GW2 is right up their when it comes to hacks and bots, it's a fact that even the avid fans can't deny.

I call it confirmation that GW2 and GW2 PvP are absolutely not worth my time.

Ironic statement considering all of the commercial bot programs available for GW2 written in Lua, started life in WOW, have been there for years, were adapted for Rift and are now being changed for GW2. But hey don't let me stop you from bashing GW2 irrationally. Ironic also that WOW and Rift are often mentioned as MMOs that really know how to detect bots.

There is no MMO more heavily botted, hacked and cheated in than WOW. But no one should be surprised by this considering their enormous player base.

These are not the easily-detectable home-brewed bottling hacks we have all seen and reported. These underground group of hackers--often the same people who will crack and release "warez"--are into mimicking realistic player behavior. They do things like auto-respond to says or tells. That player who just rezzed you and said "np" after you said "ty" could be a bot. They rezz, sell, add semi-random emotes and behavior. They scoff at the teleporting in a circle scripts used by the rangers and guardians we have all seen.

    Nothing new here.

Before i comment, let me say that i don't play GW2 but i do play WoW.

I think you made the point here that a lot of people i have seen post on this forum since the release of GW2 have made and that is that it isn't a new issue and it has been around for a long time, so why weren't they more prepared for it?

WoW did have a big problem with bots, but over the years Blizzard have done a lot to reduce the problem. Way back when, it wasn't uncommon to see bots running the circles in say Azshara to get the Felcloth drops, but that sort of open botting just doesn't seem to be occuring on that scale anymore. Can i say that botting has gone completely from the game, no, but it has drastically reduced and i think that is what annoys a lot of people over here, is that given all of that past experience from previous games, still, here we are again.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Sevreral weeks ago they stated that they had recently hired a new team of data specialists to help increase their bot detection abilities.  I find it disconcerting that they hired these people AFTER the game had already launched.  I don't expect any quick fixes.

The issue is that ArenaNet needs and automated detection system that works, and I'm not convinced that it's even possible to replace actual humans finding and removing these accounts.  However, if they were to divert the kind of money it would take to have an actual human staff doing this, we could say goodbye to all the new content they plan on bringing out over the next year.

So there's our choice - we wait for them to develop an reliable automated system or we see increased staffing costs for bot/hack removal and sacrifice dollars that would have been spent on more content.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

Well I don't really have anything to say about what Anet should have done proactively to prevent botting. That's just Monday morning quarterbacking. And yes, over the past 8+ years Blizzard has gotten rid of the majority of obvious bots... The ones that anyone can spot in 5 seconds. Over the past 2 months Anet has as well. As someone else said above, my server Jade Quarry, is almost totally free of those obvious bots now.

But the bots this article is talking about are the ones that are much more sophisticated and nearly impossible to detect. Some of which have live support (the subscription based one I won't name but is very easy to find by googling.) these are not the ones generally used by the pro gold farmers that swarm any new MMO like locust. These are used by the dedicated individual cheating hobbyists. They are a small minority of gamers who get off on cheating and hacking every game they touch and who think the rest of us who play them normally are rubes.

the referenced article, naive though its tone might have been, is about those hackers and cheats. One of the botting sites  referenced in the article (also easily found just by googling ) has dedicated sections for WOW, Rift, Swtor and GW2 is found under its "other" category...presumably GW2 doesn't rate it's own main heading yet. Not only are many different botting programs advertised and discussed there, they have separate "exploit" sections with private sub-forums for members only. The site is very active with thousands of threads and posts. Anyone can go there and read their public threads and se their reddit-like +rep system. It's educational to read some and get a feel for their attitudes.

I'm pretty sure the sophisticated bots do exist now and will be roaming in the future. However on my server Gunnar's Hold I see very same jhsadkklj 6+ bear rangers running in circles. To be honest each time I see more of them. Not even bothered to report them anymore. Bots are HUGE problem in GW2. Considering I spot 10-20 of them I one zone, I can only wonder how many are hidden in rarely visited spots and how many are simply well programed so I won't reckognize them by just passing by. Probably 100s of them in each map.

As much as I love GW2 and all the work put into it(including awesome halloween) they failed badly with bots/hacks.

There is nothing new to these type of Bots, and I have tested some similar to this I will not say which games but there has been three of them with similar bots and tools.

The most type of hack is memory hacking and the way the game is coded, these bots are totally destroying GW2, and unless something is done I ahve no plans of returning to GW2 in its current state.

I think the game needs to be wiped/reset to make this game fair again after banning all these botters.

I find memory hacking easy done in many games like DarkFall, Aion, GuildWars 2, The War Z, ROM, Memory hacking is basically the act of removing objects or editing the memory to resize granting the ability to walk under solid objects that would appear on another persons client but cause them not to be able to kill you for example. A lot of this I discovered due to memory glitches at times, and then did google search found the hacks.

