A simple question: "So what are the differences between this and the original Darkfall?"
How do you answer that when you're trying to get people to come back to Darkfall: UW?
I don't really know where to start, so I thought maybe we should all compile a list of new features that has been confirmed by AV.
**Visual Updates**
- New motion-capture animations
- New character models
- Revamped world, new textures
- New dynamic light system
- Plethora of new and revamped item skins
* New sound system
* New Crafting System (including recycling system?)
* Introduction of market (auction house)
* Newbies start the game cut-off from the world during their tutorial while they familiarize themselves with the game.
**Character Development**
- Role System - You can pick (and change whenever you want) a basic role for your character, for example, Warrior, Mage, Skirmisher. These "roles" will define what armor you will be allowed to wear. Different roles will provide different bonuses or penalties towards different armor types (heavy, medium, light).
- Specialization System - You can no longer be jack of all trades, master of everything. You will have to specialize in certain discipline, or disciplines. For example, you can choose to specialize in Water Magic as your primary and Earth magic as your secondary discipline. This is different then having Earth as your primary and water as secondary.
Furthermore, opposite schools will lock one another, so if you pick Fire, you can not pick Water at the same time, or if you pick earth, you can not pick air at the same time.
There are many specs to chose from, including a "healer" spec for example.
It's important to note that you can switch between specs by talking to NPCs. This also means that you can still master/level everything in the game, but you can only use certain amount of abilities at any one time. This will make it so new players can quickly and easily develop their character in a certain spec and be just as effective as every veteran, while at the same time, veterans that put more time into developing their character can switch back and forth the specs if the chose to develop more than a single spec.
**PVP**
- Resource Monoliths, where people get rare materials for controlling an area
- Momentum mechanics?
- Wobble mechanics?
* Territory control by linking player villages and player Cities.
* Features to make battle preparation easy and intuitive
* More features that reduce downtime after death, including limbo system.
* New GUI!
..what else?

I´ve played Darkfall occasionally(carebear and all lol) and I liked what
I experienced in the game, it is rather exclusive and in my own opinion
lightyears ahead of other(or should I say THAT other) fantasy sandbox real-time combat MMO´s.
I didnt experience any major problems or gamebreaking things when I played,
did the free trial and ended up paying, dont really know why I stopped,
I had fun and it was some what scary with FFA full loot but that was part of the fun.
I think it had great atmosphere and was very immersive, and if they are gonna
update this further through graphics, music etc, Im definitely gonna try this game.
I know you guys love your game, and I don't mean to be rude here, but....
Does this not scream NGE to anyone else? Will the game you guys love even be close to the same after this?
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
No it does not. NGE completely changed the concept of SWG. DFUW is taking the same concepts from DF1 and making them better.
I wasn't in SWG until after the NGE, but from what I could gather the NGE changed the game for the worse. It took something that was challenging but rewarding and turned it into easy mode, especially regarding Jedis. And it wasn't really run by the players themselves.
UW is an evolution of DF, or at least that's how it has been portrayed for the last few years. Things that were annoying or outright crappy in the original have been finessed or changed completely.
I don't believe every bug or negative in the original will be completely gone in UW, but I do think the game will take what made DF so awesome in the first place and make it even better.

"You're either with us or against us"
what have the dropped from ubber hardcore to medium other than the so called grind?
The trading system for one. You used to have to go to individual houses in villages to pick up stuff you were buying, and could be attacked at any point. Usually a good idea to bring some protection to escort you with your goods if you were going to pick up anything valuable.
It wasnt 1st person. It was a mix of both 1st and 3rd person, depending on what you were using (bows & spells 1st person, melee weapons 3rd person).I remember reading a long time back theyw ere going to make some changes to this and allow you to pick your view, but that was a couple of years ago back when it was still DF 2010, then DF2.0. Not too sure what they have done with it now.
The market system will not be in at launch..

So at the moment its gonna be the same as it was in DF. Plus banks are currently universal in darkfall so you can open your bank from any bank in darkfall its not specific to a location like Mortal Online. So in Darkfall you never really had to escort anything. If you where going to buy somthing off someoe you would go to their clan city, then you would get them to turn off towers and open the bank up. You would to the trade and put the item straight into your own bank and then re-call out.. The only thing the new system will do if they bring it in is make it easier for people to buy and sell stuff..
Saying that if you did want to buy stuff from the vendors in villages i guess there was a little risk involved there.. and yeah that will be gone.. but i cant really recall buying many things from vendors..
You forgot another big change..
The armor system has been totally revamped..
I won't ever play DF again, cba with the general PvP mindset or attitude tbh, but kudos to Aventurine for once again proving a game can be supported and robustly developed under the sub revenue model while still being profitable for the company involved.
Looks like you open world gank PvP types finally have a game you can go to and leave the rest of us alone :P
You know what,i am often critical of developers and the games they are marketing but this time ,i think a developer is actually doing the right thing. That is a lot of significant changes and i like most all of them.
My biggest problem with the game however is the world was too bland/empty.Even the forts were near barren. It was VERY obvious the game had no assests. The game needs a LOT more assests.
DF actually was a good idea for a game and i played and did try to like it.
I also felt like i was running around with no purpose, all games need a purpose.
Although i like what is mentioned here, i will remain skeptical,VERY skeptical until i see it done.If they can pull this off, i will most certainly give the game another whirl.
He is correct, they have to rush this out unfortunately becuase players won't wait too long,so there is going to be some give and take for sure.
Here is the guy talking about the game
Aventurine
A little disappointed MMORPG was not on top of this,it is someone's job to supply this site with MMORPG news.
LIstening to this guy i have changed my mind, before i thought he didn't care much about gaming, but i think he does really want his game to be good and not just a money maker.I can feel his passion and understanding of the game when he talks.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I am 100% going to buy the game again, yes DF1 had it flaws as many other games. But no other game have ever captured me so much as DF did.
The open PvP world + the combat system is just magnificant. And I cant wait to play the next chapter..

ok so I am getting hyped by yet another game, thanks to all the fanbois around every new release.
question, I never used my free trial to even check this out, should I do it now? or not even bother?
also if anyone can clear up, I cant stand first person view, but someone said some of it is 3rd person, If I am able to play the entire game 3rd person I would be way more interested
If you go all melee, you can play in 3rd person only. Though, in order to cast supplimentary spells to enhance your attributes and combat potential, you will have to equip a staff and go into 1st person mode. Which to me, personally, is one of the major immersion killers in this game. You should be able to play the game fully, in either perspective. I can't imagine it would be impossible, as Skyrim shows that you can play FPS in 3rd person when casting spells and firing arrows.
