Weird trailer but I kinda liked it because it was different. Trailers don't have to show off the products features or even tell you what product the trailer is for right away necessarily... They just need to catch your attention. And this one did that while also displaying a couple features of the game (co-op play and epic PvE).

Indeed. They certainly got my attention with that trailer. However, mixing today's world with fantasy (medieval themed) world was somewhat confusing. What was the meaning of walking on the fire barefoot? However, I liked that moment when that women got out of the water and tatoos appeared.
Think they need to stick to viral marketing or maybe that is their plan to get people talking about how fucking stupid their trailer is.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Hmmm... That was... unexpected... It seems to both speak about the the in-game struggle and the current state of the MMO market.
I wonder if they will bother cutting that down to a 30-60 TV spot, might make more sense then, but other than that was not a typical trailer. I wish they would have kept working on it and saved it for after MoP releases which I thought they would have done anyways. What's the point of releasing a trailer when you're still suspending digital sales?
Makes no sense at all. I did get a laugh at 1:10 after I went to Ascalonian Catacombs for the first time last night and imagined the correlation. Ouch.

Thanks for sharing. Now go play your epic game... oh wait.
Not a problem, as a matter of fact I m in a huge 100+ vs 100+ battle in PS2 as we speak, so I will return to it.
So you took the time to pop out of that to come and make that extremely interesting and releveant post? Wow, such a multitasker, send me your CV please I could use people like you.
Amazing how hard it is to alt-tab. Will do on the CV.

QFT. it's surprising how many people have hard time grasping this concept.

Lol...I think plenty grasp it. They just think it is really weak and a poor concept.
'scuse me now while I run off to spray paint some walls.

everything was fine, until you see the asura, char and sylvari. those races just look downright ridiculous. the tone of that entire video doesnt even come close to matching the visuals of the races or landscapes. the video should have just ended here> 1:38 then with a roar of zhaitan/ any elder dragon. this ad tho does? work in one way. the latter part of the ad matches the fight and slaying of zhaitan. Downright underwhelming. 4/10
Yeah, I think the thing is Anet are the complete opposite of SWTOR EA-Bioware. They are specialists in MMOs, after years of GW, and they are really good when it comes to game design and gaming ideas etc... But they are a smaller company, with much less money for the extra stuff like ads than the other Behemoths. It's like the voices: it seems like they had too little money and got a bunch of second rate people.
So yeah, let's just hope this "trailer" does nothing against GW2, and just attracts attention... because it's not what I have seen best. At all.
God damnit! The Manifesto is SOOOO much better than this. Why did they do something like that?
Like it or not, ask yourselves one honest question.
You're at home, the TV is on and this starts playing. You have no idea what it is. Do you watch it?
Personally I would because though I normally tune commercials out the quality of production is good and it's really strange. I'd have a kind of twisted, scrunched up look on my face, "What the..".

You can't show manifesto on tv. this trailer you can. And it will server better purpose than manifesto trailer. Mani was for people interested in mmos, this is a mainstream trailer.
Trailer is nice! I like it! And pretty much what this guy from youtube said :
I got it!
First 40 seconds are about how MMORPG genre stood completely still. Continues with graffiti part - making same mistakes again and again. Then comes quote "For those who hoped for better world, the time is now to open our eyes" - we all know? what does this mean. Then "To rise up" and this is clear, that we all want something new. Walking on hot coal - trying something new. AND ZHAITAN! RAWR!
i understood it and the trailer was reminiscent of apples 1984 trailer for macintosh
ps: just seen the new MoP ads... yeah. I love GW2, and I am having a complete blast palying this game, but in my opinion it just blatantly lost the ad wars.
And it's true the manifesto wouldn't be good for a TV ad, but showing the game designers again, with images of the game behind them, is just the spirit which got me confident in Anet: the devs are in the front line making this game and they have great ideas. I think they should have advertised on that. Then again, I'm not a communication bigwig, so maybe they know what they are doing...
That was AWSOME! I like the blend they did. People getting to overly critical about shit these days. As a few said that video was NOT for players, it was for TV and to get people intrested in GW2. actually reminded me of an old school everquest trailer.
It's weird enough to catch attention and looks pretty. Of course, it has little to do with the game itself and I didn't like it, but maybe it's good for marketing purposes. At least it won't stop anyone from buying the game and may encourage some people to look it up.

That has to be one of the most poorly planned trailers I've ever seen - do even Anet know what they're trying to say with it?
IMO, there are too many themes almost randomly thrown together with little to unify them.
I'm hoping that the appearance of it means that the production value was low but, looking at the first bit, maybe not?
Why they didn't just use some of the quite lovely in-game assets is beyond me...especially with some of Jeremy Soule's music to draw upon.
My theme song.
Gas Mask + hoodie + real world = The Secret World.
Its imagery I see daily.

That reminded me of hipster prannies.
Ugh that was beyond bad. Imo the cool dragon saved it from being a 1/10

Btw,. I think we can already buy digital copies.
LOL, could be it. Makes more sense than what's on the surface.
1. "Man, have you seen that weird ANet trailer for GW2?"
2. "No, what's GW2? Is it any good?"
