Favorite classes after a month ?

As a admitted altaholic I have a Mesmer, Guardian, Elementalist, Ranger and Thief. The Elementalist is in his 60's the rest are 20 - 30. I ranked them in the order I enjoy them. The  Mesmer rocks, , the Guardian is bullet proof and almost too easy, the elementalist is fun but fragile and I just can't seem to get into the groove with the ranger or thief. Played the ranger for a couple of levels this morning and maybe cause I was running on cruise control and mowing through Veterans and their adds with the guardian yesterday the ranger seemed to be a wuss compared to the other classes. Feel the same about the thief, he seems fragile and low DPS in his low 20's. I will tweak weapons and skills this evening and see if I can't get him going. That's half the fun of GW2 , you can tweak the play style of the class to suit you.

SO how does your pre release expectations of your toons line up with how they are playing. The mesmer was my pre release choice and has exceeded my expectations. Other classes fell short and the guardian is more fun than what I thought it would be

I'm enjoying leveling my new Monk at the moment.

    Joking aside,

I do like GW2's class design. I like the Guardian.

I like necro since it is my main, but it is full of bugs (137 before last patch, now 87... link: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/professions/necromancer/Think-we-got-some-fixes/250419) and it is a chore to play compared to some other classes imo. I will be shelving him at 80 I think unfortunately because a lot of stuff doesn't work at all or doesn't work very well.

Lately I have been into guardian and mesmer, which is resulting in a lot less hair pulling.

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.

To me the guardian is probably the easiest class. Remionds me of a battle mage or paladin class. Got a scepter/torch and a greatsword and can mow down anything his level other than a champ. A equal level veteran and 2 adds is needed to a challange solo. looked around last night after one long fight and found 5 or 6 equal level mobs a sparkeling away. Came close a couple of times in that fight to dieing, don't know how many mobs I killed in total.

Mesmer is almost as deadly but less forgiving. One slip and he is toast, a true glass cannon. I want to try  necro and engineer later on

Oh and lets try and keep the trolling from both sides to a minimum

I have engineer in mid 40s, warrior and ranger in the 20s and a thief in the teens.

Engineer is my favorite hands down!  The class has the most variety.  You can be ranged, melee, bomb/grenade specialist, group utility with med kit and elixir gun.  If you specialize in condition damage you can neutralize 4-5 mobs at a time.   There are a million different ways to play an engineer.  You're only limited by your imagination.

Warrior is great for the sheer variety of weapons you can use, however, I am not a fan of the banners.

Ranger is disapointing because it's too straight forward and an essential clone of GW1.  Though i'm going to give it more chance.  I just hate pet classes.

Thief is A LOT of fun.

Next up, is going mesmer or guardian.  I hear great things about guardians and mesmers are under played.  The one consistent class that kicked my ass was mesmer in SPVP.  Those clones are hard to deal with.  You are slowly killed based simply on the fact that you don't know who to attack.

After trying them all my favorite classes are as follows. Guardian, Thief, Engineer, Elementalist.

I actually made it the farthest in game with a warrior but in the end, I found them so similar to warriors from other games that I knew I had to roll a gaurdian instead.

For pve Ranger has been most enjoyable and for sPVP mesmer...still need more playtime with engineer and guardian though

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Yeah. Baby steps.I'll take it in increments. Start small and get more grown up as I go. So, I went from My little Pony to Monks. Next, I'll try Rift's new expansion.

Gotta love this stuff.  A "Candyland" player throwing rocks at someone playing "Pandyland" over which is more mature. Nice.

I started Headstart on a ranger and a warrior.  Got both into their 30s and then tried other classes.  I am currently loving the thief and Mesmer, which I found both to be both fun to play and nearly indestructible.

I haven't played anything but my Necro yet since release.  I have a Warrior made up and will soon make a Thief.  Since I haven't spent much time outside of the BWEs playing the second two, I'll break them down based on my experiences so far.

Necro is my favorite.  I was a little worried at first about it because I didn't like it as much as the other two in the early stages.  Now I'm a lvl 46 and I'm loving it.  I usually wield dual daggers and back that up with a scepter and focus.  Every once in a while I'll use a staff depending on the situation.

