I think the majority of the people that are bored is because they miss the treadmill.

    I surely don't.

I wouldn't say treadmill so much as I would say a purpose and sense of progression....those things are completely missing from GW2

Agreed, I also have zero connection with any of my chars, as they all feel too much aloike. Sure theres differences, but in DE s all I did and everyone around me, all they did was dps everything. All in all, I ve never felt less connected to my char then in GW2.

They are if progressione = gear grind and purpose = gear grind to you. Thankfully, not for me. I haven't been so dedicated to my character in an MMO in years.

I dunno, I think in DE's you have to choose to provide that extra layer of support and/or control and not just expect other people to do the same.

It's pretty easy to plan/see where players are going to group up to zerg a spawn or boss or something in a DE, so drop your combo field there, stop dps'ing to rez people, use utility skills that buff others instead of just passives for yourself or whatever etc. etc.

You really have to play with someone else or in a small group with coordination (like mumble) to get the same feeling of satisfaction from playing a more support oriented roll.

A lot of the time the players you are helping/supporting won't even realize you are doing anything to help them pew pew zerg the DE, but you'll know you are helping them and (to me) that is enough most of the time.

Like when fighting a boss in a DE when I see the boss charging up a big attack - you know other players are not going to dodge or use a shield skill or anything and will probably go down and need rezzing.

So I'll use my Virtue of Resolve and give them all Aegis before the hit lands - or I'll use my 4 skill on shield and give them Protection to mitigate the damage.

Do they realize what I've done for them? Probably not - but I know.

Yep, this mentality, and it's cousin:  "I personally don't like this game therefore it is terrible."

Comprise about 90% of the arguments here.

I agree to an extent, except we see this comment in every single game now.  People putz through to cap or whatever and then are bored.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, but 24/7 handholding is going keep these sorts of people entertained.

If anything this is a primary argument why I think sandbox games (or those with heavy sanboxy attributes) will never be wildly successful.  Even though people complain about how WoW, EQ2, RIFT, and those sorts of games lead you by the nose and funnel you through the game in a very linearly controlled fashion, they aren't being honest with themselves and the rest of us.  What they really want is to be led by the hand through the game.

How many threads have you seen where someone whines about being bored and then asks the question, "What should I do now?"  Really?  When someone has to ask everyone else how to game then the problem lies directly with them.  If someone can't figure out what to do and how to game then that's their problem.

Folks like you mention really need to come to the realization the end-game of ANY game (even sandboxes) is going to involve repeating things over and over.  This is just the nature of reality.  The rate of content consumption greatly exceeds the rate of content generation.  It's totally cool to finish the content in a game and move on...but you really shouldn't be "surprised" when you "run out" of content.

In the end, what really matters is that the game contains a lot of content that is actually fun to repeat.  Which is why I think gameplay is so massively important.  No one is going to repeat the same content for a year if they don't enjoy the gameplay.

Yeah...that one also kills me. Especially when even that is  not enough and they resort to insulting those that do enjoy the game as bing idiots, kiddies, etc.

Nope and as a matter of fact I hate gear treadmills for longf years already. For GW2 is just so predictable and bland and after a few first zones I knew exactly what I'd find in next ones and so far there have been zero surprises. No exploration as some fanbois were exclaiming. I still play it and think it's an OK MMO but only because it has no sub. Oh, and GW2 dialogue is the worst I've personally ever experienced. Then again I avoid Eastern MMOs like a plague and I'm sure there are much worse there because ads on this site give some hints what to expect :)

I hit 80 a few days ago and am bored as hell. Everything at 80 feels pointless since there is no progression/ranks/ladder. I tried to roll an alt but the quest system has no replayability at all. There seems to be 5-6 different DE types and about 5-6 heart types. It feels like I have done each of them about 100 times.

I think I need a break - maybe I'll load up Vanguard - had a max toon there years ago and a mid 30s shammy that was fun.

sorry that you got bored at 75. I honestly find reaching 75 in one week after release its a bit too fast and content skipping.

