The badges drop rate used to be worse than it is today, rougly 1 badge per 10 kills. About the time the new WoW expansion launched, the drop rate pretty much doubled, to a still measly 1 badge per 5 kills.
Other sources of badges, not related to player kills are:
4-5 per day from the 3 borderlands jumping puzzles
5-7 per day from the eternal battleground jumping puzzle
1-2 sometimes from commanders in supply camps, towers and keeps if you do the majority of damage.
4-5 from the ancient tree world boss in eternal battlegrounds.

By the time I complete that jumping puzzle I'm about 100 years old. I suck at those things.
Haha, then you've never seen arrowcarts being build there to stop people in the arena section or trebuchets firing at the spawn point and other extravagant ways to grief people, like building a balista just outside the waterfall entrance.
