ITS NOT OUR GUILDS FAULT......We had lost our rasion to group.  Don't get me wrong I still love this mmo and same with our guild. It's just another anti social mmo. WvW is fine for grouping, but how much can you play it.

The open world social seems to be totally non-existent. No one is ever in heavy trouble, but with the occasional rez of the guy next to you. Like in another topic here, players names a just a bluer.

NO REASON TO HAVE A FRIENDS LIST. In weeks of playing I had one request to group, and dismissed the invite. I wish I took it but reacted to quickly to reject it.  Besides what would be the point.  The game is made for auto group.

MMO's like this is why there is no longevity, other than being B2P. My guess is population will drop often until major patches are given or expansions are released.

It's not your guild's fault. It is the players' fault.

It's the game's fault. It was designed towards this very outcome. We all said this in alpha and beta, but everyone said "no way man it'll get better in beta don't worry! oh no they're just rushing now so they can see all the content they can!"

There's no benefit to grouping, so people don't do it. Everyone might as well be a bot. The lack of death penalty or group bonus just does not encourage people to work together.

Again, people have laid out in great detail why you are wrong. Saying Nuh uh isn't going to do much.

It's your fault and thats the fact. The game gives you plenty of chances and reasons to group. Theres tons of benefits to it.

What we did not want is forced grouping. I'm happy and I have had an easy go of socializing. I've grouped through pretty much most of the game. Most of those I know in game have grouped through most of the game.

    Why?

     1) it's more fun to play with friends.

    2) It makes things easier and go faster

    3) You need groups to do dungeons

    4) sPvP is much better if you are doing it with a group that you know and have practised with

    5) WvW is much better with guild mates that can easily cordinate with.

Theres a sample for you. Moral of the story is, you're wrong.

Moral of the story is, you're clearly too in love with the game to see sense.

How is it MY fault that nobody uses local chat or responds to group invites?

Becuase I honestly don't think you're even doing it. I have no problems finding groups. Why should you? I'm not in a huge guild. I don't level with my friends, I only pvp and dungeon with them. Yet I find groups easily in game, some without me doing anything to initiate. Am I just special case or something?

i'd like to see some video or SS showing this because when I ask for help I get help when I  /w someone I get a response.. not 100% Well, that's nice and all, but nobody here is talking about getting a response to tells of the time but just as much if not more than any other themepark out there. Most themeparks out there are incredibly antisocial...so that's not a good thing Just today I had problems finding 3 skill points because they were in caves with entrances pretty far from where the actually SP is.. I /map asked if I could get a hint within seconds I get 3 people /map replied and 2 /whispers

Hooray, you got people to talk to you in map chat?

Now, did you actually group with anyone, or get them to respond in local chat, or did they just run around like bots doing their own thing? You know, the actual issue we're discussing here.

sure did couldn't take down 2 champions during the same time.. asked the guys around me if they wanted to help out and they did.. not hard just ask.. just like every other game

I have actually grouped with people in both Harathi Hinterlands and Snowden Drifts.  The 4 of us ran around exploring, doing map completion and running DEs in the areas.  We didn't have to group, but we did and it was a freakin' blast.

I don't necessarily group often, but I do talk to people on a fairly regular basis.  The game is what you make of it, IMO.  Anet has given us many choices in how we want to play and I for one applaud them for it.  I love the freedom the game gives me to play it both like a SPRPG and an MMORPG.  I usually tend to the MMO part of it, but that's me.

I haven't even run any dungeons yet or done sPvP since release so there are two other options for grouping.

Love how the majority of your posts have become:

    1. Someone points out a fact that opposes your claims

    2. You respond by saying "Well that doesnt count because it would make me wrong"

Your denial doesnt change the fact that people are social in different ways whent hey choose to be. Just because its not your way and on your terms doesnt mean it isnt happening.

What game mechanics are you "fighting against"?  So, since the game doesn't FORCE you to do something, you're going to say you have to fight against it in order to do that?

It's not the fault of the game that you can't find someone to talk to or group with.  It's their fault and possibly your fault.  Not the game's fault.  The game facilitates many different styles of play.  Maybe you got unlucky enough to be stuck on a server or map that is full of asocial people.

I'm on Eredon Terrace (used to be on Jade Quarry) and have had no problems with chatting or grouping when I want to.  The chat window is usually pretty full, as are the maps themselves and the couple of times I've actively tried to group I spent all of 10 minutes LFG.  So, it's not the game that is the problem.  The socializing can be done very easily in the game.

My guild groups together all the time.  I usually group with the same 3-4 people mainly during exploring, running around the world leveling, etc...helps a lot for champion mobs and stuff.

I ALWAYS group in WvW, it's very helpful being able to see where my peeps are on the map, if they're getting jumped, etc...really helps us function well as a unit.

Occasionally we join the zerg, but many times we do small group ops where we sneak in behind enemy 'lines' and smack down a supply camp, supply caravan, etc.  Then get out before their zerg shows up...it's pretty intense when you see them rolling over the hill and you get out just in time!!

Anyways, the point is, my experience has been completely opposite of yours.  In other games you are forced to group with certain components, heal, tank, dps.  In this game you can group with anyone.

