The Repopulation: September Progress Report Released

The Repopulation's site has been updated with the latest progress report from the development team. Highlights of the month include the instanced housing system, a new auto-group function, personalized loot system and a customizable camera system.

Perhaps the biggest news of the month is the introduction of the instanced housing system. While we envision the world based city system and nation vs. nation warfare to be a major part of The Repopulation, we also need to look out for the solo players who do not have a nation, or those who are PvP phobic. Enter the instanced housing system. Where we had originally planned for instanced housing to take place in personal apartment rooms, we've extended that system to support new instanced outdoor areas. You will be able to view the homes of other players, on their own plots within the housing area. You will also have access to a reduced toolset of the nation city system which allows you to purchase plots, place buildings and decorate them with furniture. Today's alpha patch offers the first phase of support for this feature, which will continue to be improved upon next month.

I wish the player housing wasn't instanced.   When I think of housing, there are two types that I think about.  The first is SWG and noninstanced housing and cities.  Second is LOTRO in which housing was instanced.

In SWG, housing became integral to the social experience.  I built my house in town and would have friends over.  From my balcony, I could see the cantina and the shuttle port and watch people as they came and went.  There was a feeling of being in a living world.

In LOTRO, it felt like a ghost town.  There was no life, and plots were predetermined.  My interest quickly waned as housing was not a social area to interact, but rather extended storage.

The other things sound okay though.  I'm still looking forward to trying the game.

Really excited for this game...hope it delivers...I do agree that instanced housing isn't preferred, but think of how many themeparks that leave it out altogether....i think if they would include crafting nodes and some other mini-games in the instanced area, it would have a good population in it....
