There's an Investor Call coming up for EA on July 26.
I am betting that that the subscriber figures for SWTOR are now so bad that that no amount of 'live subscribption/free trial/free resubbing' will be able to disguise that fact.
So I bet that ACTUAL SUBSCRIBER NUMBERS WILL NOT BE MENTIONED at this call (nor will be in the foreseeable future) except a vague mention perhaps that 'numbers are a little below expectations' or some such waffle.
If by some mad chance, numbers ARE mentioned, I bet the figure will be 800,000. [It goes without saying these figures have received a good old EA massage and the true figure is <350,000]
Anyone else want to bet?

I'm pretty sure since it's a 'call' can't they sort of 'demand' to know the numbers.
But it should be interesting regardless, I must say,
On my birthday! I wonder what wonderful presents EA will have in store for me... : )
It would be great if one of the investors asked about roi return on investment. Now that is the number I would love to hear. We all know were going to get bloated suscription info now that its free to play 1-15.
Yeppers. I think the F2P to level 15 was initially planned to hide the pathetic player numbers. Also, there are a lot of canceled subscriptions with time left until August that will be counted too. I am thinking there is a lot of pressure to go F2P ASAP being applied.
The US destination servers are all at standard status at 5:30 pm EDST. Maybe a few will get heavy or very heavy during the course of the evening. Do any of them ever ding "Full" with a waiting queue anymore?
The numbers will be skewed for two reasons, the group finder/server merge did actually bring quite a few people back(even if it's for a short while) during the typical decline of subscriptions since patch 1.3 came out in between quarterly reports. So while the subs pre-1.3 could've been 500k they may show up as 750k+ due to the influx of brief 're-uppers'.
The F2P up to level 15 is two fold, it allows people to try out the game and EA/Bioware may gain substantial numbers for a couple of months. It is also for future testing of a true F2P model... Any successful business will try and kill two birds with one stone as much as possible, it's a smart decision either way.
So you're saying that if they talk numbers, they'll outright lie. And they won't lie a little, they'll invent a number over double what their actual subscribers are.
I tell you what, I do want to bet. I want to bet that you have no clue what you're talking about, and that you pulled both numbers out of thin air. Unless you have links with evidence to show what the 'true' numbers are, of course, and then I'd be happy to recant.

They've been lying this whole time, why would they not lie this time? It doesn't take a genius to know that the game is dead and there's no way it has 800k subs. I'm sure they'll say it has 1,000,000 subs though when in reality it's probably about 200k subs. Pathetic.
I think they will find some way to say they have 1 mil subs even though it's impossible just from looking at how many servers are left.
And, yes EA will and has lied about the sub numbers from day 1.
I thought this was a thread about some sort of Hutt casino being added into the game and maybe was a first step into creating a more flushed out Star Wars universe.
I'm sad now.
My Guild Wars 2 Vids
Makes two of us. Well, not the sad part but I did think the Casino part was going to be kinda what you mentioned.
Make it 3 of us. That casino represents such a HUGE lost opportunity...
Can they sensor these calls? I'm not sure but, legally can they? I have no clue how investor calls work. but I thought they had to be dead honest with investors. I thought it was illlegal or somthing to lie to these folks since they put up a pretty penny to EA.
Of course they can, everyone does.
For beeing a "subscriber" there is no legal bound definition. They might state a subscriber is someone having an active account, positive standing or playtime left BLAH.
Now everyone, even not active playing Trial accounts, or now permanent "active" F2P lvl15 accounts are "subscribers".
Over 2Million subscribers! YAY!
Beautiful isn't it?
The only number they can't lie is how much money they made through subscribtions. But that may or may not be put into right context where even 50% loss may look good.
Once again, if either of you would like to cite links with evidence of this I'll be happy to believe you. In the meantime you're just spouting random bullshit.
They can lie... but that's called fraud, and it gets you a pretty neat stretch of time in Federal "Pound-me-in-the-ass" Prison.
me four then all the bounty hunters could of hunted those with unpaid debts....
Oh anouther one of these TOR sucks TOR fail threads. LMAO TOR is not going anywere it will be around for a very long time to come TYVM
I guess it depends what you mean by dead. I am playing right now (waiting on some crafting). When I log in the evening the servers are all "Heavy". Also I pretty much only see level 50s running around so these are not free trial players. I am guessing you don't play. . .. listen. . I hate. . HATE. . EA but you can't just spew what you want to be true out as fact.
Lower than expected subs for sure. . dead no. I make this prediction. . no game in the future will ever see WoW numbers. There are too many games and the people playing them will like them and stay. . others will move on. There will be 30 games that run on and on and on and on with 500K subs or less and in the future this will be considered a success.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
I agree with this. No other mmo will have WoW numbers in fact i doubt even wow is going to sustain. the market is getting flooded with mmo's and f2p's which pretty much guarntee's its impossible to see another wow with over 10 mil subs
It has been interesting to watch defenders drop off over time. The venom of your defenses is all well and good, but objectively this game is not capable of sustaining long term play, so it will spiral down into insignificance. SWTOR is only interesting now because of the greek tragedy of its inception and delivery of mass disappointment.
On the official forums, hardcore defenders start to bend in their unwavering support.
It starts with an admission of something: well yeah they should have more armor designs at endgame.
Then they start to see that they have weak arguments (Day/night should not cycle because its a certain time of day in the story).
The next stage is admitting that they have been getting bored.
Then comes the quit rant.
Unless you log in once a week for 2 hours this game is incapable of providing enough activity for anyone to stay around long term. The only reason to stay now would be if you just want to be one of the ones who stayed on. Th whole I'm a Die-Hard meta game.
Survivor of the great MMORPG Famine of 2011
I fully expect that I will likely only play for 1 - 2 months. But that does not mean the game will die. It was absolutely a failure based on expectations. I think in the future companies will have to forget the flash (voiced quests and cutscenes) and go for actual gameplay changes or improvements to be a success. You can't just throw money at something and get a good game out of it.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
lmao your wrong. Why just look at AOC, Warhammer, Aion ETC TOR will become like those other MMO and it will stay around for a very long time to come. Mark my words.
I suppose I must play on the only massively populated server. A lack of subscribers is not an issue on my server. But I am hoping they are getting enough subs all around to keep the game going (And I'm pretty sure they are) because I love the game, as do a whole lot of folks and for it to die off because some of you don't like anything would be kinda sucky to me.
It does confuse me though, if someone doesn't like the game that they were never forced to buy, then why continue to try and push it off a cliff and end a game (fortunately you don't control that) that someone else enjoys? It seems that it would make much more since to go and hang around forums and sites for games that are not finished yet and try and sway their development toward whatever it is you claim to think a game should be.
I never understand the thought pattern of the people that think spending time trying to kill something somehow improves the choices, while never actually trying to contribute to the growth and dvelopment of something new.
