Sooo...the OP is ranting, because playing a MMO, implies timesink activities and Kill/Guard/Collect/Escorte quests?...

Then you shouldn't play another MMo for the rest of your life...

Be it a RPG an Adventure/Exploration game, a RTS or any genre of gaming, it always comes down to KIll/Guard/Collect/Escort missions..., and since the freakin dawn of time...

SO yeah stop playing videos games if its bother you.

The only thing a studio can do about that, is to wrap it up in a nice package, that makes you feel like its different from another game.

And here you have to work a bit with the studio and development team to make the magic work, just like when watching a movie, you know that it isn't real, but you want to, because else, the mere fact that you watch it would be useless, and you couldn enjoy any form of entertainement.

SOmetimes you have to let yourself just go and be taken with the flow the game/movie propose to you.

And GW2 do that pretty well, it was a longtime since i last played a MMo where i would completly lost track of time.

Oh and if you don't like Centaurs..., JUST DON'T PLAY A FREAKIN HUMAN!

Or go lvl in another zone from another race if you want to play a human that badly...

My charr always ends up against Legion flame CHarrs, i don't complaint..., they are only ennemy's that i must destroy to my path to glory and power, even if i kill billions of it, i don't see the probleme...

Like i said if you have a probleme killing 10+ times the same kind of ennemy, don't play a video game for the rest of your life...

For a start no more escorting mules and centaurs wil be banished forever

Fair enough.  There's probably been a million threads on "how would you make an MMO" though so I won't ask what your ideas are here.

Do you have an "advisor" for every game you buy?  And you do realize that almost all of the people that have criticized the game in the past week are people that were already doing it before launch, right?  Ask your advisor to think that one out for you.  The MMORPG.com forums are hardly indicative of a real problem, nor real success, no matter how you slice it or who's doing the slicing.

And all of the people who are praising it unconditionally are the same people who did so before the game launched.

If you want to bring up slicing then it really does cut both ways :)

Actually, no they're not.  Aerowyn and I have both noticed something you apparently haven't.  It doesn't cut both ways.  In fact, it cuts more in the favor of GW2 if you're not counting log-in issues and so-called hacking.  People who didn't expect to like the game have come out and stated that it's awesome.  I don't see much of the opposite, but hey I'll keep my eyes peeled.

There's also been retractions, after they've played some more.   Going back to their original distaste.

Given the updates from ANet it's very clear hacking is a major issue, so I'd not label them "so called".

Here you can at least skip the boring quests if you want to, in Rift (or whatever) you need to do them to come to the next one.

I am sure this game is not for everyone and I said so a long time ago, but the people it aint for are the ones enjoying the gear hamsterwheel and being told what to do all the time.

No questhubs give you a lot of freedom, at least for a themepark. Many people cant handle this but dont tell me how I will feel about the game soon, you have no clue.

The main thing I like about this is that most of it actually is challenging thoughl. You cant watch TV while doing your skill rotation as you can in most other MMOs.

I think the problem is while quests are presented in a more free form way, they are mostly just kill, collect and escort.  Most modern mmos have evolved to provide more than just these, or at least disguise them a lot better than GW2 does.  Also the way they are presented allows for one to switch off, so the meaning to the quest is lost.

You do have a lot of freedom in how you level, but the hearts a very similar to quest hubs, except each quest is condensed into one ie. water the crops, fight back the bores and/or get rid of the pest.

If you quest 3-4 levels over you head or CHOOSE to be real active, yes they quest are challenging. In truth though, you can just stand in the area of a quest, watch TV, and still be rewarded.

yah but if your the type of person that never takes breaks ..it will be

also if your doing the same things over again it will be also..trying doing other things..explore diff lands and events

i agree it does get a bit mind numbing at times but imo i think they should have more char slots "5 limmit" or buy 1 more for 10$ ..that price seems a bit too much for 1 slot ..if 10$ is going price for 1 slot im really thinking that the cash shop is gonna be a force to be recon with soon..not good

also i know there wasnt that many races to begin with in gw1 ..but it would be great to see more..alot more diff races would be great to see sence this is a new gw and went into the "true but new" type of mmorpg genra ..sry but imo i didnt think much of gw1 much of an mmo..i just hope it dont turn into a mad rush to pvp for max lvl and end up like a DAoC or WAR ..where you can pretty much be max lvl by the end of the day or week...imo its what ruined those games..atleast for me

If the masses can be pleased this easy I think I'll make myself a new mmo. I'll have a trynamic event system. It will be epic and awesome.

    2 things:

    1) If you are constantly running into an "escort the mule" event.... maybe move somehwere else? The same events do occur repeteadly in the same place. So if you sit there for awhile, yeah youre going to keep getting the same escort quest. If you logged out where an escort the mule even was taking place, common sense would tell you youre going to run into it again when you log back into the same area.

    2) The vents that do require escorting someone to a location is for a reason. It is not "escort this guy, then bam youre done thats it. nothing else to do here". Once they get where they need to, it starts setting off other events. If you fail the escort, those events never occur.