That's not content skipping, that's content devouring.  They give you tons of exp for pretty much all content in this game.  The only way not to get exp is to sit around.

People saying "well you're playing too much then.."... it's 2012, it's a new MMO release, its standard procedure to play the hell out of a game the first month you have it. Getting bored after week 1 means there's a problem with the game, not with me

I remember when wow launched me and 4-5 rl friends were playing it averagely 8-12 hours per day the 1st year.2nd and 3rd year around 5-7 hours per day.

When something is good, deep , and have goals in character progression terms that players like, u dont get bored or tired. You are lured by the game's enviroment and want always some more.

I am indeed bored after being 80 for about a week.  After hitting the cap I took a break.

I then bought a bunch of yellow gear from the TP for ridiculously low prices.  They looked good enough for me that I didn't see the point in grinding for better looking gear or gear with negligable stat increases.

I then tried completing the 100% world acheivement and got sick of it at 70%.  It's really all the same and becomes tedious.

I tried WvW but the queues are gamebreaking and if I play long enough to get in it's mostly a giant zerg.  There's plenty of room for improvement in this aspect.

I tried a story mode dungeon with a pug.  Wiped a few times and was in the down state quite a bit.  All in all I didn't really enjoy it at all.  I've since respecced my traits for more survival but haven't had the slightest inkling to try the next dungeon.

I haven't tried sPVP but they don't seem to have an instant join method and so I assume I have to show up somewhere to join.  I also don't like the elitism with PVPers so ...

I rolled a necro and realized around level 12 that I don't like it very much.  I now have an engineer who will farm ore as he levels to help my main level armor/weapon smithing.

This game doesn't offer much in the way of character progression after the cap.  It was my major concern for the game before I tried it.  It will be a while before we see how it affects the longevity of the game.

well, i tried to re roll an Alt today because i really have no idea what else to do with my Guardian since i own exotics and have finished my PS and also 400/400 crafting

but i just.. couldn't, i mean the PS are mostly the same, you join the 3 factions available given for you, the re do all the Map explorations.. re do the same DEs which i dont even bother to participate in anymore

so basically, all you can do is. well ,enjoy 5 of the given Personal Story of each race.. and if it's not enough, then do it with 3 different factions to see the outcome.. which will need some true dedication

    So What Now?

Really? so every MMO after everquest was worse than GW2. Not only worse, but 100x worse. I'm by no means a WOW fanboi, but WOW did more for the genre on a bad day than GW2 will ever do.

GW2 has really added only two things:

    1) Less BS. I can use the trading post anywhere (assuming it's working), I can teleport everywhere, I can mail from everywhere, etc.

    2) More action-based combat. Although, even this, Tera beat them to release with.

Everything else in the game is based on many WOW invented/improved features (e.g. talent trees, quest hubs).

    Edit:

I should also mention that WOW created real financial interest in the industry. Everquest started it, but WOW smashed it. Big companies have been spending big money all in the hopes of touching a part of WOW's market. So just remember, your precious GW2 would never have happened without its predecessors

We on the same page here. I can't even play my Alts to level 9 because I am bored of doing the same thing, as my main, but with even less skills to use at a time.

i also don't play SPvP. Never have since beta. WvW is the only PvP I play. And it's boring when your server is losing and nobody wants to play.

also Anet removed the Rewards from the escort missions in WvW, which was rewarding for leveling characters. WvW in its current form is horrible for levelings.

i play my Alts there for hours and can't even unlock all my weapon skills, and only got a single level. Quickly bored from that.

I noticed myself getting boring in the higher lvl areas. And suddenly I realised why. The Risen. They are in about every area I visit and I'm really getting tired of those mobs. They are boring, have ridiculous animations (Benny Hill show anyone? ), barely do dmg and take ages to kill. Most of the hearts and events about them are the most boring ones Ive played so far.

I just can't stand them anymore. I even prefer dredge over Risen. At least they have cool animations and their classes etc make more sense as a mole like race.

The Risen must be one of the most annoying endgame mobs I have ever seen in a MMO.
