Anyone got link to the fake developer video?

was trying to find it for a friend.. it's the video where the guy talks about how they put all the money into the trailers and how all the cool crap in the trailers you can't do in game. Then at the end guy off screen says game will be released in 2011 and guy says were all doomed.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

The earlier Blizzard videos were stuff you could do in-game, just on a much higher graphic level, either showing stuff you could do (cast spells, gather magic before a spell cast, or druid shape shift, etc) , or stuff that was assumed to be done (like a graphical depiction of gatering motes of mana).

Later x-pacs they moved into more story, with a bunch of emotes and stuff that were in game also.

But for general gameplay, they didn't show players doing stuff that was outrageous, not that I saw or remember seeing.  Stuff that wasn't in-game, like calling down lightning, or causing a flood, or building and decorating a house ... or making trees fall with the force.

Yeah, WoW you at least could do what was shown in the video. Perfect example is Vid#1. It showcases stuff classes can do and YOU CAN DO IT INGAME. With SW TOR, indeed the fake video was correct, you look at this fancy pre-rendered animation and its great, in game you cant do shit! You cant block lightsabers with hands, you cant cut enemy lightsabers, you cant crush a tree on them and certainly a 10v10 jedi fight doesnt look even remotely close to that trailer, neither does 2v2 jedi duel.

See this is why I think sometimes people really grasp at straws to criticize this game, and I don't even play it anymore.  I can watch a couple of those videos and pull out things that really aren't an accurate representations of the game itself.

    Video 1

    2:04 - giant caster pet

2:34 - Never seen a fight in WoW that impressive looking

2:45 - Hunter pets aren't really that big

2:53 - Never seen a character block a weapon with his or her staff

    Video 2

1:53 - can't pull arrows out of my body

Point being, they are cinematics.  Cinematics are rarely ever representative of actual gameplay, and those WoW videos certainly don't look like actual gameplay either.

Sorry, but you are just 100% wrong on the Video 1, so I  have to debunk you right there.

2:04)  The warlock is obviously bowing down in this frame, and the camera is in the bottom-up perspective, which makes Infernal tower over the warlock. But anyway, in game Infernals are indeed big and proportions ARE preserved in video compared to in game. Look here: http://toddnoe.com/infernal.jpg

So yes, this video exactly represents what you can have in game. You can have even more - warlock can summon Doom Guards which are even bigger than an Infernal.

2:34) "Impressive"  is a subjective term. And of course cinematic is more impressive, but thats because effects are better (not blizz fault that PCs of that time couldnt display such effects in real time, only in pre-render), camera isnt moving (cant let your camera fly around like that when you're the one who's controlling that mage).

Everything you see around this timeframe can happen in game (ogres do brag and roar, they do swing their bulky clubs, infernals do climb mountains and mages do throw fireballs with their hands)

2:45) Giant pets ARE present in game. You can enlarge your pets, pets have skills that enrage them and that enlarges them, you can just have big pets like Devilsaurs.

And this is again camera perspective - dwarf is standing further back and bear is leaping at the camera. Dwarves are of small height by the way, smaller than humans! So yes, this is very accurate representation of what you have in game. Proportions are preserved.

2:53) Well you didnt pay enough attention or didnt play WoW. You can't "block" with staff but you can "parry" with it and yes animation is played when you do it. This is exactly what happens in the video - parrying with a staff. Block happens when you use a shield and animation is played too.

Keep in mind i'm not a fan of WoW nor do i plan on playing it ever again. I dislike what WoW has become and plan on playing GW2 when its out. I just cant stand by and let lies be spread. You have to be objective, no matter if you like or dislike the object itself.

[mod edit] Even if you say you say WoW lets you do everything you see in those trailers, it looks next to nothing like that in-game, and you're speaking only on the most basic level.  Who honestly cares that I can't use the force to chop down a tree?  I can use the force to small my opponent with a boulder.  I'm pretty sure Sith have force lightning, and I'm pretty sure you can move while being hit by it just like in the fake trailer.

    Um, sure.

You remember the SWTOR trailer where it showed you a bunch of Imperials flying to Coruscant on a capital ship to engage in Open World PVP with RvR implications. A couple of hundred players spontaneously going at it at the Jedi Temple.

    http://www.swtor.com/info/media/trailers/deceived-cinematic-trailer/

    The trailer is appropiately named.

SuperXero89, YOU were the one to bring this matter up when commenting on a video made for comedy purposes (not a strict critique).  The guys you responded to were simply pointing out that you were incorrect.

If anyone was nit-picking it was you.  I mean, you went to the effort of referencing several WoW vids...   did you not understand that the SWTOR vid was for lols?

  • IstrebiteIIstrebiteI Member Posts: 266
SuperXero89, I know its ego involved and such, but you're grasping at straws here. Just admit your point was wrong and move along. I mean, its true, YOU started to argue and YOU have provided those videos as examples. And they prove a point that SWTOR trailers were much more far away from what you can do ingame, compared to other game trailers, like WoW trailers you gave as examples. Its not your bad that SWTOR did so with trailers, man!  Facts speak for themselves.