Arena Net/NCsoft is stupid for not having detection for Teleport hacking.

Teleport hacking, and speed hacking reguardless of the hack is easily detectable server side, and could be patched so that anyone who has used the hack would be logged and a massive ban wave would go out to all accounts using the hack. If they tell you this is not possible then either the game company are iditos, or they just dont' care. ( These are hacks I would never use.)

Client side/Radar hacks are a lot more undetectable but I am sure changes could be made to make it harder for them to do. For example PVP knowing where your enemies are being able to see stealthed assassins/rogues where they are for example when they should be invisible, these are hacks that really destroy a games PVP but people are using them.

Bottom line is that  GW2 has been destroyed, the only way to fix the game is to well wipe the economy all materials or something to fix it unless you can determine every botter cheating to gain unfair advantage and terminate their accounts resulting in a better economy and fair game play.

Besides botters the reason I quit GW2 is due to their customization.

.Lack of Recustomize character for FREE. ( Basic recustomize should be FREE.) Aka when you purchased your game.) Additional costumes/packs should cost.

. Lack of ability to use costumes without being in towns.

. The way the costume system requires Transmute stones/Real Money if you dont have in game money. ( This should work like in Runes OF Magic, and Rift, not like Aion and Korean based MMO's like this that are just hogging money from its consumers constantly.

. Leather armor on Female Norn's look like CRAP, get us better looking Leather armors already.

Aerowyn is a Arena Net developer for GW2. Don't you think he would know more about which Hacks are real or fake than you do?

I'm sure there's advanced bots in GW2 that allow people to get money, fly, teleport and excel in PvP, but those are also in Rift and WoW as well, very few but they are there.

Actually it only took me 10 minutes to find botting sites and videos displaying infinite health, super jump and flying abilities in GW2.

You see, in City of Heroes, we would of all just called this a /Regen Scrapper with all the travel pools.

Ah man, bots have it good, they're really living the life.

Go to Google and type in GW2 bot program. Most are articles. 2-3 are bot software/scripts. Change the word  'bot' to 'dupe' or 'dupe item' and what MOSTLY comes up are GW (not GW2) duplicating program references. A bit down the list SQUID or SQUIDDEE (or some such name) boasts of having a duplication program ready to go shortly for GW2.

A month or so back when the gold farming botsseemed to be on a bit of a decline, the warpers were becoming rampantly obvious. I saw so many of them collecting nodes and appearing to be  real players (based on chats in map then seeing them moving warping around) that I was curious as to how/why.

My exhaustive 10 second search on Google found the same ones everyone finds at the top of the list.

    *shrug*

What is even more sad than the fact of the bots is when people fanboi up and deny the crap is out there. It is and it is being used. Whether there is an actual item duplication script waiting to go, I do not know nor do I care other than the usage of which will help kick the genre in the groin yet again, if it is actually coming.

I am done with GW2. I enjoyed my time playing it over the last  wow...2 months. More than I have gotten from some. Less than I had hoped for GW2. *shrug* Maybe I'll log in for a bit in a month or two, maybe not.

Yeh fanbois are not doing this game any good, doesnt help the players and it dosnt help the developers, everything is all rosy and nothing is wrong.  Constructive critism helps everyone, denial of anything that is broken does not help anyone.

Operation Scamming would be hackers 3b initiated

    1 - Advertise a very wanted Hack

2 - Create a website full of "traps"

3 - Steal tons of accounts of the would be hackers

4 - Use the stolen accounts to farm gold with more advanced bots program

5 - Sell gold for money with litle risks, the accounts stolen were from legits players

    Well played Sir.

Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you but in my server there is a very obvious and noticeable decline. I've been leveling a Human Thief alt recently and when I went through Kesex Hills, that brifge under repair that has the centaur DE which used to be unplayable for severasl weeks due to the huge number of bots is now 100% bot-free.

Everyone there now does that DE, moves down to the centaur camp with the ballista to do the 4 lieutenant DE and then down further to the cave for the champion centaur one. In other words, still being farmed but now it's people actively doing it.

I don't know about your server but JQ used to have one of, if not the worst bot-pack problems with those same rangers and guardians with alphabet names. The change in the past 2 weeks is significant and obvious. I'm sure they're still around somewhere but before I could not go anywhere without spotting them now I haven't seen a single one in quite a while.

And... I haven't played WOW since a few months after the Cataclysm launch but I used to see them there occasionally too. But my server was one of the better ones since it was both, a PVP and RP server where we tended to get the more dedicated players... plus we helped out with some vigilante justice. That's the one reason I wish we had PVP servers in GW2.
