    Ah yes - Tarren Mill.

1 frame per minute and pointless zerging.

You are right only insofar as you cannot compare the two in terms of which was best - you just got it the wrong way round....

Don't get me wrong, i greatly enjoy guildwars 2, and I'm absolutely sick and tired of WoW.

That said, i still think i enjoyed Vanilla WoW more back when i first got it, guild wars seems very limited in what you're able to do.. I just grind heartquests or WvW, and then at 80 maybe do some dungeons, and i really don't like them in GW2, they're just a massive pain.

Also WvW is amazing, I'm hooked to it, and love the WvW guild I'm in and siege equipment and more, god WvW rocks, still enjoyed big scale pvp events on my RPPvP Wow server more though.

WvW will always just be the same static map, I'll never be able to go outside that area, and once you get used to WvW the map really doesn't seem that big anymore, i also think it was fun to have a horde of lower levels taking down a few higher levels, It just provides much more of a rush to me then WvW ever will.

Well.. okay.. That time we took out an entire giant zerg rush with A treb and 2 ballistas with 3 people was pretty darn cool..

    +1

Where this is even coming from?

Ok those themeparks were diffrent more freeroaming but still themeparks.

Themepark didn't start getting used until WoW came along. DAoC and EQ were far more like sandboxes than they were modern day themeparks. DAoC especially.

Think "less streamlined and less directed themeparks with virtual world design elements" would be more fitting desciption. Would not stretch to use "sandbox" to describe them.

btw. I think themepark was first used with EQ - it just was not as commonly used term as today.  Sandbox was not as commonly used as well.

My only real problem with GW2 has been too many new good games overload. The good thing, though, is there is no sub fee so I don't feel bad about coming and going as I please.

i dont know which mmo coined "themepark"  but here's Garriott talking about the term 10 years ago

    interview from E3 2002

    http://www.gamesfirst.com/articles/aaron/garriott/garriott1.htm

GF!: What about how the game plays? What can you tell me about that?

Garriott: Game play dynamic. Well, one of the great things about solo player games is that you get to be the hero that saves the world. Every door you unlock, every feature you see, you experience it special as if you’re the first and only person who’s ever seen it…because you’re blissfully unaware of your next-door neighbor who’s playing the same game. The wonderful thing about an MMP is that you don’t have to go alone. You can actually go with your friends, which everyone has always wanted to do. The problem is that you can never get rid of everybody. Everybody is with you all the time, and so you go into a dungeon and people are qued up to kill the troll king and you just wait your turn. We’ve seen other people try to fix that, like Anarchy Online with their pocket spaces of your own completion area of the quest. I’ve heard World of Warcraft is doing sort of the same thing with solo player areas, but in my mind we’re actually doing something much more fundamental than that, which is that instead of creating this giant virtual world where -- though it’s cool to go, "Hey, our world is five square miles." -- it’s not much fun to get to your friend if you were to come online at different times and different places. We actually believe that the best games will be organized much more like a theme park.

In Disney World, if you think of the main area as the massively multiplayer space, where it’s very easy to find each other or get from one fun activity, called a ride, to another fun activity, and even if you’re on opposite sides of the park, you can get there quite expediently either by walking, or using the train, or in our case teleporters even to make it faster. But when you go on a ride at Disney World, like Pirates of the Caribbean, when you get on a boat, you become blissfully unaware of the other people on the other boats. You can still see them, and you occasionally bump into them, but if it were an instantiated activity, you wouldn’t, and if the Pirates of the Caribbean were a pirate battle instead of a passive boat ride, you could imagine that here we have a quite contained hub world where you go from one fun activity, you come back and say, "Haha, we had a great time on that ride. Let’s re-equip ourselves and see what else we want to do." You want a thirty-minute, short combat adventure, that’s over here. You want a four-hour quest of the avatar scenario that’s very intricate and complex because you’ve set aside time for tonight, then that’s over here. You want to go out and do the red vs. blue, Unreal style tournament battles, well those take place over here, but all of those activities will take place in close corridors. Even if you go, "Hey, you know what I really want to do is explore the Himalayas just aimlessly", you can do that, but it’s reachable from the main game, if you follow my drift. Which is not to say that we’re creating a theme park, because this isn’t a theme park, it is a virtual world, it’s just organized in such a way that makes commuting not a pain. So we think that will provide both the best aspects of the massively multiplayer – ownership of territories, variety of roles that you can play, not just the traditional roles of just combat, which are part of the great aspects of MMPs. But also the great aspects of solo player games, where if you go on the four-hour quest of the avatar style adventure – you get a very scripted event where every lock you unlock, you and your party will feel is special for you. And you’ll achieve greatness. You will be the avatar. It’ll be as if you are the one group that has achieved this, as your blissfully unaware of the other groups in separate instances.

Nah, he had it right. You might have needed to upgrade the calculator you were playing on back then. OWPvP in vanilla WoW > WvW any day.....

DAOC had a WvWvW zone and OW pvp, beat that world of cartooncraft. WOW should never be used when comparing PvP elements of a game.

    Even more.

Its better then expected in some ways.

Because the game has something for every of my gaming moods.

And i am not alone with this, beleive me, over half my guild fully agrees, while only very few had a hard time understanding that the game is different and requires a different approach to have fun...

WvWvW queues prove that the game is still as popular as ever, and the population in PvE has spread over  level 1 to 80, so almost no more overflow servers (tough i had one in Queensdale yesterday afternoon.

The game is doing great and many people are having lots of fun.. Now its up to Anet to hurry the repairs, do the ballancing, and add more content.

I am still wayting on the mobile device access and most of the promissed minigames.  I hope to see the first new added content inside the 3 months after release mark.

The game is still a blast to play, every day,  for Explorers like me... Its the ultimate exploration game, Killers and socialisers will be happy too. And i predicted long time ago that acheivers will not like the game to much, and not for a very long periode of time.  But then whome ever listens to my ramblings.

It's good to see a strong positive thread in the sea of negativity. The game is far from perfect, yet it's still among the best new MMOs on offer and easily the best F2P one. I was really hesitant to throw my 60 dollars away
at first but I have no regrets, currently have a level 47 ranger. What I love most is emphasis on exploration too and actually levelling wherever you want almost.

I play with my level 30 partner and I love feeling unrestricted and having no level gaps to worry about. I'm still rewarded.
I find myself approaching this game differently too. I play much less then any other MMO because there's no pressure with subscriptions. You actually play to have fun, not to get your month's worth. It's a shame the persoal stories are weak but ah well.

I can see where non-explorer types might struggle with this game though, with the lack of traditional gear grind for better stats. All I can say is, if this is the way you genuinely have fun you have dozens of other MMOs to choose ;)

Anyway, I wouldn't go as far as saying its the most mind blowing MMORPG in existence, but its an impressive one and a posititve step in the right direction for the genre and I encourage hesitant players to try it out.
no sub fee, so why not?
