    1. combat is enjoyable.

    2. You can move through a zone without agro'ing 20k of mobs. Meaning you can actually do the jumping puzzles most of the time without fighting a ton of mobs. The agro range and mob density is nothing like some other resently relased mmos.

    3. There is hidden stuff all over. Did you find the secret treasure chest in Lion's arch? Did you do the pirate quest line? How about the asura sky puzzle?

    4. You can actually test character builds for a lvl 80 class, at 1st level.

The same old condenscending argument...  "if you find GW2 boring, then MMOs aren't for you!"

I couldn't last 30 mins in GW2 without rage quitting from complete utter boredom.   When I have time I play EVE, I also get fun out of WoW, yet somehow I don't like MMOs because I find GW2 boring?  ugh

You probably say that "I didn't play GW2 correctly"... right?

This is an opinion forum. That's all this place is. Ok, there are some occasional facts tossed around, but even then, there's an opinion usually attached to them.

So what? You don't like his opinion, it's not the end of the world, it's not even the end of your game. Why was it so important to make an attempt to let him know his opinion is not welcome? Just because his opinion is not in line with the majority does not invalidate his right to express it, nor does it give the right to everyone else to disrespect him. That is, so long as his opinion is presented properly. You may not like his opinion, but what's worse than that is if we all allow dissenting opinions to be silenced, we lose the freedom to express any opinions.

If you disagree with his opinion, then respnd to his points with your own opinions and why you disagree and do it constructively, Maybe the OP didn't see everything and might be willing to keep an open mind.

I really hate when people say if you re bored in this game, then MMOs aren t for you. Thats just a stupid comment. Not all games appeal to everyone. The reason you re starting to see these post, with many many many more to come, is the fault of beyond overhyping. I played it and knew I could get a month or 2 of fun, but probably that would be spread out over 2 years. No sub allows that, but, alot of people blindly bought it because so many people made this game out to be the best thing ever. Which it s not even close, IMO, and it seems alot of others.

He could more accurately say Themepark MMOs, but his point is still correct. MMORPGs have always had certain features / things to do, and always will, otherwise they would be a different genre and no longer MMORPGs. There is a natural repetition in the tasks of MMOs because TBH, its simply impossible in our current level of technology to create an entire living breathing world where no action/event repeats itself and everything is unique and new  to everyone at all times.

    Killing sutff / players

    Collecting things

Escorting / guarding things (which involves more killing things)

    Crafting

Stories / quests / missions / events / whatever theyre called in particular games

Those are some of the things that for the most part makeup the entire genre of MMOs. Some games will replace one or 2 of those things with 1 or 2 other things (for example storyline / quests in exchange for terraforming and city building in a sandbox like Xsyon). But that list is sort of the standard for the genre.

If those things are boring to you, then yeah you're pretty much bored with the genre. It would be like taking CoD, Battlefield, Halo, or whatever FPS you like and and going "Im so bored with shooting at people" then trying to say  youre not bored with FPS games, just that one particular game you happen to be hating on that week because its the "cool" thing to do and makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I wont say that, no. It is true for some people who kinda misses most of the games but no game is for everyone and if you tired that fast it just aint for you.

I like it, you dont. I on the other hand like Rob Zombie, Guiness and ladies with red hair and fiery temper and I dont expect you to like that either.

But OP is kinda upsetting me since he say how I will feel about the game soon. To quote Nine inch nails: "Dont tell me how I feel". I sure wont tell you how you should.

He's upset because this is an mmo VG (Massively Multi Player Online Video Game).  This isn't a graphically updated version of the old school mmoRPG (Massively Multi Player Online Role Playing Game) where community makes or breaks an experience and aything you can add to the game that contains your personal touch (i.e., building and decorating a house, as 1 example), makes the game something you want to keep coming back to.

I don't mind GW2 - it's like Gauntlet on crack - that was a fun old school video game by the way - but of course it was never an mmoRPG.

Developers are putting the wrong label on these games and folks are beginning to blur the difference between in depth, immersive, fantasy escapism and just a quarter slot game that is a lot of twitch fun.

Somebody advised me to wait on the game.  I took them at their advice. And now, I can't think for myself and will miss all of life if I don't buy now while the 'getting is good'.

Except, a lot of people that are playing are saying, 'the getting is not good with GW2'.

    The problem is this:

It's not a lot of people playing the game saying that. Its people CLAIMING to be playing saying that. Or people who havent made it out of the starter area, have experienced like 5% of the game (in most cases havent even touched PvP) claiming to know it all.

Seeing that you havent played yet, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference. But those of us playing can see it easily. Im not talking about people opinions on wether its good or bad, but flat out lies about mechanics of the game, or the current state of the game, or what there is to do in the game.

