What do TERA players think of Guild Wars 2

I have a 60 Lancer and a 45 Berserker in Tera. I dislike GW2 immensely. However, I also do not sub to Tera anymore either.

So, I guess take that for what it's worth.

I played Tera for a while.  Maybe I don't count, because I was never a huge fan of it, but I'd never go back, from GW2.  GW2 is better in every conceivable way, including combat and graphics, IMHO.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Ok huh why are you showing me these picture of GW2? Did i ever said that GW2 has bad graphic? No i simply said that Tera has good graphics with hih rez textures too, an even with a picture to prove it.

Now you reply with a lots of picture (not very good screenshots btw) and you talk about all these little things like grass, bush and fly who has nothing with the terrain resolution textures and plus you have to be rude and sarcastic with your ''mister high res sandy beach''.

More i see it and more i think you simply just trying to defend and sell me gw2 when in fact you dont even have too since i never said gw2 has bad graphics, nor did i said that it was a bad game.

This was a huge surprise to me when I logged in for the first time. Whole enviroment was VERY friendly, never seen anything like in the whole internet. There is big thread in GW2 forums saying the exact same thing. It might be partly due ArenaNets active ban policy where any asshattery receives a quick 3 day ban. Server selection is propably important part of this but atleast Gunnars Hold has been amazing so far.

I didn't sub to Tera as once again a friend purchased it for me!

Tera in my eyes was one of the best combat systems to come out in an MMO in a very long time but, it sucks if you want to main focus on being a healer you better be a mind reader! Also Tera fells to much Aiony (AION) to me it has the tell tell signs of an Grindy asian MMO with too much slutty gear for females! I'm not a feminist HELL I'm not even an female, if i want to see sexy slutty females i can go to my local Strip Club and see real booty or even better yet have my GF dress up in cosplay!

GW2 i havent played yet but seems it will appeal to me because of the personal story and not some SWToR personal boring story! I never played GW1 due to FFXI & WoW being out and playing those two games!

Currently the mmo I'm playing atm is FFXIV and I think GW2 will be my side by side game so I won't get burnt quickly! Yeah FFXIV isn't on par with those 2 games yet but I belive when A Relm Reborn drops it will become one of my all-time favorites in my 32 y/o gaming history!

Below is where we can disscuss and come up with new ideas for Sandparks!

From what I have read Terra has a better graphics and combat system, how much better is debatable. GW2 is a deeper MMO pushing you to explore and having a far more lore based world.

I played Tera but Guild Wars 2 is just so much better for me.

Tera - great combat system, nice graphics, the rest is pretty much bad

Guild Wars 2 - huge world that feels alive and there's constantly happening something, exploration element, dynamic events, endgame starts at begining, no linear questing, no subscribzion fee, huge replay value, i have yet to try the dungeons

I don't think I'll ever gona play another MMO with a subscription fee anymore.

Tera combat is a good try, but a failed one. Classes restricted to one weapon, skills that root you into place... bleh. GW2's combat is way better in every aspect.

And when we start talking about game content... Tera is a crap old 50+ years old car, and GW2 is the Bugatti Veyron. Quests in Tera's quests are so bad that they make WoW quests look like they were written by JRR Tolkien himself.

Graphic wise... yeah, the engine of Tera is nice. But that's it. ArenaNET's art team crushes Tera's any time of the day. Tera's world is bland and boring, while GW2's is handcrafted, full of details, and alive.

If you wonder why I don't answer your posts, it's most likely because you are on my block list - so don't waste your time.

I haven't tried Tera much. I got some friends playing it and they are having a good time. So here's what I can tell you about GW2.

Since the day I booted up the game, I have to admit, I am very happy. The graphics are great, the effects are pretty awesome, sound and music are good (could be better) - The gameplay is exceptionaly good. What I really like is how everything ties in together. Nothing is "completely new and original" but everything is so well chained that all you really have to do is walk out of a city and the adventure starts. Is the game perfect? - Na, it has a few things that ArenaNet could improve but is the game good and delivers as promised? - Yes it does.

There's so much details in the game that it's actually worth exploring. Is it less grindy and easier then most games out there. - Yeah, it's pretty smooth sailing but it does get much harder as time progresses and in many situation, you don't want to be there alone. Is Guild Wars 2 the number one game right now? - I believe so but that's also a matter of taste and opinion.

GW2 has a lot of hand painted details and that's nice!

Yeah, TERA is about a stale as a standard themepark.

I'm not sure why, though, a zerg of people spamming abilities and causing a scripted NPC reaction is a "living, breathing world". Perhaps you should play something that has a real world, one where the players are in charge?

Wait wait wait...you mean centaurs running to a trading post from their camp and knocking down wals and setting fire to crops and buildings isnt living and breathing?

Vast underwater environments with a large variety of aquatic life swimming freely isnt living and breathing?

Npc's with schedueled lives isnt living and breathing?

Actual voiced conversations from random npc's in towns(they literally voiced every conversation that can possibly happen between npcs) isnt living and breathing?

I think you, sir, are misguided.

You sold me on GW2 - I'll order it now.  Seriously.   :)

  • PonicoPonico Montreal, QCPosts: 650Member

If there's one thing that GW2 does well and above pretty much anything else is giving the sense that the world is actually alive. Sure, most NPC will do the same 3 or 4 things but in many situation, it's enough to give a sense that they're living there. Visiting a major city filled with npcs walking around, some interacting with others and all the random things that can happen quickly adds up.

The capital city does feel like a capital city. A farming village does feel like a farming village. There's more than 2 or 3 npc shoving invisible dirt in a loop. Some will start watering the crops and then move around to have a chat while kids will be playing and throwing snow balls around (in your face if you happen to be there)...

You'll see a pack of Moa (big birds) taking a long walk together and if you follow them long enough, you'll realize that it's way beyond the 2 meters to the right and then loop back.

    All these little details :)

In my opinion, no. It all feels really scripted and contrived. Not to mention that these events are repeating frequently. I think they are more fun, and are a better way to present the quests (vs WoW or something), but it's still pretty much the same. The activities involved are the same as we've been doing for years now. They're just dressed up. We're still killing a certain amount of something, collecting something, protecting something, etc. It's still a "checklist". I tried getting into the "atmosphere" of the game, but eventually found myself just doing what the quest told me then moving on. Everyone I know has also assumed that mentality just by playing it. I'm not saying we're not having fun, but to be perfectly honest, it doesn't feel THAT much different than the questing experience in WoW. I think that players make a world feel a alive, not NPCs. Oddly enough, even the other people feel like NPCs much of the time. I even mix them up sometimes when NPCs are involved in the dynamic events (which they often are). I'm not really feeling the social aspect they were praising so much, either. Rarely do I ever speak to anyone, or vice versa, nor do I ever feel the need to. Zerging around with a bunch of strangers looses its luster fairly quickly, and I didn't find questing with my friends to be as much fun as I had hoped. We group sometimes, but I mainly just solo. The game is very solo friendly, so it works out. Maybe things will change once I start doing the dungeons or the endgame DEs. Time will tell.

No, not really.  Tera's combat actually has consequences to every action.  GW2's combat doesn't.  I'd say GW2 is definitely the better game overall, but Tera's combat is superior.

Well, that's the problem right there, isn't it.  Until someone bites the bullet and STARTS talking, hardly anyone else will talk either.  Sociable communities don't just spring up by themselves, fully formed.  Someone needs to start the ball rolling.  WHy not you?
