Still the best thing since vanilla WoW

Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

I am still having a blast,

Its the best 50 Euros i spend in my life,

For me the game is exactly what i expected it to be,

Even more.

Its better then expected in some ways.

Because the game has something for every of my gaming moods.

And i am not alone with this, beleive me, over half my guild fully agrees, while only very few had a hard time understanding that the game is different and requires a different approach to have fun...

WvWvW queues prove that the game is still as popular as ever, and the population in PvE has spread over  level 1 to 80, so almost no more overflow servers (tough i had one in Queensdale yesterday afternoon.

The game is doing great and many people are having lots of fun.. Now its up to Anet to hurry the repairs, do the ballancing, and add more content.

I am still wayting on the mobile device access and most of the promissed minigames.  I hope to see the first new added content inside the 3 months after release mark.

The game is still a blast to play, every day,  for Explorers like me... Its the ultimate exploration game, Killers and socialisers will be happy too. And i predicted long time ago that acheivers will not like the game to much, and not for a very long periode of time.  But then whome ever listens to my ramblings.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Besides that what many around here fail to understand is that there is a whole spvp scene that is going strong.

Nothing in WvW remotely compares to the simple joy of tarren mill vs southshore, or any of the other towns that we would lay waste to in vanilla WoW.

    Kudos to you.

I was never a real fan of WoW in any form, so I can't really relate.

OP I played wow f from release till near lich kings release..This is the first themepark game since I first played wow to give me the same feeling of excitement and adventure... I had that feeling with EQ,AC and others but since wow have not.. kudos to anet for restoring my interest and enjoyment in themeparks once again

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

    OT, so my apologies....

I think this may be one of the underlying reasons for our inability to meet head to head on GW2.  I was never a big WoW fan, whereas you played it for years.  So maybe a lot of your appreciation for GW2 stems from some of this WoW investment?

OP I would have expected a post like this from someone who started gaming with WoW, not an MMO veteran. Your standards are way too low, sir. How can you even like the PvP in this game after having played DAOC?

Mate after EQ and DAoC, WoW was actually the last MO i toroughly enjoyed.

Thats why is take WoW as a refference, since everything after that was below standards, on top of that everyone knows WoW and its a good reference to make your comparicing  statements.

Never expected GW2 PvP to be on the same level as DAoC, and if you search back in my posts, you can see some pre release comments on this. GW2 is far from a holy grail, but the best game i have played in a very very long time.

GW2 gives me back what i missed since EQ, and made exploring fun and exciting again.  On top of that it has some great PvP and i expect it to only improve more and more in the future, dont you remember what DAoC was without realmpoints and Darkness falls?

perhaps....for me the main issues I have with most themeparks is they design the entire questing experience around the individual.. Quest hubs completely take away from a living world feel..To me how the DE system is put together it could use some improvements but to me completely changes how the world feels. Another big one for me is npc interaction.. swtor had the most lifeless and dull feeling towns I have ever played in an mmo.. I never played a mmo where I enjoyed exploring just the cities as much as gw2.. all in all these two things are huge in my book of how a game feels when playing...

    Love this game to pieces.
The game mechanics appear to he deceptively simple but so far it really is the best system among the MMOs I have played =]

    Yeah,i lol at that myself.

ArenaNet would of got a +1 of me if they actually released with a Darkness Falls type dungeon.Oh, i think the op actually played daoc.

WvW and pvp balance in general are vastly superior to DAOC's. no discussion really.

Well, I remember DaoC PvP being a lot of fun, but this is too.. and DaoC didn't have concepts like supply and the range of interesting siege weapons and 'actiony' combat.  I don't know, but it seems to me that it's a case of nostalgia for DaoC that makes us think it was better..   maybe I'm wrong and I'd like to hear more about how DaoC was better...  but the only thing I can think of is the total darkness and lack of a mini-map.  Darkness Falls was a blast also.  Did we all really enjoy the very lengthy journey back to the front line if you got killed?

All I know is that I have enjoyed some of the WvWvW as much as I did sieges in DaoC as far as I can tell.

    Rvr was better than WvW
    So was planetside

But gw2 has the best mass pvp of the last decade, dumps all over the timed BS in wow, aion, wars loads of disjointed mini lakes, tsws fusang and lol - illum

The best thing since Anarchy Online for me. I do miss some features from GW1 (guild halls, more types of PvP), but hopefully they'll be added soon enough.

same feeling as OP. ive been waiting for gw2 for 4 years, and it met all expectations. hasnt let me down in any way, and it's goin strong.

    I agree with the OP.

First time since Vanilla WoW I have felt this way... and not had that feeling rapidly and tragically vanish after a couple of weeks.

WAR, TR, EvE, Rift, TOR... burned brightly and snuffed out quickly.

I think I measured my expectations greatly for GW2 after being really "burned" by TOR.

Some who think me a fanboi may call BS and doubt my excitement for GW2 has been tempered in comparison, but I digress.

Perhaps it is because my play style / life style has changed dramatically in the past year, but I am still very much in love with the game play GW2 is giving me and can't get enough of it!

Not having a subscription has really changed things for me. I've been playing exclussively subscription based MMOs since 1999 and now playing GW2 just feels so refreshing to not feel "preasured" if that makes sense?

Oh and I reckon arenanets take on df us a shoe in for the 1st expansion.

I mean between them arenanet and bethseda have most of the actual talent from mythic. It's just the marketing drones and the interns left at ea.

Why would achievers not like the game? The list of achievements is impressive and has enough things to keep completionists busy for a long time. Still working on 100% world completion and the story isn't even over yet, think I'm at the level 78 part now. All the hidden areas to be explored, and a neat little list of all the things you did or didn't do yet. :)

    Joey:

A certain type of acheiver won't like the game.

Those that like to get all elitist going "sorry your gear scores not good enough"

Those who get off on raid guild power politics

Those who like to prove how "goode" they are at pvp by grinding / afking / botting their way to the best gear so they can 1 shot "noobs"

Or that they didn't plan their RvR very well. DAoC never had, nor needed any queues :P

But yeah, it's probably the best themepark since DAoC/EverQuest (WoW was an awful game). But I'm not sure if its PvE is better than Vanguard's yet. And its PvP does NOT beat DAoC or Darkfall yet.
