It all stems to a job listing that specifically wanted developers with flight sim and free form flight experience,   this job posting was by Lucasarts not Bioware.  I know 2 of xwing v tie and JTL's devs are on something at LC so expect a secret space project from Lucasarts perhaps but not SWTOR.

    Got a source for that?

The new Bioware is not about taking risks, and what people read into with 3-D space flight may simply be wishful thinking.  The risk would be how many new & returning customers would find a feature like this attractive, versus those who would just keep subscribing regardless of any new content.  Bioware was so fickle about non-WoW progression, non-WoW gameplay, and even SGRA (Same Gender Romance Arc's), that they tread over them so lightly to make everyone happy, while not doing anything at all different from other companies.

In Erickson's quote, he talks about details of implementation with pixel space, which is something to discuss only if it relies on enhancements to older features.  The core of a brand new feature was never touched on, which makes the notion a little fishy.  Viral misinformation rampant on the official forums may be what is going on here.  Viral misinformation is legit, whereas misrepresentation in official statements & interviews is not (hence why they are often times so elusive to the press).

That said, I would be very impressed if a risky new gameplay mode was implemented, but nothing so far seems to indicate this.  The few details released indicate it's essentially more of the same, to me.  Part of game retention is the Coming Soon (tm) approach, indirectly promising the world, just to keep the majority of players from unsubscribing.

    quoted from the interview

In the future content trailer we saw the addition of a new space combat mission named “Space Station Assault.” Was this the secret space development you were talking about?

    No.

    Something different?

Yeah. It’s a very exciting space mission; it really feels different from the other ones. The flavor of the feel is very different when you’re trying to race through the middle of a space station and all that stuff. But it is at the core an evolution above the space game as it is.

What we’re talking about in the future is revolutionary. We’re talking about a completely different pixel space.

A different twist. Is that something we’ll see this year or next year?

    Here or there.

    Somewhere around. Stay tuned.

The future is always in motion.

-These guys dont know what they're doing. This year has been an utter disaster for bioware

Doesnt really get much more clear than that.

Whether or not it ends up being good, or ends up being what we expect/hope for, or if we see it any time soon is another issue, but they are working on something for space that is completely different to what they currently have.. not just more of the same missions.

You're right, it doesn't get much clearer than that.

It's just another space mission. But it's "exciting" and "different from the other ones". Still just another space mission.

Not sure what you're getting at exactly - did you read the entire quote?

Yes, I read the entire quote carefully.

He describes a space mission, using the most lavish adjectives and hyperbole that anyone could possibly use to describe a space mission.

But it's still a space mission.

Nowhere does he say it's NOT a space mission.

If you ignore the opening words: "It's a very exciting space mission", and only focus on the later bits where he waxes lyrical about how it is evolutionary, revolutionary and a "whole different pixel space", then you might lose sight of the fact that he's talking about a space mission.

    Not a whole new game.

You can't possibly be that bad at comprehending this quote. In the portion you're highlighting, he is clearly referring to a space mission... because he's being asked directly about the Space Station Assault space mission! . In the description he's talking about flying through a space station: "The flavor of the feel is very different when you’re trying to race through the middle of a space station and all that stuff."

The very last line of the quoted interview is the only line referring to their new space project.

^ This, you're really not understanding the quote SpottyGekko, hence why i asked if you read it all. Yes, you're right, he talks about a space mission, he THEN talks about the space project.

    What a bullshit deceitful post.

Clearly, the "space project" was meant to be more significant than this. However, I don't feel particularly secure that we'll ever see or hear about it. If anything, they either cancelled it - or are putting it on hold until they see how popular F2P becomes.

However, that's just guesswork. The OP "guessed" something and made it out as a fact. That's deceitful.

This was their biggest omission.  It was so dumb of them really.  The one thing they could offer that WOW couldn't.

This was the other side to the coin of wrong design: They should have had dual-avatars: Character + Ship.

    YAWN!

Pretty much guessed it would be this and not fully fledged space as in SWG, STO, EVE etc

So what Bioware is doing is taking all the early easy space missions, and offering you a "hard" version for lvl 50's...????

Exactly! To us it is pathetic, but to EA/Bioware it is really super awesome!

Are you subbed to TOR? and are you using all you energy to try and bitch your way to a new SWG?

It's Lucasarts hiring, but at a time before 3-D space combat was being taken seriously by EA, because they believed their game as-is would be a runaway hit (article is September 2011).

Even if they were placing people on the Bioware team for EA, there is no indication what game the job posting was for.  Maybe it was to create an extra 10 revolutionary minigame rail shooters for TOR ..  Maybe it was for a different title all-together.

But the timing of the article seems off.  Too many "maybe's" lol

this is so vague, it can mean anything, and its not legally binding

a smokescreen to confuse the public, and a morale booster for the player base

maybe this is the famous sssp, maybe not, we can only be sure , when they deliver something different

but note, he speaks of A Space mission,,as in ONE mission

There will never be space combat beyond the rail system in place today. It is time for everyone to FINALLY realize this. What people seem to want is a whole other game...this just isnt it nor will it ever be.

SWTOR has appeal to some people in its as-is condition. They will feed those people and thats it. They have a minimal staff working on this game as it is. Where will the man hours or investment come from to make all the changes you people are wanting to see?

well, if it was successful, then EA would put more Money into it

seeing, how fast they pulled out the Cash, to get the other star wars rights, they do have lots of it

and, thats how you gauge the success of a game

success= the devs will reinvest, and other games will copy

no success= devs will stop the moneyflow, and the game will go in maintenance mode

Well the latest is just in from the last Cantina roundup!

Whatever the hell that means, since still nobody has seen it or know anything about it. lulz?

"The SSPP (Super Secret Space Project)  is awesome"

< bullet #5 is in light blue above >

RotHC was also going to be the biggest DLC in history .. and patches in early SWTOR would be frequent and worth a sub, and class stories would be continued .. and, and ... sigh chat bubbles were taken from beta because it would lag / crash the game then, and still does to this day ... "We're working on chat bubbles!"  ... ugh ... so take what EA says with a healthy dose of salt.

edit: EA did finally put sitting in the game, although you have to buy the chair from the Cartel Market .. and the chair is summoned; when you sit its an emote.  The existing chairs?  non-sittable .. good job EA for coming through! :P

    yeah what an information.

I was at the release event in germany  2 years ago and we asked: how will be the endgame. Answer: wait and see it will be awesome....

I hope the SSPP will be awesome in a different way.

You do realise this relates to nothing more than a content update for the existing space game right?

You do realise this is in no way connected to the SSSP?
