The game is a good "mass appeal" game, but in my opinion it isnt deep.
Playing Vanguard again.
Being as old as I am I can respect what has been offered me. Not only GW2 but through years of gameplay on many titles.
You are losing sight of what you are given, and are all quitters IMHO. You give up to easy and are not true MMORPG Champions. If you are bored, it is not ArenaNet, Funcom, or even Blizzards fault, it of course is your own. It is your responsiblity to take hold of each game and play it, not let the game play you.
Find this on any old games website and play it for 2 years.
Then when you are good and ready play this for a couple more.
When your done, play a current day mmorpg of any kind and your boredom will be fixed.
Here is a secret, there is not anything out there from the past, present, or coming up that isn't going to make you bored. It isn't your fault, you were all born at the wrong time.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Perhaps the game is more geared for those new to the MMO genre... like it has a lot of things to it but not a lot of depth behind them?
How some people can be bored is beyond me, clearly this game is not for you. Clearly MMOs are not for you.
I am lvl 57, the game is great. PvE, Spvp, WvW, crafting, exploring, whats not to like.
I did a DE last night that led to 3 other DEs, it was great fun, great exp, good loot and just plan fun. I soloed the first one, then a few people showed up for the next 2 and then I soloed the last one.
Too those that say everything is on the map and there is no exploring. This just proves you have not explored, there are a ton of hidden places on almost every map I have been on. I have found chest deep in caves systems NOT on the map,
I have done mostly PvE so far, I jumped into WvW the other day, it was fun but decided I will wait for that till I find a guild.
I have not had so much fun in a dungeon since EQ1, they are hard which is great. I wonder if some of you that are "bored" have even run a single dungeon yet. How can you be bored when nobody can beat these dungeons flawlessly yet?
No to mention the world Dragons to fight. How many that are "bored" have taken down the dragons yet?
Look its simple. Clearly you bored players do not want to play MMOs, you want to play single player games that set goals for you as you are not creative enough to create goals for yourself. Your bored because the game does not tell you want to do next.

I don't think its fair to discount opinions simply because they differ from yours.
In my opinion its deeper then Vanguard. Vanguard is a fun game but is boring to solo and solo and solo and solo because most who are left paying that game are max level and have been for years. My necro in Vanguard is 45 because I am so sick of soloing I cannot bother to log in anymore. Last time I logged into Vanguard (shortly after FTP launched) I did not see another person till I hit a major hub. That is not fun in a game designed for group play.
In GW2, group content just happens and people are normally around to help and fight with, no need to gather a group together and go find some place to fight, just show up and fight group content. Its so refreshing. Its so nice that while I am out soloing I can come across a group of peole doing DEs and help them out.

It's especially funny because MMOs started out having much more depth and sucking up much more hours of time without getting bored.
So I think they mean "Clearly 2012 mmos are not for you". Cause the classics that pioneered the genre were for us.
lol @ everyone that is bored because they "grind DE's and hearts." This game throws so much XP at you that you can just walk around and level. All I did was go after Way Points and Skill Points and hit 80. I only did DE's as I came across them and avoided intentionally doing hearts because I usually do not enjoy them. This is the first game where I was basically able to level to cap off of exploration.
There's definitely DE grinding as one option for karma/gear at 80, but before that you're only creating an unneccessary job for yourself.
I am not discounting opinions simply because they differ from mine, I am discounting them because they show lack of playing the game. They show lack of understanding of the game. They show lack of any common sense. They show lack of any logic.
They say the game is easy and has zero depth but nobody can clear even the first lvl 30 dungeon with dieing yet, so how is that easy?
Zero depth but I have yet to see another Necromancer built the same way as I am built currently, how is that not depth?
How many other MMORPGs can a Necromancer be a front line fighter and execl at it? Guild Wars 2 is the only one so far, trust me I play a Necro in ever game that has the class.

No, clearly not. Guild Wars 2 is the closes a game has come to giving me the feeling like Everquest. Clearly MMOs are no longer for you, they have passed you by, it happens, move on but stop tell us the game is the problem. [mod edit]
Bored???? Not at all!!! im bored with my real Life that distract me from playing some times but thats it~!~ im having a blast and cant get enough...havent felt like this since WoW and Darkfall..
I have to break my gaming sessions into small bits. An hour here, a half hour there. If I sit down and play for an extended period of time it gets pretty boring. It's an extremely repetitive game, and it's particularly bad about giving you very little to look forward to in the leveling process. Between 30-80 you just get trait points.
If I didn't enjoy the engineer and the world and lore detail so much, I'd probably be close to done with it, and I'm not in my mid 20s. There is a lot of stuff to do, but it all has a repetitive feel to it.
I think I'm in a time anomaly here. This thread reads like it's January and like it's on the SWTOR sub-forum.
If you replaced GW2 with SWTOR in a number of these posts you couldn't tell about what game they're talking.
I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.

