Anyone else think this person never even played?

Well I know one thing, that person has not tried many MMO's released in the last couple years.

Or maybe he just expected more from GW2 than he got in comparison to the other mmos and as such his disappointment was greater.

While if those who plan on still playing the game this time next year make it, 900k players is pretty good in this day and age. It's a drastic change from the pre-launch hype though. To be put it frank 50% of the people think the game stinks, as in not worth playing.

Looking at this, I see GW2 being around 600k active users by this time next year.

What results did you read? The ones I saw had almost 50% planning on playing over a year. And that was with 463 votes. The already quit answer was around 26%.

41% have stopped playing, or play only when bored. 6% more think they will hang around another month or so. 5% plan on  playing 6 months to a year(4 more months) with 48% plan to play more than a year.

So about 50% of the people think the game stinks, unless they like playing mmos for 3 months or less.

Sorry for rounding the poll up. It's 475 now btw.

I wonder how many people will never see or vote in your poll because they're, like, busy playing?

I stopped playing after 2 or 3 weeks.  Very tedious, soulless game.

The player retention for GW2 has been just as bad an just about any other recent game.

F2P games are "proven" bad if they don't hold a player's interest long term.  B2P (with cash shop) is no different.  It's possible to stop a sub and "go back" whenever a player wants as well.

Player longevity has long been a litmus test for whether a game is "good" or "bad".  In those terms, GW2 is just as bad as any other recent game, with poor longevity.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

The vast majority of servers still showing full to high populations, the overflows, densely populated starter areas and queues into WvW all seem to indicate that you're making crap up.

How do you know what the player retention is? I don't find the game soulless at all. Your opinion though.

GW1 still has players and it was B2P also. Please, using sweeping conclusions are always proved wrong as there is always exceptions.

The game has been out over a month - how can we talk about longevity? Don't we  need to play for years?

Bored by level 25 and moved on. I haven't logged on in a couple of weeks and even then only managed to play for a half of an hour or so.

GW2 is the most boring MMO I have ever payed for, if it was P2P I would of canceled the sub within a week after launch.

But... this thread is pretty useless. You either love it or hate it - as the polls shows, reading a few of the threads dedicated to GW2 would show you the same results.

I'm not sure how experienced you are, but I think your just spoiled. This game has many very good aspects. Mostly it sounds like you need an upgrade on your computer. I love WvW and am not getting the issues you describe. Mostly I think you need to join a big, well organized WvW guild and find out what it's really about.

This game is fantastic, and for a "f2p" model, damn good. At least you don't get the ridiculous issues that other, just released, MMO's have. The servers are almost always up and running and they have a good overflow management system. The story keeps me engaged, and there's plenty to do. You want to be hardcore? Go play something suited to your style. Don't blame the game.

No, Borderlands 2 has destroyed all desire I have to play anything else. I know it will end, eventually, but for now, this is the most "addicted" I've been since Diablo 2.

I need to finish some things up in WoW before my sub expires, but I just can't. The bandits are calling; they want me to shoot them and take their guns. I'll oblige.

No, I didn't even see myself playing 2 weeks out of launch. Its nothing special in my opinion and was completely overhyped. Its the same grinding quest game they said it wasn't going to be... actually its worse. At least in your traditional WoW styled questing you're guided... in this one you just go around the map for hours hunting for events to be able to do 5-10 minutes of your story then having to gain another 3+ levels.

PVP is... well dumb. I do not like scaled form of PVP and wish they'd also bring along a non scaled version of it. Sure you could say WvWvW for gear... but you're still scaled to lvl 80.

You really want to be led by the nose from hub to hub.  I thought most people were sick of this style of play?  It's not the be all end all (shallow Themepark after all) but complaining that it doesn't force you down a linear path enough is a criticism I never thought I would hear about this game or any game really.

As I said before, the most fantastic game in the world could be released and many people here would complain becuase it is not what they wanted. Is GW2 perfect? No way but it has an interesting design and story IF you give it a chance. The exploration is quite fun. GW2 yes can be played by casual players but does that mean that hardcore gamers are excluded - No it doesn't. It does seem that people either want a hardcore game (like EVE) or a casual game (like GW1) but nothing to cover both. That is ridiculous.

I've been playing since release and *still* feel I have more ahead of me to do than behind me. We're really enjoying it.

No end game content? That's completely inaccurate - if you've arrived at this conclusion you're grossly misinformed, there's a crap ton of stuff to work on after your characters hit 80, to claim otherwise is really absurd. It may not be goals you're personally interested in, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

The other part thats a bit biased - unplayable WvW? BS. Get a better PC? My wife & I play on max settings and have never - ever- had any negative experiences in WvW caused by 'lag' or performance. If you're seriously lagging that badly, consider your carrier more closely, or upgrade. I can assure you some of us simply aren't having the issues you are - can't *really* blame the game for that I'm afraid.

My prediction? You're not some one I'd go to for advice if you've seriously concluded this game will 'be dead by christmas'.

I guess the vote results speak volumes though.

The expansion and the updates are what I'm looking forward to. Halloween event is coming, and I can't wait what ANet has to offer. As of now, I'm still hooked even with an 80. There's more stuff that I need to do: dungeons, exploration, PvP, WvWvW. It's too much if you ask me.

After being gouged to death by the poor practices concerning content by companies like Blizzard, I've definitely found my new home here at GW2.

No other company so far has put so much time and effort into their game to make it such a nice play experience.

No other company has made it so that the game can be quickly and easily updated, patched, and painlessly reset.

No other company has gone out of their way to give their game the best solutions to every major issue any mmo player has had in the past.

Integrity goes a long way in my book.

    Yes, yes and more yes.

If I ever get bored, I will play another game for a bit and come back when there is new content.

That is the beauty of a subscriptionless MMO.

Since when is Tuesday a direction?

Speaking in absolutes makes for great entertainment.

You have that kind of list laying around?  Then again, you do look kind of bored.  If making lists and then looking at them years later makes for great entertainment, I can only hope you find a game that entices you.  Say... Minesweeper.

I was probably playing GW2 when the picture was taken.

That's the biggest innovation GW2 brought to the genre. It needs tweeks, but it is defintley a positive, and hopefully it will be part of any sever model going forward.

To some extent yes. I do not like the system of GW2 at all. It's horrible in my opinion. Do I like the freedom? Yes. However it will implemented so poorly. Having to spend hours and hours roaming the map looking for events to lvl up (farming the same ones often times) becomes boring as hell. So after my hours of farming same events, being an escort everywhere, killing x of x coming at me... its just nothing new.

Guild Wars 2 was advertised to put an end to the common MMO, but this is nothing different beyond being more annoying. I still am sent to kill x of x and gather x of x like every other game, just in a more annoying manner.

Judging by your response I can tell you're a person who has been the victim of many better geared or higher level players owning you. Me... I enjoy it. It gives me something to strive for. Right now there is no differences, we're all the same. There is no incentive for me to want to play through any hardship to work to equal or better groups. I'm just... given that ground.

Sorry that I enjoyed outplaying someone with better gear or enjoyed having to progress and work for my gear.. not be given the same stuff as joesmoe who just is playing for the first time.
