Latest X-fire numbers?

PaddyspubPaddyspub Member Posts: 104
Wondering how this game is doing in terms of x-fire numbers after almost a month since EA.   Anyone know?  Anyone got a chart?

Tbe Repopulation will be what SWTOR shouldve been.

Just looking at the chart at http://beta.xfire.com/games/gw2 it's easy to see that gw2's population is shrinking very quickly. And the best is yet to come (MoP).

the game has shown a steady decline on Xfire.. but.. if people are still queueing for W v W PvP, then i have to wonder how accurate that is.. although, the sample sizes are actually pretty small, so it might just indicate that Xfire users don't really stick to any one game for any length of time.. image

    Best kid's game, maybe.

And you don't have the population statistics for GW2, the only evidence is that people are playing less than they did at launch.  That happens to every MMO.

You really have to compare day to day, not peak to lowest point.  The x-fire chart for nearly every game follows the same pattern.  Sunday is the peak for the given week, and usually Wed. or Thurs is the lowest.  You need to compare Sunday to Sunday, Saturday to Saturday, etc.  So comparing the peaks, sunday the 16th was at 68k compared to 93k for the peak for the week 2 weeks earlier.  This is roughly 28 or 29 percent decline.  But (there is always one) that is in hours played, not players, the players declined from about 15k on the 2nd (yes I have been following and keeping tabs on it, I really wish I had more of a life) to about 12.2k on the 16th which is a roughly 18 percent decline.  So hours played is declining more rapidly than the number of users, which is common since people tend to play most heavily in the first few weeks.

Are we really gonna fgo down that path again? MOP is for kids and GW2 is for grown ups with its fluffy asura and 'my little pony' pink bows? why can't you people disagree with other people opinion without generalization or labels? seriiously? been playing GW2 for 20 days and i don't see how and what in this game puts us in a position to call MOP a kiddies game. The game is full of kids and pre teens.

LoL LoL LoL ... Are you joking?

I am a 6 years WoW player in a hardcore raider guild... and It's hard to see someone thinking MoP will be "the best". Maybe best for kids and girls who like pokemon. Also the new talent system is garbage. I think I am just tired of the game after so much time.

As for the numbers in xfire, it's showing stabilization for GW2.

I think it's a pattern for every game, when you look at graphs for other game the pattern is the same. There is a big decline in hours played (50 000 h/week)  - that's a fact. But it happens to all games so I think it's just a normal thing these days

I pumped in quite a bit into GW2 and I dont have xfire... Most of my guild doesn't. Hardcore population might be shrinking but a good chunk of casual players still pump a lot time into it
  • Sevenstar61Sevenstar61 Member UncommonPosts: 1,686

Xfire numbers are more of a trend then real numbers... you can't really estimate population from it. For example Rift has like 100 Xfire players... you would think that game is dead and it's not....

Edit: Rift - today 147 players - just to be accurate. GW2 - 11402 players

Correction: That happens to every FAILED MMO. It didn't happen to successful MMOs like WoW, EQ, DAoC etc. Their populations kept rising for the first few years (4-5 years in WoW's case)

And I never implied MoP is "the best" at anything, I just mean that GW2's population will have a huge drop at MoP release. The question is: how many of those who leave for MoP will come back to gw2? To be continued...

  • JackdogJackdog Member UncommonPosts: 6,321

While I agree that XFire numbers have droppedin the last 3 weeks, the question is where did the players go to?  The #2 western MMO which would be WoW, it's numbers have been flat for the last 3 weeks, # 3 would be SWToR also flat, Aion dropped a bit, LoTRO is pretty much flat. If people are dropping GW2, where are they going ? Certainly not back to WoW, SWToR, Aion, or LoTRO although WoW did take a almost 50% hit on GW2's release date it looks like.Back on Aug 26th WoW had almost 50K hours

On the MOP thing I just have to chuckle, not sure who thought that was a billiant idea but have to wonder what demographic they are aiming for with pandas.  Will be interesting to see how much of a XFire bounce they get and how long it sustains

    I miss DAoC

The real question is how many will leave GW2 to go back to WoW, so far the answer seems to be no one. WoW had almost 50K ( 48913)  in Xfire 2 days before GW2's release, it dropped by over half with GW2'sd release and as of today still is only around 20K ( 21161)

    that's not what I see.

    (not a gw2 player btw).

the decline is descelerating. the game is approaching stability. naturally stability is below the peak not above it otherwise it wouldn't be called a peak.

the final datapoint is abnormal, that does show accelerated decline but I won't make predictions out of 1 datapoint.

edit: Phry, i know the words "steady decline" sound cool and all but the quadratic curve I'm looking at is the exact opposite of 'steady'. a straight line is steady. a parabola is not steady.

It doesn't matter if the decline is deccelerating or steady. What matters is that there is a decline already (not even 1 month after launch). Successful MMOs usually GROW in numbers for the first few years, then they peak and then they start losing players.

BTW It's very noticable when doing DEs in level 20-60 zones nowadays. I see myself skipping most of the group events (because I can't find other people) which never happened when I got my first char to 80.

This made me lol. Yes, I think wow has its share of minors, but GW2 is so obviously aimed at a 10-18 audience. How can you not see this?

stil have not answered the question. WoW had right at 49K players on Aug 26 2 days before GW2 release, yesterday it had 21K,. SWToR, LoTRO. and Aion are all also pretty much at the same pont they were at GW2's release. If people are abandoning GW2 in droves as you are claiming where are they going ? WoW lost almost 60% of it's XFire numbers with GW2's release and they don't seem to be going back

    Reserved for sept 25th.

Check back then, you'll see where they went.

so what is your prediction for September 25th? 40K ? 50K? And where will they be on November 25th? Do you honestly think 5 levels and a panda race going to get WoW back up into the 100's like it was a year or so back? WoW has been steadily losing numbers for a long time before GW2's release. My guess is people are tired of the endless grind, time will tell of course

No doubt WoW wil get a bump on the 25th, just like GW2's first weekend was the highest numbers it has seen. Question is how long will it take for the shiny to wear off?

It will be even worse after MoP, and i dont like wow. Not even a month and population is droping fast, i wonder why?
