Man, that trailer had everything. If I didn't buy the game before watching that, I would of been racing to get it soon after. Woo boy.

i get that there are artistic hidden messages but the way it was executed was cheaply done and full of out of place cliches and distractions. The only things that stood out were dirty guy, gas mask, people stepping on coals, wet boobs, and dragon.

    IT WAS SO AWFUL.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Psh, I get more enjoyment on my char dancing than that video.

Can't believe they went so far as making them bounce so life like. I was just chilling in an instance at level 80 and was the first time doing my dance when it caught my eye. Thank god I took the biggest pair on my human. woot woot.

I think they know more about what they are doing than we do.  We got our trailers and are playing the game right now if we intended to.  That video is for a different audiance.

I assume though that they knew this type of reaction would happen with current fans and are probably laughing along with us.

these 3 are much better IMO:) strange because they made the "get ready" trailer and thought that, while short, was well done

You're just saying that because those are on your super awesome video page.  :D

Seriously though, I agree they should have used something more like those videos, IMO.  Subtlety doesn't work all that well in trailers and ads so with very few exceptions, I don't think most people will be psyched to check out GW2 just based on that.

Sorry, Anet, but you f'd up that one.  It doesn't happen often but it happens.

I've only been able to see the video muted.  I don't understand the gas mask.  Are they trying to imply that the current genre stinks?  Oh well, will watch it in an hour when I get home.

Hi - resident GW fanboy here. But let me just state my opinion as objectively as always:

That trailer sucks as badly as SWTOR the game sucks.

What a contrast between the marketers ideation and the collective developers vision. Something was lost in the translation along the way.  That trailer conveys some amorphous "rebellion" of a twenty-something group of kids with 20 seconds of game footage. It's one big shrug.

It's a well done video just entirely inappropriate for what it is supposed to be promoting.  It's clear that their was absolutely zero conversation between ANET and the director.  As a result, it comes off as extremely pretentious.

I bet this trailer was written and directed by the same people who wrote the in-game storylines and voice-over scripts. I bet they thought it was good, too.

ANET really needs to hire some professional writers. Maybe look into picking up the ones fired from TSW.

spending tons of money on story and VO is a horrible idea for a MMO.. no MMO imho should have most it's resources put into it's story/VO period.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I hear that makes great MMOs... Or should I say single player RPGs, like most that have already done it. Not like I took this flight for the in flight movie, else I'm sure I would complain too.

Exactly.  Same people did V for Vendetta and Matrix, which both were pretty awesome.

I like the game, but they must have been sarcastic when they wrote that script and later some other person must have had a brain fart and in error sent in the wrong script and finally those who actaully ended up making the trailer laughed all the way to the bank.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Yeah, someone who gets paid to do something, and does it for a living. I very much doubt someone actually got paid to write that monstrosity, and if they did, ANET should look into getting their money back.

Storylines, voiceovers and trailers are not mandatory for MMOs, but if you're going to put any of those in your game, at least make sure they are good, or leave them out altogether. That trailer is an example of something that should've never seen the day of light.

Or maybe I just don't have the sandbox mentality to comprehend it.

    Thoughts?

Anyone noticed the charr with a harpoon gun coming out of the water ? that is odd, is he planning to shoot with it in land base combat ?

Exactly my point.  He's a professional writer, it's his profession, ie: he gets paid for it.  Personal opinions about quality have nothing to do with the meaning of the word.

Well if there's a problem, it's that the Matrix / V for Vendetta guy might not understand that video game trailers aren't movie trailers and has little to no experience marketing to a gamer crowd.  It doesn't mean he's not good at what he does... just that this is not what he should be doing.
