Infinite Game Publishing and Piranha Games have announced that Founder's Program for MechWarrior Online has generated over $5M in pre-order sales. The team also reiterated that the open beta for MechWarrior Online will begin soon.
Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, lauded the program’s success, “Working together with IGP, we maximized the value for fans participating in the MechWarrior Online Founder’s Program by offering three tiers to suit different player’s needs. Ultimately the program was a categorical success and we couldn’t be happier with the sales and important player feedback we’ve received.”

I think this is intentionally misleading.
In the financial world, 5m = 5 thousand. 5mm = 5 million.
5 million is not really a difficult target to raise, technically.
Especially with the Battletech franchise - how long have their fans been starving for another game and how big their fanbase was to start with.
Battletech universe has always been a great source of revenue. Just don't understand why the game (or even the materials itself) keeps on changing publishers. Maybe it has something to do with the ongoing troubles with legal issues with Macross franchise.
5 million selling founders packs? no.
5 thousand selling founders packs? More likely.
And like I said, in the financial world, 5m means 5 thousand.
5mm means 5 million.
Mechwarrior Online is really fun though. Open beta will be fun.
This would seem to be the breakdown based on the stats on the forums

Not using US dollars. Our standard is K for thousand and M for million. True story.
