And thats the thing Brevik has not been sucessful after Blizzard North was shut down, his only success came when he was being helped along by blizzard.... so technicly he is a loser :p  When as Jay Miner over saw the biggest selling PC game ever.

Yeah, but he D3 sold 10 million copies because of the reputation of the franchise Brevik helped to create, not because of anything Wilson did. So Wilson was really standing on the shoulders of his predecessors.

Wilson helped bring D3 to market. It would have been hella difficult to sell ten million copies if there were no game. It's bad form to play back seat driver to a company you abandoned years ago.

Come on, you know as well as all of us do. The hype was incredible. The ads were numerous. Hype alone can carry sales and the fact that it had the name 'diablo' and 'blizzard' also helped sales. Heck, many people ordered it without even playing a single bit.  Box /digitalsales are thus not a good indication of whether it is a good game.

The real test will be the inevitable next expansion. Expect the hype machine to work overhours again to hype this expansion into the heavens, but do not expect recorcd braking sales again.

Funny how people have been making the same predictions for years and it hasn't turned out to be true. You would think people would at least stop repeating them until it happened.

From now on those predictions will be based on facts. -The quality of D3... That is a huge difference. And people will learn how important a companies good name and reputation really is. To sacrifice that for some fast sales and to hype one game was a mistake.  Jay Wilsons latest comments made it worse... I think Blizzard needs to question if he is fit for that job. It was not very professional....

The quality of D3 is very high. Don't get quality  confused with design just because you don't like it. As for the rest, once again we shall see.

You're confusing your opinion of D3 with the objective truth of it.

Regardless, Blizzard could have puked in photoshop and animated it a bit, and sold it in a pretty package - and it would still have sold millions of copies because it's called Diablo and it's by Blizzard who made WoW. WoW vanilla was partially created by Blizzard North, by the way.

There's no way to establish that D3 sold well because it's a great game.

The comment was deserved in my book but still such attitude is not professional and stupid, by doing so you only get on a level you are bitching about.

The interviewer baited and manipulated Brevik into being unusually frank, if you watch that video. He gave his honest opinion when asked - and that's a lot more valuable than some PR bullshit that's so common in the meaningless media saturated world we live in.

    Nope.

WoW started as side project of Jeff Strain (he did work on Diablo 1 but is moslty known as the guy who programmed StarCraft editor)  and a few other guys, who back then were big EQ passionates and wanted to recreate the feeling in Warcraft universe. He left after disagreement about business model and along with Mike O'Brain (guy who designed .MPQ format) and Patrick Wyatt (lead B.Net programmer) they started ArenaNet.

Blizzard North big four was David Brevik, Bill Roper, Max and Erich Shaefer (who created Runic after leaving Blizzard North)

Seems I've been misinformed, then. Thanks for correcting me.

There's no way to establish that D3 sold well because it's a great game.

You need to re-evaluate the meaning of the word quality. Minimal bugs among other objective criteria make it a quality game.

There is no way to establish D3 sold well despite not being a great game either.  Which is why I never said either way.
