What is the point of this game?

CothorCothor Member UncommonPosts: 174

WvW seems pointless really. The bonuses are not significant enough to care about.

spvp is pointless as the gear cannot be worn outside

Dungeons are pointless other than farming shards for crafting

It would seem there is no way to elevate yourself beyond others, there is no form of name recognition, no way to be known as the richest, best, etc. Just pointless content.

The graphics and questing system are very good, but once you hit 80 the game just comes to a halt. Perhaps I am missing something here?

Nope, not missing anything.  Basically you're 100% correct, its a game made for new age socialists who loathe the idea of putting in work towards something that would gain them any benefit over others.

Edit: Unless that benefit is purely aesthetic, then its A-OK (logical dissonance what?)

I'm with you now. The game was great, but I am finished with it.

Aren't you never really supposed to be finished with an MMORPG?

From that point of view, playing any sort of video game is pointless too. That mentality is beyond me, always the need of some sort of progression to make the players feel great about themselves because they could spend more time ingame to earn that "special thing" that the others won't have. That's why I love eSports games over all those games with their stupid progression, because it's all about skills.

I didnt make it past lvl 9. I made a few other characters all up to that point as well. Tried WvW as well. Nothing especially drew me in. Doesnt seem to be the immersion that my attention demands to stay sane. Now i dont log in anymore.

I disagree. In other MMOs you can be better than other players by obtaining the best gear and being able to accomplish things that are not possible for them. I want recognition, I want to be known as one of the best in some catagory. This game does not offer that, the game has absolutely no purpose at all. There is no benefit to being level 80 when you could just be level 10. This game is really confusing and it isn't looking like it will have a bright future.

That quote was a big deal for me as well. This 'mechanic' did not endear me at all to the game and seems to promote more uniformity than anything else.

    Srry but HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just proved me that you are just a noob who needs to have better gear than other to be able to beat them. Welcome to GW2 where its all about skill and not the gear.

Also you contradict yourself, you said you want recognition (lets take PvP for example here) but at the same time you want to be able to have better gear than other to be able to kill them more easily? What's up with that? It doesn't make any sense since you won't ever get recognition for beating someone with lower gear than you.

If you want recognition, be one of the top PvP players or one of the top WvW guilds. Being able to have better gear than other won't give you any form of recognition whatsoever.

edit : Also if you disagree then tell me what's the point of playing, for example, any single player games?? Do you think you can get some recognition in those games? Nope, because you play those game to HAVE FUN! If you really need some recognition in whatever you do, I would give you the advise of stopping playing video games and make something more constructive in RL where recognition will really means something.

Finally people are seeing what I have been saying since Arena.Net said they were going to make GW2. Arena.Net and NCsoft have no concept of end game whether it is PvP or PvE. Everyone laughed at me and said Guild Wars 2 would be different from Guild Wars 1. whelp here it comes

I'd love to know the name of this MMO you can play where your character will end up being totally unique and more powerful than all the other players around you, because afaik any player in every MMO out there can at some point attain the same gear, same points, same achievments, same everything as everyone else around them.

If the OP has to ask "whats the point" then playing MMO's aren't for you.

I've been playing mmos since 1997. In every successful mmo, there is a way for players who work hard to be recognized in some way. Guild Wars 2 does not have that. If you don't understand my point, you don't know shit about mmos.

In other games players "can" obtain the things that you have, but the reality is that most will not be able to due to lack of time and/or skill. Therefore, you are seperated because you have put in the hard work.

Ands thats fine.  But you dont see us loading up your skill based games and whining on the forums and bitching to developers that they dont have enough progression of character?  No, we go play the games we enjoy instead of ruining other people games.

Thats what happened in the MMO industry,  A bunch of non MMO players came in, made a big fuss about the CORE ASPECTS of what makes an MMORPG an MMORPG, and now you have the glowing piece of shit that is the mmo of current times.

This is what happens when a game is designed for everyone to be a winner.

Oh well at least borderlands and torchlight are pretty fun for now.

Having fun. Unless you think having fun is pointless too.

It sounds like you just want to stand above everyone and look down on them. We really dont care how long you've been playing MMO's or how deeply you think you understand them some of us don't have fun being the end all beat all. There are people that exist that think that being the best is boring. That just having fun with a game is what's most important. Why do I need this awesome gear that no one else will obtain for whatever reason(Lazy, wrong time wrong place, hax?). If I can win every fight, kill everything, and never be defeated then what is the point of the game? You see what I did there? Just flipped your whole point around. You say a game that's about having fun and lacks gear progression and e-peen stroking is pointless and I say your idea is pointless.

Although, if you think about it, with that mentality all games should appear pointless. Halo: Why am I shooting these guys. What have they ever done to me? The Elder Scrolls: Why do I need to play this game? Killing these dragons is so boring and pointless. World of Warcraft: Why do i need to grind to max level just to raid 5 days a week and 'maybe' get a piece of gear since I'll be one of 50 people there...

You see what I mean? That mentality just doesn't work here. Perhaps the game just isnt for you...
