i was on WoW for a lil over 2yrs, probably 6mos before cata. changed servers a few times til last fall when i did that and faction changed from alli to horde. taurens still rule. signed on to AP for the free d3, the mount was so lame i put it away n never used it. no matter the server, i have found the biggest douchebags on the internet on that game.
anyway, got beta invite, was cool for a minute, but i kept getting a nagging at the back of my brain, 'wtf is up with this talent tree? this is awful'. the constant dc in beta kept making me think about that talent tree when id go back to live for a week or two, til the dc stopped in mop for a min. but then d3 came out; i had never heard of any diablo before, but i thought new game from blizz, cant be very bad. i got my toon on it to act 2 and never played again. it sucked about as bad as that talent tree in mop. the nagging in my brain kept getting more persistent.
meanwhile the few friends i chose to accept in that game had begun to change; one was a serious alcoholic that changed like Jekyll and Hyde w a few drinks and became an a**, so i had to knock them down a cpl notches. the next wasnt so obvious, but i did notice after a while i kept getting used for escort duty for their low lvl alts while not being offered any compensation; mog drops etc. it was a friend, i didnt expect anything. but the last time i took 4hrs out of my day to run him thru some dungeons he said he only wanted xp, but kept bragging about how nice the mog drops were that he was getting (we were both hunters).
when i asked what i was getting out of this time and effort i was told i was the hired help, get nothing. so i bit my lip n let it go. a few weeks later i got loaded and we were out front of org dueling w a few others; i dont remember how it came up but i told him off, and apparently i was supposed to sit back and be a good peon and not say anything. if you knew me irl his a** would have been bloody on the ground. but arguing on the net is pointless.
i had an rp blog about my hunter for about a month or so they all had seen. i stopped by WoW last week just before my sub was up to tell a few people goodbye, i had enough of the nagging from the talent tree, the same lame leveling it would be, the fact that i was actually paying $180 a yr to do what i grew to hate. and on top of that the people i thought were friends had resorted to creating fake email (with my toons name in it lol) to dump on me and my blog, that they couldnt praise me highly enough for 2 weeks before.
so i went out of WoW intact and with my head held high; i told off and got rid of so called 'friends', asked one i truly liked to look after my Arcturis and he said he would, and just before i slammed the door on the way out, i was honored by their making a fake email with my toons name in it just to dump on me with lies that were so glaringly obvious it just showed me i was doing the right thing. im looking forward to GW2 and seeing many of you there.

Most of the real talent left Blizzard years ago and it's showing now. There are very few people at Blizzard these days that had anything to do with Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Starcraft 1, Any of the Warcraft RTS', or even the original WOW. They are just trying to coast on reputation alone at this point and that never ends well. Blizzard has had their day in the sun and now their dusk quickly approaches.

The funny thing that most WoW gamers don't realize is that some of that talent that worked on diablo 1 and 2, starcraft and Warcraft RTS and made most of the Battle.net formed a little company known as ArenaNet.
Just look at the founder of ArenaNet Mike O'Brien.
Before co-founding ArenaNet, he worked as a company director and a lead programmer at Blizzard entertainment where he developed the 3D rendering engine of Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos and led the development of Battle.net He also worked on WArcraft 2 Tides of Darkness, Diablo and Starcraft, where he, among other things, designed and created the MPQ archives used in all Blizzard games after Diablo.
Yep, half the good devs over half a decade ago left to form Arenanet, and the other half left Blizz to form Carbine, which is why Wildstar is my other mmo of choice after GW2, and why Blizz no longer produces anything of interest to me, I now realise what I loved of their games was due to people now producing what will likely be my next favourite mmos. This allows me to fondly remember old Blizz titles, separating them from projects like D3, SC2 and MoP which I wouldnt play if you paid me.
Just have to face it WoW is not WoW anymore, It's a different game all together. Whats past is past.....It's now a lobby game.

A lot of the Diablo 3 fanatics don't seem to realize that the creative people that brought us Diablo 1 and 2 left years ago and founded Runic Games as well. As much as they love to bash the Torchlight series it's more of a spiritual successor to the Diablo series than Diablo 3 could ever be.

