And while you are knocked out there will be those who cannot resist taking advantage of that?  Sorry, I love sandboxes, but the addition of permadeath is foolhardy in any game let alone an open ended sandbox game.   Once most people experience it, they will leave and all you will have left supporting the game is a few die hard souls.  The servers will be lucky to stay up for a year.

[mod edit] Many people want a game with challenge and permadeath.

well, if ya want more info about Salm and whatnot, take a look at the H&H forums and you'll find salem threads.  the gist being said there is that it lacks content.  as well as other "stuff"

now about permadeath?  if it's done right, Damn good Game.  but unfourtantly, with every game(except prolly your really big studio games, and even then they still fall to hacking once in a while) your gonna have the overall "cheaters".  ya know the hackers, the exploiters, etc etc etc.  when that happens then permadeath is not only ruined, but the game it self becomes rather tainted.

    Case in point.

H&H has always been plagued by this or that when it came to exploits, macros(when they weren't allowed) and what not.  but with the old exp gain system, people still cared about thier characters.  With the current Exp system, now people don't have to put in as much "time" gettin thier char to where they want it.  it's kinda like eve(where as you log in to your character, put an item into the curio panel, and then log off, the exp will gain weather you play the char or not.)

People from the H&H community saw this coming and tried to warn.  but it wasn't heeded.  now you go over to the H&H forums and what you see there is the result of what happens when you take the sting away from Perma Death.

You make excellent points. Lack of content in comparison to how much content H&H has, is a complaint that has been forwarded by quite many people. We'll have to see how often the devs push out new content and how lasting that content is.

As for your botting, macros and exploits: that is precisely a major reason for why the devs decided to make a new game rather than just build H&H 2.0.

As long as you all ways have a chance in a fight then it will work well but once you start having a problem of if your guy is not as old and no chance of catching up unless he stops playing.

If that happened then it will be all most pointless playing salem after it goes live. (and before somone says well you can't catch up in eve if you join late then you clearly never played eve as you can all ways have a chance of killing somone who started on the first day)

The "murder" skill is hard to get, it is one of the hardest skills to get and if they do kill you, they will leave evidence that anyone can gather and use to summon the perpetrator even when offline.

The murder evidence can be stored and it doesn't dissappear for 90 days. That is 90 days you got on you to get your revenge through the community and your friends.

Ok the flora and fauna can't kill you and you say they have made it very hard to actually kill someone, then where is this so called challenge?  I certainly don't see any!

You have to remember this is being done by a small indie team,  My guess is the exploits will be many initially and with a small team, support will be minimal at best.

We will just have to wait and see how this experiment works out.

This is sounding very interesting.  Wonder how well it can be played casually though.

I keep hearing people say that this game lacks content.   How can a sandbox game lack content??  The game gives you the tools, and I thought the players were responsible for the "content".

Or do we have a new definition of sandbox game now that I am not aware of?