Is it as easy as trinity games?  No, it's harder.  I like the challenge.  I still love my old trinity games (that I no longer play), but this is different, and I like it too.  A lot.

I agree, there do seem to be a lot that have no idea what socializing is and have no clue how to do it. Forced grouping is not socializing. But again that is not the fault of the game, learn some social skills and I'm pretty sure your issue will be resolved.

It's not the game's fault, at all. The game only forces grouping for Dungeons. It greatly rewards grouping, with voice chat, for sPvP and WvW. What about the rest of the game? Well, they have removed most of the barriers to grouping, so it's up to the players to break the anti-social, "me, me, I must do what I want to do" solo mentality and play with others.

I spend about a third of my play time grouped with a friend. We take turns on who charts the path and we have a lot of fun playing together.

Break out of the "I must always acheive at maximum efficiency" mental pattern and put more of a stress on just playing the game for fun. At least part of the time. If social gaming is fun for you, then find others that feel the same way and group up. Let the lowest level character decide the level range, pick someplace you all enjoy or even haven't been to yet and go play.

GW2 has removed most of the barriers to productive grouping. It even rewards grouping by ensuring that XP and loot per kill is the same for each person as it would be solo, while the group kills things much faster along the way. It's up to the players to decide to be sociable. Other MMOs in recent years have done so much to train people to play alone that it will take some effort to break old habits. Stop blaming the game and take some personal responsibility for the way you play the game and you'll have made an important step in the right direction!

Yet you need something to talk "about". If you were presented with nothing to do, there is no topic at hand to relate to regarding what you are doing, which accounts for most of conversation.

GW2 doesn't present an atmosphere that promotes discussion about the game at hand. Sure you can have some chuck norris jokes or talk about the football game, but there's little to say about the game itself.

What game mechanics are you fighting against?

    You say people aren't social.

People say they have conversations in map chat regularly.

You say "but what about local" as if socializing in map chat doesn't count.

You say no one helps you.

Others say they regularly find help.

You say that the game is at fault for not encouraging people to help you.

"So us social people are going around, TRYING to group, and most people don't want to, because there's nothing in it for them."

So you want the game to force people to group with you? Why not just group with the other members of 'us social people', which I assume are a set of specific people you are referring to, as it would be rather bold to speak for everyone else, especially in the face of several social people telling you they are already interacting and having fun with others.

    Let's try this approach:

What server are you on? Maybe we can help find you a guild that will be able to group with you.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Played most of those games, and really didnt feel a need to group in them except for specific stuff. Like in Darkfall, grouping up with my guild for sieges, raiding villages, etc. I spent probably 3/4 of my time in DF off on my own soloing mobs, including golems, for crafting mats to make sets of gear, leveling up my skills, etc. The only time people were really social was for group PvP or to say "Hey this guy from SB, VAMP, or whoever just ganked me and took my stuff come get him".

BTW I think youre confusing grouping with socializing. He asked what games encourage socializing. Just because youre in a group doesnt mean people are going to want tot alk to you. Youre in a group to achieve a goal, like finishing a dungeon. The only way a game would actually encourage socializing itself would be if they gave rewards for talking.

Grouping is harder than soloing, so people won't group unless you give them a reason to. Thanks for pointing out the flaw in the game that others seem to be ignoring.

So, there are more than ONE of you and you can't find each other ? Maybe...here is a thought for all you people who are suppose to be social but can't find others...Use this thread and find a server to start a guild ?

Or how about, here's an idea, admitting that it's a fault of the game for not encouraging socializing instead of trying to blame the players, who have to fight against the game mechanics?

There seem to be A LOT of players do NOT have problem of finding groups or making groups even in this forum. Why is that ? Are we just soooooooooooooo lucky ?

    We must be!

Judging by the frequency of this complaint coming up in almost every GW2 thread on this, and other forums, I'm going to say, its a legtimate problem lots of others are having.

Could be it's just the meme of the moment.  Not long ago it was "CS is Pay2Win!"  Then it was "WTF no endgame?"  Lately it's been "I'm bored!"  Next week it will be something else, I'm sure.

Well, they have removed most of the barriers to grouping, so it's up to the players to break the anti-social, "me, me, I must do what I want to do" solo mentality and play with others.

And because the game encourages those solo mentalities, no grouping happens unless you have a pre made group from outside the game.

Grouping is harder than soloing, so people won't group unless you give them a reason to. Thanks for pointing out the flaw in the game that others seem to be ignoring.

The game encourages people to play the way they want. Grouping makes the content easier so there is reasons to do it, you aren't penalized for being in a party with someone in any way like you are in most games. No exp penalty, no loot penalties, no need to fight mobs way beyond your level to get exp in a group. It has BETTER grouping mechanics than pretty much any MMO you can name.

And yes... It actually allows players to solo and do loose grouping with out penalty as well.

No one one in sub chanels.

Wait until guild battles come. That'll be the time of your life.

Yup. I'm done. You've clearly only ever played WoW clones and you'[re judging the game against that.

Giving no bonuses or incentives to group is not BETTER than any other MMOs. It's significantly worse than almost all the actual social MMOs out there.

Except this has been around since the earliest beta test, and is still here. But go ahead and relegate any legit complaint about the game to "hurr just being a meme".