Logic and common sense. Logic and common sense tell us more people are playing and enjoying the game than those claiming to be bored which mean the problem is not the game but the player. If it was the game then more people would be getting bored and quiting then not which is not the case. I know some of you have a problem understanding common sense.
That's odd, because eq1 and gw2 are night and day. EQ1 was a huge grind, with no instances, no overflows, level based progression, very few events and barely any quests. Your main progression in EQ came from finding a good camp of mobs you could farm for hours and hours on end just waiting for repops.
As someone who has succeeded at both games, I can say they are nothing alike.

They also said "If you love MMORPGs you will want to check GW2. And if you hate MMORPGs, you'll really want to check GW2".
Alongside calling it a game all the time.
I like GW1 and GW2 a lot because they are good games.
In my view GW2 is a MMOVideogame first and a MMORPG second, with MMORPG being an alternative world where you live through your character.
I'm not sure what you want from a game and I may be wrong about what GW1 and GW2 are, but it being a game is why I play it and I've clocked around 10000 hours in GW1.
Well I love MMORPGS, so I'd put myself in that category. I understand it's a game first (MMORPG is a subgenre of the "game" genre afterall). But if it's more of an action game, why not call it that? And I don't think the whole "it's a game, that's why I play it" argument holds up. There are literally thousands, if not millions of games out there...do you play them all just because they're games? I sure as hell don't. I like certain types of games, MMORPGs being one of them, as well as SRPGs and FPS. But again, we are digressing.
My post was speculating on what I think this incoming bored feeling I have might be and with all the replies this OP has gotten and the thoughts listed in the replies, it got me to thinking.
I play GW2 because I like RPGs where I can build/modify my character (but my character is simply an extension of me as a player).
I also much prefer GW2 being a more action oriented game than plain dice roll for everything.
I like the skills/traits builds.
I love the gameplay.
I also like that is massive world that is populated with other people that I can play with without any effort on my part but at the same time those people aren't required if I don't feel like it.
GW1 I played because it was and still is the best team based RPG.
All these aspects aren't what someone that spent hours upon hours in games like UO and EQ would probably talk about.
That is why I said I played because it is a game and not because it is a MMORPG.
Currently playing: GW2Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders
Sitting at 79 and will ping 80 tonight, I've just blasted through DE's and crafting to level. Boredom isn't an issue as pvp is my 100% focus.
As long is that is solid it will hold my attention and sit nicely as my secondary game should DF 2.0/Repopulation/ArcheAge actually come out and be any good.

Yep. This is the hype/hate cycle of the MMO genre.
To all those discounting people who are "burning through content" the leveling process was made to be easy, those leveling fast are playing as the game was designed. There is no point where leveling slows down, the ratio of XP earned is the same at any level. The game is designed to be played by any level in any zone. Every area can be repeated.
Therein may be the problem for some. Maybe they simply do not want to repeat those areas...I've pondered about that a lot since they described their world design and DE down scaling. I've never been a person who enjoys repeating areas in Theme-park MMO's, which is why I've never been an alt-player.

I' m confused. So are you saying that people whom have played and enjoyed MMOs 10 years ago would not enjoy GW2?
I have the same feeling. Level 15 and this game didn't hook me up yet.
The spirit of Guild Wars 1 is lost for me. And the worst thing in my opinion is that every weapon have fixed skills to it, and you can't choose between some possibilities like in GW1
However, there are good things like the WvW, the open world, the crafting is also interesting (though the way of getting new recipes is a little bit confusing [I'm not talking about mixing ingredients randomly, but leveling your profession until new recipes appear])

Depends what they want from it.
Didn't you say you felt a disconect?
What do you want from the game that isn't there?
I had no problem to play thousands upon thousands of hours in GW1 after reaching level cap and max gear.
WildStar is like if Ratchet and Clank had a baby with Beyond Good & Evil and that baby was raised by World of Warcraft and Spore and babysat on the weekends by the aliens from Space Jam. It's an ugly bastard worth a few laughs but not much else.