My second favorite is Warrior.  I usually don't like warriors because I usually don't like tanking....I tend to find it a little boring always being melee.  With the mix of ranged and melee they've made the GW2 Warrior, I had a surprisingly great time playing it in BWE3.  Maybe it helped it was an Asura Warrior and that just makes me lol.

Finally, the Thief.  I played one for BWEs 1 & 2 and had a great time with it, though not as much fun as the Warrior, and eventually the Necro.  I still like the mechanics of it (again using a mix of range and melee) but it is a bit squishier than the Warrior.

My wife and kids play Ele (wife), Mesmer and Ranger.  They all look ok but not as fun as the other 3.  The Engineer doesn't really do much for me.

You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

    Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!

  • BjelarBjelar RullumpPosts: 384Member

My ele is fun to play with two daggers. Rush in, burst-burst-burst massive dmg and then kite Forrest, kite, and hope to live to tell the tale.

Guardian was almost bad enough to make me uninstall GW2. I attacked a large group of foes, went and got myself a cup of coffee and when I returned I was victorious. Who plays that s*i*t*. Blind infants? I'm an old man, and guardians are too easy. Youths of today should feel ashamed of themselves for playing guardian :)

This is so hard to boil down...Ive mainly played Ele, Thief and Mesmer. Started trying Necro this week. Man I love them all so far but if I had to pick it would be Ele for pve and Mesmer for pvp so far.

Still loving my thief. I'm not much of an alt guy so. But the thief is a lot of fun. Love the mobility, bleeds, stealth, stealing, leaping, its all fun for me. But in order to really enjoy the thief i think you need a gaming mouse. Having my multi button mouse allows me to react and move my toon fast and furious.

I met an engineer in PvP and thought I could easily one on one him. There was no way. He did not deal a lot of damage, I did, but somehow he could CC me and heal like superman and he embarresed me to the point I started looking for bridges I could jump off. I have an eng alt I am looking forward to play.

    In my humble opinion,....

GW2 classes have more variety in a single class than some other games have between classes.

Engineers are amazing 1v1 except against mesmers.

I have only played my Necro thus far.

I love the class overall but there are some challenges and situations I am still trying to figure out.

As an example I tend to use a couple of minions for the most part but the Flesh Golum has the tendancy to just go attack anything and everything.

I am also finally finding a real use for weapon switching and the use of Death Shroud now as I am approaching level 55. Until recently there were few times where I really needed to do much weapon swaping but lately the need has increased.

The only major bug I have encounted in the game so far was a Trading Post error. I put a rare sword up for sale and I recieved an error regarding the transaction. It did not cost me anything, I thought I might have lost the weapon but my money was awaiting me a day or two later without an issue.

Overall, I am just enjoying the casual but challenging nature of the game. I like the fact that I can't just mindlessly wander into anything a be saved by my gear or level. I have to be paying attention.

I am looking forward to some future characters but for the time being this one is fullfilling all of my requirements.

All of the classes are pretty "meh" at best. My favorite ones have been Thief and Mesmer, but there isn't enough staying power for me to play in the long term.

The weapon variety on most classes is severely limited, add to that the limited number of attacks per weapon and it's just BORING. None of the classes really have anything special that makes me want to play them above the rest, either, to be honest. The Thief and Mesmer however appear to have a little more of a flashy combat style, jumping/porting around quickly, hopping in and out of stealth, etc.

I'm actually extremely disappointed with the class designs. :(

The game is beautiful and I love many of the systems like the personal story, exploration, dynamic events, and how the whole game is structured to support team work (aside from SPvP), but they really dropped the ball on the classes and they aren't any fun. WvWvW and SPvP are kinda ass, too.

They were both meant to. But then again, I never claimed to be mature to begin with. If I was, I'd have probably outgrown video games altogether.

Mesmer, then necromancer then guardian. Thief is too dull, the rest are ok and I may get into warrior more.

I agree the game itself turned out to be a "meh" pluss, but I don't understand how the classes could have been much better. The only downside I see so far is that guardians never dies, which seems to be a bit unfair, but may be due to my ignorance. (My guardian has not died yet). Other than that I think GW2 is the most alt friendly game on the market, and the main (only?) reason to keep playing.