If youre not just a pure troll and actually play the game and think the escort events are so boring, you should watch this video of the Frozen Maw event, which starts out as an escort, then when complete sets off a series of events resulting in 4 events with seperate objectives all going on simultaneously at that same location, and the ultimate goal of defeating the Svanir Shaman chief: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGy4Nj9s9IM

Or better yet, go get past level 10, I recommend 14 or 15 you should be alright, and go do the event yourself. It takes place in the area between Hunter's Lake and Frusenfell Creek in the Wayfarer Foothills (Norn area).

Can t disagree, it becomes very boring fast. I knew it would, but bought it on the premise that it would not be a main MMO. More people are saying this not even a week after release, not suprised I m right on that.

In the last few days I could count on one hand the mobs I've killed. I have spent my time exploring, crafting and doing puzzles. If you are bored playing this game, then MMOs aren't for you.

Does this game have its faults? Yes. But IMO its the most well-rounded, all ways something to do mmo out of the new ones.

    1. combat is enjoyable.

    2. You can move through a zone without agro'ing 20k of mobs. Meaning you can actually do the jumping puzzles most of the time without fighting a ton of mobs. The agro range and mob density is nothing like some other resently relased mmos.

    3. There is hidden stuff all over. Did you find the secret treasure chest in Lion's arch? Did you do the pirate quest line? How about the asura sky puzzle?

    4. You can actually test character builds for a lvl 80 class, at 1st level.

frozen maw is a huge event but there are plenty smaller ones that have cause and effect even in the starter areas.. for instance in queensdale there is a guard tower that gets overrun by centaurs that starts an event if you fail it the centaurs destroy the guard tower.. you then can start another event in the little outpost down the road to bring a caravan with workers to that guard tower and fend off the attacking centaurs.. if you succeed the guard tower will be rebuilt.. these things happen all over the place and are far and away imho better than traditional questing found in most other MMOs.. also only queensdale have I seen a lot of caravan escorts so far.

I really hate when people say if you re bored in this game, then MMOs aren t for you. Thats just a stupid comment. Not all games appeal to everyone. The reason you re starting to see these post, with many many many more to come, is the fault of beyond overhyping. I played it and knew I could get a month or 2 of fun, but probably that would be spread out over 2 years. No sub allows that, but, alot of people blindly bought it because so many people made this game out to be the best thing ever. Which it s not even close, IMO, and it seems alot of others.

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196
Saying if you are bored playing Guild Wars 2 means mmos are not for you is just silly. Its just a game like all the others that have come before it. Every game whether its mmo or none mmo will have people that like it or dont. Does not matter if the reviews are off the charts there will still be people that dont like a game.

The combat system isn't good. Too dam fiddly having to constantly use the right mouse button to turn yourself around. It breaks combat. Just plain annoying. Even the combat for each class gets tedious after awhile. For example firing a rifle being blown backwards is a good novelty but after a dozen or so times its irritating.

Dynamic Events get more and more repetitive.  Am sick to death of escorting quests. Really do we have to escort people at least ten times in every zone? Its designed as a clever timesink to make you feel you progress at a slow pace. Even if its nott escort, its kill a thousand centaurs, bandits, worms. YAWN AND MORE YAWN.

Personal Story- Even more tiresome quests which involved escorting or saving someone. More bandits and centaurs. Great.

Gear- Can buy stuff with karma or pick up off the odd random mob. Most of the karma vendors don't have much and the majority of loot you pick is crafting stuff. Yawn another timesink.

The World- Didn't get a feeling of OMG this is epic.  Where's the decent music scores in this game? Cities are instanced nuff said.

Replayability value- the thought of getting to even level 30, then re-rolling and going through the dynamic event system again makes me feel nauseous. zerg fests of button mashing in every zone is not my idea of fun.

oh lol u notice that NOW?

i absolutely agree with u but i "saw" it after 2 BWEs n saved my money for a better game.

BUT.-.to be fair its like that WITH ALL MMORPGS with some of the points. they all get boring and repetetive sooner or later. it was SOONER in gw2 for me.

and i didnt feel like the game word was as "epic" as in other mmorpgs. (atleast what i saw of it )

The same old condenscending argument...  "if you find GW2 boring, then MMOs aren't for you!"

I couldn't last 30 mins in GW2 without rage quitting from complete utter boredom.   When I have time I play EVE, I also get fun out of WoW, yet somehow I don't like MMOs because I find GW2 boring?  ugh

You probably say that "I didn't play GW2 correctly"... right?

Too dam fiddly having to constantly use the right mouse button to turn yourself around. It breaks combat. Just plain annoying. Even the combat for each class gets tedious after awhile. For example firing a rifle being blown backwards is a good novelty but after a dozen or so times its irritating.Dynamic Events get more and more repetitive.  Am sick to death of escorting quests. Really do we have to escort people at least ten times in every zone? Its designed as a clever timesink to make you feel you progress at a slow pace. Even if its nott escort, its kill a thousand centaurs, bandits, worms. YAWN AND MORE YAWN.Personal Story- Even more tiresome quests which involved escorting or saving someone. Cities are instanced nuff said.Replayability value- the thought of getting to even level 30, then re-rolling and going through the dynamic event system again makes me feel nauseous. zerg fests of button mashing in every zone is not my idea of fun.
