Sure, I'll admit you could have been more social in other games. You might have even, I don't know talked to a few people here and there, participated in some group activities, raid bosses and the like. You might even of felt like you were playing in a larger community of gamers, but it doesn't matter.
The fact is, is that if you want a social experience you have to seek it out. You can't rely on mutual interests and forced interactions, think about it, do you go to a hobbiest club or a spin class in real life, or do you simply walk up to a fellow on the street minding his own business: "Hey bro, let's be friends!"
Of course, you go up to the guy on the street. Why the hell wouldn't you, you anti-social or something? Spin class, let me tell you if you need to go to organized group activities to meet new people then you need to learn some social skills, fuck everything, interact with people everywhere, but the places designed to facilitate it.
Life, is not responsible for making you friends, you are, so don't expect people to organize this shit around you.
It's the same in GW2, why should they make grouping mandatory? Is grouping mandatory in real-life? Hell no.
You just walk into an office building and start tappity tapping at a computer and everyone else can mind their fucking business, why? Because you don't need their help, everything in the real world is designed for individual completion.

'Cause Guild Wars 2 is trying not to shove it's social penis down your throat of course, they want you to have to go out on a limb and have to expose yourself on the internet, so that YOU can shove YOUR social penis down somebody elses throat aka. Making a Friend.
So, I say again to anybody complaining about how this game is anti-social or that it's solo-orientated mechanisms lead towards isolation and single player esque multiplayer experiences. I say again, to fuck you good sirs and madams.
For it is you, the basement dwelling, attic conversion, three bed condo living anti-socialists that are anti-social. All GW2 is guilty of is letting you be yourselves, and if the real world were so forgiving you could live your entire life in a miserable depressing isolation.
So be thankful, or go back to WoW or any other game in the past ten years that actually realized MMORPG's has the word Multiplayer in it, and that Multiplayer RPG's were originally designed with player limits as group activities for people with shared interests. Because GW2 forgot about that with the new knowledge of how awesome they are, and they are saying to fuck you too.

I have to disagree. I'm the biggest (hyperbole) GW2 apologist on this site, and GW2's game structure does not foster nor encourage communication. Part of the genius of the dyanmic event structure that doesn't require grouping offsets the social aspect of an MMO. There are plenty of people playing, rezzing one another and doing events, but they aren't talking to one another. They're playing this as a solo experience until they get to dungeons.
I would love some Barrens style chat somewhere in this game.

this just isn't true.. but if that's what you want to believe... I'm also curious how you could even solo in this game aside from crafting I have yet to do an event without people running with me.. also I'd really love to see anyone solo a META event which there are 2 in every zone I have seen so far. Iv'e ran into numerous champions that have so much HP i could hardly dent them after kiting them for 10 min.. Fact is there is no way to tell how much of the game is soloable yet since there are just to many people around fighting with you. Now if you are the type that feels fighting alongside others helping each other complete the same event is playing solo then that's another story

Thats the sign of social misfits. If it is not needed they dont do it. I am social in the game because I choose to be, I dont need to be forced to be social. What promotes being antisocial, is being antisocial. You are blaming the game for the shortcomings of people.

Probably. But it's pretty ironic that someone such as myself, hugely introverted (but not shy) has no problems starting conversations, grouping with people and otherwise getting along.
And I'm, by nature, very solitary. I have a handful of very close friends and the rest of the world can sod-off as far as I'm concerned...
But it's a social venue, so I trot-out the social-venue rules and get on with it...
Yet a game with 2 million people playing is not organised enough for you to make friends in?
Socializing is not like if it were a goverment mandate. It doesn't need to be imposed upon you in order for it to be sociable. You either choose to be sociable or not. If the game would not allow you to socialize then Id unserstand your argument.

/this I flat out don't believe any poster who says that this is a solo friendly game. Try playing this game NEVER joining a group and you will see what I mean. Already I am reading forum posters complaining that they are having trouble leveling in the middle of the night because of the dearth of other players. GW2 is a great game but it is a solo UNFRIENDLY game and that is why I moving on. Thankfully it is non-subscription so I will probably be back from time to time.
Because hyperbole and lies seem to be the way of the troll. You know, I know and every honest player and forum poster knows you cannot just 'solo' the game. Very few DEs can be successfully soloed out of the starter areas. None of the Champions. None of the meta-events.
I'd love to see one of these clowns put up a video how they soloed the Harpy Destroyer even in Kessex Hills... Because that's an event that routinely wipes a score or more players...
The main failure of the game is the dumbing down of game play and the removal of any player interdependence beyond a mindless Zerg'ing of content.
They took a game genre based on the need for players to work together which fosters a solid community and tuned it into an Adventure's Daycare filled with solo players that are often confused with some brain impaired AI controlled NPC.
There is a lot of interdependence that goes beyond zerging. And yes, players need to work together.
if In this game I had to stop and ask around for people to "join my party" for 10 min everytime an event was going on how would that enhance this game in anyway? Also how would a DE play out differntly if they were in your party?
