Forbes rips into EA.

EA must of cost someone at Forbes to make a bad investment. Forbes isn't even waisting Vaseline on this one.

Forbes hit the nail on the head,   the truth stings but we all been saying this for months. Now you get a well known financial expert saying the same things we all been saying just confirms what I though all along.

You can expect EA stocks to tank harder after that article.

That was a good read and pretty accurate.

Developers and Companies need to stop making games they think we will like and start listening to us and making games we actually want, then they will reap the financial rewards.

F2P will be short lived and not the answer for any MMORPG, I am calling that now (again).

To be successful in the MMO world, they need to start listening, otherwise players will continue to talk with their wallets and flat out leave.

I suppose there's no point in mentionnning that "Forbes" has nothing to do with this article? It's one of their contributors, and this is how you become a "Forbes contributor".

    1- Have your own blog.

2- Submit your blog to Forbes for consideration; they examine your past articles.

3- If they like your blog, they add you to their list of approved bloggers.

4- You then continue to blog, and Forbes doesn't control your content.

You literally could write an article about the poor quality of corn flakes- seriously -and post it on your contributor's blog. That wouldn't mean "OMG Forbes says corn flakes suck!"

It means one guy who got his blog approved by Forbes in the past says corn flakes suck.

    I know, I know...no one's going to care and I'm just a fanboy, right?

    Figured as much.

Same old. Some journalist called Paul shows up, which is as credible as my old lady neighbour next door, and admits himself he is new contributor to Forbes. Writes an article based only on his own predictions based on nothing solid. [mod edit]

Wut? In denial much? Yeah he's a contributor which means he's not directly employed with Forbes but, oh yeah there's a but. That article is on Forbe's official website, it's not a 3rd party link marked as "See what our contributors say" or some crap like that. Is there a disclaimer at the end of the article saying any views or opinions presented in this article are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of the company? I'm looking but I am not seeing.

What does that mean? Looks like that means Forbes endorses the article therefore any misrepresentation in the article is the responsibility of Forbes themselves. Unless it's the New York Times, nobody but nobody allows unsupported random rants inside their official trademarks. [mod edit]

This is going to be a tough pill to swallow for the people on this forum who only measure the quality of a game by it's profit margin or mainstream appeal, is the game is good? who cares, this is just a bussines!

How sad, Bioware sold their soul, they made the most dumbed down game in the history of the genre trying to appeal to casuals and wow players...

And now EvE, a niche hardcore FFA PVP game with about 434543534xtimes more complexity and 1/8 of it's budget now has more subsribers.

And if SWTOR still has 400k+ subs, just give it 1 month or 2, the mass exodus never stops.

I agree. I hope we return to well made mmos i'm happy to pay a monthly sub for, with enough content to keep me going for a few years. I'm getting fed up switching every few months once I use up all the content, or playing f2p that aren't supported or updated regularly enough.

Time the genre sorted itself out or it will be dead within the next few years. I'm losing patience playing so-called mmorpgs.

    Good read. Very insightful.

It pretty much validates what we have all been saying for years: EA is the Devil.

They take good game companies, buy them up, and then enforce their methodology on them to ruin games.

If they actually listened to their customers, or the game studios they have purchased because they make good games things would be a lot better, they wouldnt be the the most hated company in the world, and we would have some decent games to play.

Instead they completely ignore the advice of the devs and what their customers want and let PR make the big decisions about game development which leads to them making games that look like they are good on the surface but are in fact completely unfinished and rushed out of the door to make a quick buck, and spend money they should have spent on the game on PR to make people think its good,

the trouble is they dont make game they think we like, they do a very subpar game and coat it in very thick layer of sugar coating!so people buy the cover once in we re all like wtf?

like massive!never put this as a discription if it isnt massive (battle wise)you ll get burnth!its a multiplayer?then just say its a multtplayer your title will probably be more popular for it why?because tiptoeing on semantic is a salesman tactic that is a sure way to get your company hated!good luck coming back after ward!ho you will have sold 2 million of x y z title but when you want to sell next title ?you wont even be stared at no mather how your formulate your new lie!

some people love lol, some other love f2p other love mmo, other mo,dont beleive me?go ask the skyrim dev?they didnt say it was a mmo or a mo ,they said it like it is ,its an rpg!and it sell!

