That's not Mythic. Mythic is dead.

All the talent that was a part of Mythic has been gutted by EA.

There are now more Bioware employees in Mythic than former Mythic guys.

Between EA and Bioware... I don't want to them to even think about touching Ultima Online 2, especially not after seeing the horrible Ultima 4 remake they're doing.

Bioware has been working to further destroy DAoC for the last 2 years or so.

EA has not once been involved in a good MMO. Every MMO they touch dies. Do NOT let this happen. They already cancelled DAoC 2 and Imperator.

DAoC is a themepark, UO is a sandbox, that's the number one reason Mythic would never be able to develop a good UO game.

Second, it's not the same Mythic, they are Bioware 2 now.

Third, noone but Garriot should attempt an UO 2.

And im not even sure i would want UO 2 developed by Garriot....

I'd hardly call DAoC a themepark. Hell, the term "themepark" rarely applies to any game that isn't a WoW clone. Just because DAoC wasn't as sandboxy as UO doesn't mean it was a "themepark". Themepark implies being led by the nose and developer imparted safety. These things were not in DAoC.

DAoC is a themepark MMO, just like EQ & Lineage 2.

Just because they weren't a wow clone with streamlined linear questing doesn't mean they aren't themeparks.

By your definition, GW2 is a sandbox.....

Btw im not calling DAoC casual, shallow and linear, that's what todays themeparks are, old themeparks had more freedom and depth, but they where still themeparks.

Themeparks, by their very definitions, are about casual users, casual gameplay, simple mechanics, and keeping the users safe by never letting them off the rails.

DAoC and EQ let players off the rails almost entirely right from the start. DAoC didn't even have a tutorial for 5 years.

They were not themeparks. You can't say "old themeparks used to be different" because the term themepark itself is new, and was coined to described WoW and its clones in a more politically correct manner.

And no, GW2 would not be a sandbox "by my definition" because GW2 is insanely casual. There's no death penalty, instancing, you can't possibly make a weak character (or really a unique one), instant travel times...

This could be promising, but much like Ultima Forever, people will be screaming for this to fail before it even gets off the ground.

Yes, we apologize for having standards.

No no, it's fine for big publishing companies to keep churning out garbage and sticking an air freshener on it.

See... we didn't choose to have standards, we just made the mistake of playing MMOs back when they were still good and we foolishly assumed they'd stay that good.

I'm one of those people who use terms like... MMORPG and WoW clone.

Themepark is a term that was coined circa 2007 to describe games like WoW, LotRO, and the like. Linear, led by the hand, casual, safe, games.

It DOES NOT apply to DAoC or EQ.

sorry couldnt resist, beside that I think your definition is a bit... let's say unusual *cough*

On topic: I played UO from before 2nd age until a few months after aos and have no idea how the game changed since then, but I doubt that a true UO2 has a real chance for success.

In times of everybody wins, everything must be balanced and fair, everything is too inconvenient if it's not instant gratification I can't see how a successor of UO would fit in.

The people that originally created Dark Age of Camelot are long gone from Mythic. The lead designer for the RvR that we used to love is the head man for The Elder Scrolls Online I think, not really sure though.

Actually Mark "The Shitstain" Jacobs was already destroying DAoC before EA bought Mythic. Jacobs created his worthless pile of garbage expansions calle Trials of Shit, and Shit Frontiers. Those 2 worthless expansions were killing DAoC long before Mythic sold out to EA. The Lancelot server that I played on lost around half its playerbase within 3 months of Shit Frontiers. Nobody liked that crap.

How can you claim the "potential" game is beneath your standards when it isn't even past the approval stage? You know nothing about it. You (I don't literally mean *you*) just refuse to listen to even a possibility of a game being made. The game could have the brightest minds, biggest budget, most creative team ever assembled, but you guys already write it off as rubbish before it even gets off the ground. [mod edit]

You deserve what you get....NOTHING. Have fun playing....NOTHING. /sigh

Actually, New Frontiers was quite popular and well recieved by the majority of the community. ToA was not. Hence why the classic servers came into being. Mythic was planning both a true classic server (roll back to pre SI) and a sequel, but EA canned both projects when they bought Mythic.

    Two things.

First, my response was to the poster who claimed that "no game will live up to their standardes".

Second, we know plenty about this game just based off pattern recognition. It's a very VERY safe bet to assume that it'll be garbage, considering what this company is doing to WAR, DAoC, SWTOR, UO, and all the Ultima spinoffs.

No no, it's fine for big publishing companies to keep churning out garbage and sticking an air freshener on it.

See... we didn't choose to have standards, we just made the mistake of playing MMOs back when they were still good and we foolishly assumed they'd stay that good.

The game could have the brightest minds, biggest budget, most creative team ever assembled, but you guys already write it off as rubbish before it even gets off the ground. You will never be happy.

Yeah, cause those things worked out SO WELL for SWTOR lmao.

And sure I'll be happy. When devs can live up to the quality of MMOs made by 30 men teams on a shoestring budget in the 90s again, then I'll be happy. Until then, Vanguard will have to do.

The MMO genre has been hoisted on the petard of better graphics, so doubt a small man team will make a mainstream MMO again.

I don’t think Mythic were as bad as some are making out here, but not good enough to get my unequivocal support either.

Yeah, up yours buddy. Firstly, you massacred the Warhammer IP. Secondly, you aided in massacring (to a lesser extent, admittedly) the Star Wars IP. Thirdly, you're in the act of massacring the Ultima IP...

No. Just no. Go fuck yourselves, Mythic.

Not to mention trying to convince EA...of ALL companies to make it? Next to Blizzard, one of  the biggest money whoring gaming companies around. Tells me it will be yet another poorly done, un-entertaining past a month clone like most of the rest of them. Not to mention destroy the legacy of UO.