Theres also the cases of either just plain stupidity, or having trouble adapting to certain changes in GW2 compared to other games. I run into this even with my brother who has less experience with various MMOs and has kind of limited himself to 3 main games over the years. So he is constantly running into things where he doesnt quite get what he is supposed to be doing, or how certain mechanics work because he is stuck int he mindset of what he expects from his other games. Some people learn as they go and have no problem afterwards. Others immediately freak out, blame it on everyone and everything but themselves for not getting it, and then troll forums.

If youre on the fence about it though, I would suggest getting it. Even if you dont love it and play it long term, youll get enough out of it to be worth the money and also know if some of the things theyve done in GW2 are what you would like or dislike in the next game that comes along that youre thinking about getting. You know how this industy is. Any success will mean others will copy it. So if you dont like GW2, you wont like the copycats in the future either.

That is simply not true.  One should not negate people's options through denial, claiming they haven't played or whatever.  Most clearly have played, and has made reasonable progression to reach their opinion.

It's amazingly goofy how defensive people get about this game. It's like 90% of you only ready the topic title. The OP has valid points. All these things feel like a chore. GW1 felt more like an adventure and got rid of the "speed hours and hours leveling up so you can move on" and replaced with "spend hours expericing the story and seeing the world".

His point about the combat is extremely spot on. With the exception of the elementalist, the amount of main skills in the game is a joke. In GW1 we got hundreds and hundreds per class (not to mention the amount is doubled for everyone because you got to pick a secondardy class. But here you're stuck with the same main skills thats determined by your class and weapon of choice. What I liked in the first guild wars, was that I could make my character unique to me and determine what skills were useless to me and which were good for my playstyle. With GW2 I'm forced to have a playstyle just to get through this game.

The only thing that hasn't changed is the difficulty of the mobs. They attack you relentlessly and unless you have heals and other meat shields you die fvery easily because they didn't bother to give everyone proper defense. In GW1 you had NPC party members so you always had someone with you. in GW you just have yourself and have to wait on others if it's too hard. Leveling is joke because everywhere you go the gow delevels you.

I played a certain part of personal story (deleveled be to lvl 11 when i was lvl 14) a few days ago and had two other norns with me and one norn had a pet. When we fought 7 or 8 mobs that spawned at once the NPCs got killed by them within 15 seconds of combat. That should be enough to tell the devs how horriblty "hard" this game is. I put quotes around hard because I consider a hard game to be Demons Souls or Dark Souls. This game is just ridiculous. You get two dodges and then have to wait before you can do it again, but with 8 mobs attacking you all at once, what kind of tactics can use? Dodge once, attack attack, dodge again, attack attack, cant dodge, so attack and get hit, use the one heal you have, attack attack, sill cant doge, attack, attack, oh i can dodge once but my health is almost gone and my heal is recharging, annnd I'm downed. In that quest I mentioned, another group of mobs appeared right after I killed the last. There were about 3 groups of 8 I had to struggle through and it wasn't fun or challenging. It was annoying and I never want to do it again.

The only reason I'm putting up with it is because I spent 60 dollars on it. 60 is a lot of money for me. Like a lot. I was counting on this game being awesome. But it feels like one big chore. If the combat were fun, it'd be great. thats the only reason Tera was bearable. Combat is 90% of the game's gameplay. This type of combat should not be a next gen mmo. A reviewer had it right when he said this game is like a halfway step toward being next gen. It's not bad compard to most MMOs. But certain aspects of it are done way better in various MMOs.

I won't disagree that pretty much all themeparks consist of similar mechanics.  The question is, what type of quests would you prefer?  How about designing some new quest systems and publishing them?

I think gw2 does a great job of being a new, modern themepark.  People need to understand that until we see a AAA sandbox or a great hybrid, what you are getting in games like TSW and GW2 is the state of the art.  As others have said, mmos might not be for you right now.

You can say you don't like GW2 features, but to argue the quests are repetitive is to state the obvious.  This is themepark questing.  It's like saying an FPS game is repetitive because you run around and shoot stuff.  Well, duh?

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

    Nice post.

If I ever purchased GW2 I would play it like how I used to play Quake/Quake 2, or any new multi-player FPS out at the moment, for a quick PvP action fix. Looks fun for that.

Also, to people saying to OP mmo's are not for him. Yes, themepark MMO's like GW2 are the cash cow at the moment but there are others.

Even the combat for each class gets tedious after awhile. For example firing a rifle being blown backwards is a good novelty but after a dozen or so times its irritating.

Dynamic Events get more and more repetitive.  Am sick to death of escorting quests. Really do we have to escort people at least ten times in every zone? Its designed as a clever timesink to make you feel you progress at a slow pace. Even if its nott escort, its kill a thousand centaurs, bandits, worms. YAWN AND MORE YAWN.

All I have to say OP is you are in the minority of this.Tons of people still loving this game. This is all your opinion. Every game has repetition somewhere that is just how it goes. Either enjoy the game for what it is worth or go cry about it elsewhere. I bet you are going to go back and play WoW. That is where you belong. Can I offer you some cheese with your whine?
