I think every expansion WoW releases, more and more people get bored faster and leave. I know I have been talked into coming back for each expansion by friends, and me and my wife both get bored sooner every expansion. GW2 has offered a lot of my friends and guildmates an alternative that was non existent the last couple of expansions and I know the core of our WoW guild will not be purchasing the next one. Now I know I don't speak for all but I can speak for about 10 of us and that is the general feeling regarding the new expansion. While a couple have some doubts about GW2's lack of raiding, we are all excited and happy with what the product has shown us on the BWE and can't wait to leave leave WoW with some fond memories and no more visits.
I don't think GW2 is going to kill WoW in any way and honestly I don't want it to. I'd love for GW2 to wind up being more difficult than some would care for and even a game that some don't adjust to and go back to the game of their choice rather than sitting in GW2 and bitching to anyone that will listen how they think WoW is better because of reason A,B,C. If WoW goes away, a lot of unhappy fans will look for a new home and I shudder at the thought.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
Well, GW2 will not be the end all for WOW or any other subscription based game. But it is a sign of thigs to come. Yes I will play GW2 and enjoy it until it runes its course as all games eventually do. For me, I played WOW several times and it has already run its course.
So the obvious choice for me is play GW2 now and see what is comming down the road. What I am almose sure of, the down the road game will be more like GW2 than WOW.
Good read, by the way.
The one thing that makes me devoted to GW2, and will NEVER return to WoW, is that GW2 is designed to help foster a courteous and helpful community.
With the kill sharing game design of GW2, you won't have people going fricking apeshit, when they accuse you of kill stealing, after you help them out with a tough mob.
WoW players suck!
Originally posted by P4YB4CK <imo> WoW will always stay on top because it's got the years under it's belt and it has staying power for it's subscriber base. The only thing that can topple WoW is WoW itself for now. Players are just giddy on the new mmo on the block called GW2 and still remains to be seen if it will stay popular as months go by or when the honeymoon comes to the end. Will ANET keep pumping out content for GW2 as fast a subscription MMO also still remains to be seen, however since it's B2P, players will just hop in and out of the game while they play their other favortire mmo. I will take advantage of the B2P method when I decide to play GW2, however I don't see me investing any money after I buy it since it has no subscription.
GW2 has so much content at the right level...you can relive old stories unlike WoW where the low levels become nothing after max level. How can you expect them to give more content when it's not necessary at all?
WoW: Pandamonium is going to be the Pokemon killer.
I don't, I think they purposefully set it a month after the GW2 launch for a reason. Look at it like this, when a new mmo/game comes out you are all excited and its all you want to do as time goes by you get less excited, find things that annoy the crap out of you and look to do something else.
A month is more than enough time for this to happen. There will be some bugs at GW2 launch maybe even a major one and that's where MoP comes in fresh content new race/class and pretty much solid stable content.
Me i'm not buying GW2 yet, can't afford it don't really care for it either (and I am definitely not forking out like I did for SWTOR without a free weekend/free trial) on top of that I have a wonderful WoW guild and i'm just not ready to quit yet.

By fresh content you mean the same things but with different skins right? I ask that as a frustruated ex-wow player who has had enough of wow (nothing against you man).
WOW will be releasing patch 5.0.1 real close to GW2's release. The patch will contain a lot of the new things which wow players will be excited about; I think this move was wise on wow's part (maybe even desperate) in order to mititgate their losses of players leaving wow for GW2.
As for the release, I believe that MoP will be the worst selling wow expansion since Vanilla. Though there are theories and charts for every taste, only time will tell.
See ya'll in WVW! cheers!
lol Blizzard has the recipe that everyone wants. Even "failing" WoW utterly destroys every MMO out there.
It has been 2 years since I played WoW but I am thinking its time to visit again after playing through the lackluster beta that was GW2. All the COD kiddos love GW2 for its mindless zerg. I can tell the kids that post here because of how much they /think/ GW2 is an RPG. It is a canned game made to produce very fast results - nothing wrong with that.
It is what it is.
I did my 3 years in EQ, 3 in DAoC and of course went on to WoW, Vanguard, CoHeros, AoC, DDO etc etc etc. I am a gamer. An MMO Gamer. These compititions are great, but as gamers (not cell phone owners that think they are gamers) we as the community need to be open to the diversity that is the MMO genre.
I agree with the people that say WoW will be strong in 5 more years. Possibly longer. It is more then a game now; it is a basement full of boxes to @8million people. An atic full of old school book reports and paper mache planets. WoW is grandmas house and a bowl full of old mints.
When (if?) Titan ever comes out, it may well be the first real migration from one solid game (WoW) to a new home (Titan). This will be the equivilant of moving earths population to the Mars. Hats off to Blizzard if they can do it with even a 50% success rate (4 mill subs to a new game anyone?)
"GW2 is the Methadone to WoWs Heroin."
Its fairly simple, WoW will continue to be the 800lbs gorilla and will continue to hold the #1 market share .. period .. nuff said!
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
