

Though there is only one track played in Guild Wars 2 that is legitimately not forgettable to me.

Guess what. It's a Guild Wars track that hasn't been altered in any way that is played in Guild Wars 2. This track was memorable in Guild Wars 1 and it is still memorable in Guild Wars 2. This track is creative and beautiful. The new tracks in Guild Wars 2 lack such a soothing and atmospheric melody this track has. If it wasn't for this one track, I would have muted Guild Wars 2 music a long time ago.

I agree that GW1 had a better soundtrack than GW2. But there were some gems, including the character select screen music and the end game song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOMQxVtbkik

They could probably up the tempo in the towns for sure.

Have to say I don't really pay much attention to music in MMOs. I usually have my Windows Media Player going and the music turned off. The only game I remember much music from was EverQueset. Mostly the loading screen when first logging in which was pretty damn good I thought. The best I've heard though, maybe not for quality but for other reasons, was the Kelethin music. I swear there is not a better sound than hearing that come on when you're lost wandering around Greater Faydark.

Played: EQ1 (10 Years), Guild Wars, Rift, TERA
Tried: EQ2, Vanguard, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Runes of Magic and countless others...
    Currently Playing: GW2

GW2 music is kind of hu-hum.  I am sitting here trying to think of one song, and I can't.  I even leave the music on while I play ..

I guess the GW2 music composers knew how to arrange notes in a way not to sound sour, they are "booksmart".  But the music completely lacks memorable and/or compassionate themes that might stimulate emotions and leave a lasting memory.

Maybe it's just me.  As for recent releases, SWTOR has far superior music (game is meh tho) compared to GW2.  Jazzy, futuristic, classical, .. not the music everyone knows the movies either .. the new stuff.

WoW has amazing music as well.  Powerful fantasy themes.

Srry but i strongly disagree with OP and here are my reasons:

    Fear not this Night: http://youtu.be/qOMQxVtbkik

    Charr Theme: http://youtu.be/T8_5SccCJEU

    Into the Dungeon: http://youtu.be/X2XB9d2cHVM

    Sylvari Theme: http://youtu.be/wGrzNSWTXsk

    Fields of Glory: http://youtu.be/aZChg66JCr4

And One of my Favourites, the last addition to the GW2 OST, The Halloween Theme:

    http://youtu.be/QW4DWizfMYA

At the end is all about tastes...but GW2 Soundtrack is pretty well done in my opinion & very catchy too!

    I love it.

There are many GW2 tracks that don't catch my attention while playing--which is usually my benchmark for a good game soundtrack--but then there are also several that do.  I definitely find myself humming and whistling along quite often overall.  That said, I've also taken advantage of GW2's ability to play your own playlists to certain situations.  I've found that doing this completely revitalizes the GW2 experience for a time.  I generally switch between my own playlists and GW2's actual music quite often.

Strange, because I find most of the music very forgettable, nothing special, and highly derivative.

played both of those nothing sticks out in my mind as I still remember many console games music from over a decade ago...

AOC for sure...  That and the graphics are untouchable by any other MMO. The music in AOC was unbelievable.

AoC and LotRO were both good, but not memorable for me.  No mmo music has been really memorable.

I like the score in GW2 and it is memorable mostly because I hear a lot of the GW1 music (or parts of it) in GW2.  The original stuff is good, but not more or less memorable than any other game.  I like the music for the ambience it provides a zone, not for listening to outside of the game.

Console game music is probably more deeply etched in my memory - FF7, ChronoCross, Metroid, Zelda, and Mario.

Quite the opposite.  It's unlikely I'd recognize music from those games if I listened to them.  Those are two games in which I generally mute the music and listen to the soundtracks to the films.  Basil Poledouris knocked the Conan soundtrack out of the park and gave us one of the best film soundtracks of all time.

SWTOR is mostly unmemorable except when they use/borrow from Williams directly.

I though WOW had some memorable music, especially in the Burning Crusade.

I find TV and Movie soundtracks to be FAR more memorable.  Some memorable TV soundtracks:

HBO's Rome, Deadwood and Carnivale - I listen to those a lot while working

    Dexter

    Farscape

Babylon 5 - getting really dated at this point though

The music is very good, and appropriate for Tyria's rich world. We must have different test in music.

Ironically, I was humming GW2 music when I saw this thread! Guess that says it all.