This doesn't sound like anything specific to WoW. It sounds like you attract drama and are attracted to drama. GW2 won't rid you of finding immature players or having your time taken advantage of by others. You need to manage those things yourself by making better choices with the people you socialize with.

you are wrong. as soon as i started it i saw how childish little punks most were. video games are supposed to be fun, but so many of them took it so seriously that they literally hate you and get their little 'cliques' poking at you too, if you dont agree with them or do what they say. i did meet many people i liked along the way, and the last server i was on, which is where all of this story came from, there were many more mature people than i had found on other servers, which is why i was there. and ya, i know gw2 will have the same types of people, you cant possibly be stupid enough to think i dont know that and would be using this as an excuse. i didnt even read up on gw2 until end of july, and i had already pretty much decided i was quitting warcraft before then. things just happened to come together rather nicely.
this had nothing to do with my social skills. the cpl of guilds i was in before i made a bank had decent people, i simply had things i wanted to do on my own that didnt need these people with me, and i didnt need anyones help. but if youre not in a guild with a bunch of people you are looked at strangely if you dont constantly raid with them, or go out front to duel them, etc. i wasnt into raids, where you do the exact same thing day in day out until you finally beat a boss. mobs are in the exact same place, you do the exact same thing every time; theres nothing special about that. you know how to repeat the exact same action around every corner and know what to expect every time? yay. doesnt get any more boring. i was hardcore pvp, theres absolutely nothing predictable about that; and because i didnt raid, i only started getting some semblance of respect, because few knew me personally, after i got my 100k hk ach n title. so im supposed to be a predictable little 'l33t' raider prick and hang in a group of them whether i like that or not like everyone else? pfffft.
i never asked you or anyone for any advice, so that you can shove. this was 100% experience in warcraft man. i have a life, and im on video games for fun, not to get my blood pressure raging because little johnny j***off is mad at being grounded and takes it out on his game.
To be fair, just from this little section i would have to agree with one of the previous posters that you seem to attract and enjoy drama for whatever reason and WoW would be a perfect breeding ground for that kind of behaviour if you are so inclined.
You have probably made the right decision in leaving the game if you were not enjoying it, but again as has been said already, if the behaviour pattern follows through then you will find little peace in any MMOG.
As with my post here, people within the games are no-one to you really and their opinions only count for as much stock as you put into them so the best move in these cases is to just take it for what it is, leave it behind and move on to something more productive or enjoyable as all you achieve by dragging up past bad experiences is wind yourself up and airing them on a forum like this is license for others to add to it.

No offense, but i think the problem exists between your chair and your keyboard. Ingame, you sound like the door-mat kinda guy, just having himself being bullied around, while you're desperately trying to do away with image by going for some random e-thuggery (bloody pulp, took em down a notch ...)
Also, what is the average age of that guild of yours? 12?

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Who cares? No one at ArenaNet had anything to do with WoW, so why would WoW gamers care?
Vanilla WoW is the best game Blizzard ever created (yes, even including Diablo2) and probably the best MMO of all time imo, and no one from ArenaNet had anything to do with it.

You had me there for a moment. Somehow I knew you would end up with this. For some reason all the GW2 fans have the burning desire to come and tell us how much WoW sucks and how much they don't like the game and how GW2 is sooooo amazing.
Then your post was followed by a gazillion other GW2 fans who never miss any opportunity to tell everyone that GW2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WoW. OF course this was followed by all the other posters who say that all the good people from Blizzard left to form company x, y, z, a, b, c etc......................... Going by all these forums posts there are 100 companies with Blizzard employees.

I've thought about this for years and I've come to think almost the same thing.

Trust me that this sort of thing is all over the place. Everybody pisses in everybody else's pool. I hate it and I understand your frustration. You do have to realize though that when you want to back the star fighter, that fighter needs to take down the champ.

Blizzard's A-crew was reassigned to Titan a long time ago. The ones currently working on WoW are just low ranking developers making silly content for a silly playerbase willing to accept what the game has turned into.

Basically Denambren is saying that none of your mentioned problems have anything to do with the game World of Warcraft and entirely the people you associated with. The way you type these posts with a complete disregard for the shift key and overuse of the comma key in addition to the specifics provided, I agree with him totally. You either are attracted to drama or are the catalyst for drama around others. Many of your problems you described could be alleviated by a change in your behavior. Your distaste for raiding in a guild could be avoided entirely by joining a pvp guild. A desire for compensation for running guildmates through instances is either unfounded, unrealized or easily avoided by not doing that activity.
I also agree with Tenkousei as being spot on. I can't agree more.
It wont matter what game you choose, the communities will eat you alive if you let them. Hello Kitty Online might be an exception, you can try that and report back. Otherwise learn to stand up for yourself, avoid putting yourself in stressful situations or avoid associating with people that don't improve your experience. And believe it or not, improving your writing will attract different people.