I don't play this game, so I have no opinion. I get into SW topics from time to time, bacause they often show up on main page.

It's only wierd you are so worked up over something you don't like and shouldn't even care. What do you get from proving the world that this game is a financial fail?

I only know that there are no official reports, so even if the guy was from Forbes, NASA or FBI, he can still just give his personal opinion, no facts. Even best specialists make mistakes in their predictions, and after reading Pauls bio I can say he is no specialist, no sir.

It's just funny. I can go into this forum and spend some time here, if I'll ever want to know anything about the game. But you? Coming here just to write how unsuccessful it is. Wasting time in forum of game, you dislike or have no interest in. Weird.

I have personally been at the bad end of EAs "game direction" stick. SWTOR was only one in the long list of what EA has done to gaming. EA has been b***hslapping gamers since the late 90s early 2000s it is only news worthy information now because the community is quadruple the size it was then.

Seeing EA tank would be the best thing for the gaming industry, all they do is consume the rights to licences so other games companies cant use them.

Well... Seeing all their recent mistakes in 1 article on Forbes official website must suck. Combine that with The Conference Call and maybe the gaming world might lose a few inches of fat this year.

Sorry if it's bad news for you that it's not just some pee-on gaming forum full of mothers pale skinned, obese basement dwelling porn surfers. The flak coming at EA is coming from all directions and your denial has you caught on the wrong side of history I'm afraid.

There you go, more constructive and not just coming across as blind fanboy in denial that the game is in trouble.

Am I any more wierd that you? You felt the need to make 2 post on this topic so why is that any different than my need to create it? We might be one in the same even if we disagree?

Do I need to justify my being here? I will if you so desire but we already started derailing. Meh, I created this topic so guess I can derail it. Shall we continue?

Never read a more biased article in my life.  It's obvious hes an EA hater.

Battlefield 3 did very well considering it is the 1st one that was on all platforms at release.   Console gamers didn't even know what Battlefield 1 and 2 were about it was a PC FPS for the most part.

Also if activision is doing so great why is the majority stock holder who owns 61% of it selling it ?

Indeed, Battlefield 3 did very well.

So well that Dice is already developing BF 4... 1 year layer.

Get ready to buy the same game every year, the new COD with yearly releases, only that now EA will drive it to the ground and kill another great franchise, because unlike Activision, they really don't know what they are doing.

It's an article in Forbes... ea hater? seriously?

Not at all, i found the links interesting, more interesting than negative comments about other posters that flood this forum eh....   You dont need 'reports' to see the share price crashing.

I would absolutely love for EA to burn badly from this, and maybe just maybe they will learn a lesson that games need to be innovative and different and represent a certain risk in trying new things.  From a customers perspective big suppliers are only good if it gives economies of scale - and price is unaffected in this industry.   The gaming market needs big players like a hole in the head.

The mmo crowd is so big and diverse now, developers must start picking a crowd to go after. When you try to please everyone you please no one. You you want to make a PvP game make it, but dont tak on PvE as an after thought. If you want to make a PvE game damn sure dont tak on PvP. These two mechanics do not mix well, and ultimatly water down each other pissing off both crowds. Casual PvE game or Hardcore PvE game same principle. There is a nich crowd out there to fill up some servers for any style of game, and there is a major profit to be made.

I personally want to see another Hardcore PVE game, FFXI was my favorite but id love another challenge like XI. I just wish I had a few 100 mil layaing around, I could make one hell of a PVE mmo, and you know what I could guarantee it would carry 300-400k subs a year for atleast 5 years.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

Actually Forbes has never shied away from pointing shit out other sites (like Gamespot and sometimes even this one) are afraid to, probably because they are ~not~ technically a part of the gaming industry and thus have no reason to sugar coat anything. They were right on top of the ME3 debacle and it's no surprise they're now setting their sights on SWTOR. I figured it was coming eventually.

You're not likely to get much in the way of gaming reviews from them, but where profit and corporate ventures/image are concerned, Forbes is quick to comment.

"Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions."

It doesn't matter if you think he is a shmuck ,he is just echoing everything people in the industry think but are too afraid to say in case they don't get those exclusive that the masses are so eager to see.
