So if I hadn't played the beta, but still loved it... That would be okay?

Don't do it Bill! there is no point....
This isn't directed at Bill:
I don't want to read or even see any reviews until the games been out at least a month and the reviewer has reached the level cap and tried dungeons, WvWvW, crafting and sPVP. Preferably on a really busy server.
Oh?! MMORPG.COM is doing an official review?
Okay then. *grin*
Bill Murphy reviewing this one then? Good!
This is the BIG one, can't wait to read the follow ups and eventually the review.
That would make it worse! I mean a game reviewer who loves games! That is just absoluty crazy and to make it worse a reviewer with a opinion!
I think the term review is not really accurate for this piece. It's more of a journal (like he said himself) a review just makes it sound...I dunno so concrete. While it could be possible the opinion of the writer is going to change while he levels.
I've been a little dissapointed with the game so far.... I'm only level 15 or so though, so here's hoping it gets better for me... I'm happy for all the fans that are liking it though. Just for me it feels a little lacking (pretty much seen this all before tbh, maybe I was expecting more after all the hype I don't really know)
Fingers crossed it gets better for me...
"I think it’s been a long time since I thought about a game this much when I wasn’t playing it. Does that make any sense?"
It makes perfect sense. I have the same symptoms and that's the sign of a damn addictive game.

GW2 is a very immediate mmo. You can PvP, WvWvW, crafting, and do the Dynamic Event PvE from the start. That's most of the game, though there are a few dungeons that kick in from level 30, so at 15 you likely will have experienced most of the things you can do to some degree or another. I like to play GW2 very casually as a secondary game, but if you want more then this likely isn't the game for you.
1) Reality is subjective, so are tastes.
Ofc, when we read a review, we expect the reviewer to be as impartial as possible. But, since them's gamers and humans (not static bots) they can be influenced by their expectations and tastes
If you read a review, you can easily see what bits of info you need from all the text, compare that info to other reviews and take out a mid value.
Also, i think everyone that's playing right now has enough info to have a personal idea of the game.
The ones like me, that read reviews to find out and sum up the info from the points thhey take out, are grateful for every review thy read.
One thing no one can deny tho : Interest is huge as far as i can see. Which means that if Anet plays its cards well..
It'll have a big comunity and things might start to change in the MMO Business
Originally posted by Mephster How about more glaring issues like GW2 being a clickfest, dynamic events not as dynamic as they seem and how dynamic events don't fail very often because it is way too easy. How about the fact that this game barely innovates to push the genre forward for better things. I think this is the fairest review we are going to see without the other future reviewers being so biased. Overall I think other reviewers will keep side-stepping the major issues people have in order to make it better than it really is.
A very fair review. I feel people are nitpicking for what happens in every single MMO launch. Yes. Stuff doesn't work. But its like because stuff doesnt work in GW2 its a huge negative, where in the past if stuff doesn't work it was just part of launching a (complex) MMO. The innovation was the evolution. Lack of quest hubs. No walls of text. engaging combat (no more standing there rotating hotbars). Return back to exploration. I agree that while others have done this in the past, ArenaNET perfected it.
Speaks to the quality of the game where the only negatives are things that normally happen in an MMO. Objectively, GW2 is fun. Its not for everybody but then again you dont have to pay monthly to pay for it.
What interests me is what GW2 *may* do in the future when it matures. TONS of options to make it even better than what it is today.
Other developers need to take heed or risk releasing an atiquated product.
I have not done the fire elemental DE, but I did the Giant DE in Diasse(I may be completely off) Plateau outside of Black Citadel and let me tell you we got beat on untill we started putting messages out in map chat by the end I bet we had 20 people pounding on this big lug. The interaction of reviving and damaging was truly amazing. I thought I would miss the dedicated healer role but I surely do not with the in combat revives it makes the entire event even more dynamic and fun.
Yes I am a fanboi, and I became one this week, I finally feel like I am playing an MMO I will stick with and nothing else really matters as far as gaming. Keep up the good work.
I got GW2 a few days ago along with my guildies that defected from SWTOR to *cough*SWG while some are split up elsewhere playing World of Tanks and whatnot, I personally think GW2 is holding up to its hype- the pvp aspect is what I've been missing for years, the pve is a bit generic but still fun and events gets everyone together and brings back a bit of nostalgia of oldschool MMO games.
At all the people saying Dynamic events aren't dynamic. You have a problem with terms. Rift's PQ aren't dynamic, they are random. Dynamic means the world responds to actions.

I agree with all the review and I would like to add another launch flaw that hopefully Anet is fixing, the party system and the overflow servers, first week it was a mess to party with my friends and do something together... but anyway as the reviewer said I can't stop looking at the environment and just goo "wooooooW" this game should be called "detail wars" lol it's just incredible... I can't even start comparing Divinity's Reach with Stormwind it's like SW it's just a far outpost xD
Trading post is starting to work now so hopefully we can all start making some money!
Originally posted by Reas43 Lol the entire first half of that love letter reads just like: These are the reasons why this review will not be fair or objective because I'm so emotionally biased and attached to this game. I called it over half a year ago based on the comments on editors from this site: they will not score it below 9. I was going to be conservative and say 8.7, but the first two sections alone guarantee it'll be 9 or over as MMORPG staff decided months ago. Keep it accurate as a laser folks. You have SWTOR and TSW to use as reference points.
You want a journalist to be un-emotional about what they report, but as gamers we are always looking for the game that captures us, draws us in, and that we can enjoy. So, considering we're looking for a game we can enjoy playing, have FUN playing, why shouldn't he include his excitement? When you can find a game that captures your heart and imagination, despite its flaws, you've found something special and want to share that excitement with others. His points, however "love letter" like it may seem for the positive stuff, is just as important as the "well, this feature is broken, etc." criticism too.
