Players rubberbanding/lagging/whatever around in PvP...

GajariGajari Member Posts: 984

Last night I was fighting someone one-on-one, and while I was having no lag in the PvE, and I, myself, was not moving around awkwardly on my screen, or lagging with attacks or anything, the other player was just zooming all over the place. He'd be in front of me, then suddenly behind me, then suddenly way off in the distance. It was in no way a fun experience.

Or is there some kind of teleportation type of skill that is just badly animated that makes it look like the other character was lagging all over the place?

It was very confusing and hard to attack, though neither one of us was able to kill the other 'cause we were both healers. While he was running away, I was still trying to take the guy out and shooting him, and I was doing just that but still not sealing the deal, then suddenly he was way off in the distance and I couldn't catch up.

Anyway, I've only played Stonehenge before, and that seemed fine, and this was my first time in the Fusang Projects and this is what happened. Was a little discouraging to say the least and turned me off of PvP for the rest of the night.

Anyone had any similar issues so far?

thats will show your ping. Looks like its you, who got lag.

i noticed that i can move and use skills as normal with ping more then 4000.

You didn't read the OP, the issue is server locations.  No lag gives advantage if you hot a match in say FPS, huge lag gives advantage in MMOs.

This isn't a PvP game but if you have a ping of 4,000 something is wrong. If it was me, I would lag switch it up to 4,000 and you would never lose a 1v1. It isn't a PvP game but can get rank 10 gear very easy from PvP.

I thought of that, though it doesn't make sense that I get no lag in any other part of the game, and suddenly this happened. Oh well.

    Two possiblities.

The player who was rubberbanding was froma  banned region and using a proxy server or lives in australia/nz

Or he was lag switching, the art of purposly creating lag to cause his character drawn character and where he asctually is to seperate, really only usefull on FPS style games or in darkfall type games with FPS style aimed combat.

My guess is that if he was activly pvping that he was trying out lag switching to see its effects in the game...people who legitly lag like that typically avoid pvp.

And no i see no point to lag switch in a tab target game so im not 100% on that assumption.

I already mentioned lag swtich, the reason is distance. The other even better reason imo is jousting type pvp if 2 players have the same distance.

One issue with TSW is a 180 degree attack arch, which is not good for a pvp game esp when assault rifle range greater than all by a lot, but it will still work out to a slight advantage in PvP.

I think the best reason is that in most MMOs, you need to be facing the target to hit people with many skills. Lag switch works best with melee types in tab target MMOs in my opinion.

PvP in Fusang is laggy as hell and often it appears as players are teleporting around. Well known issue.

Really?  well known issue?  cause i've never seen people lag like that in Fusang, since early access till last night.  Nor heard people complaining about this.

I had the same experience throughout Alpha and Beta. I thought they fixed it in Gold though, that sucks.

Seen this guy stream a lot from both closed beta and live http://no.twitch.tv/oddver never seen him rubberband at all though. Saw up to maybe 50-100 people at the screen at the same time, never saw him lagging.

I am in Norway (far away from the US east coast servers) and have 100 ping...

I have heard of people that have problem with their ISP and routing though

The thing is, I don't even know if it would be visible to the person streaming. All I know is that I was moving, firing off abilities, actually doing damage all in real time (our health bars were both going down in unison with the attacks and damage numbers popping up), no lag whatsoever, but the guy was disappearing and reappearing in different areas sporadically and instantly.  I wish I would have been able to capture a video of it.

I just remember lag switching in Darkfall and how obnoxious it was.

I guess it makes sense when there are dodgable skills despite being tab target.

Like i said though, legit players who lag are either standing there like an idiot not being able to move or simply avoiding pvp, which sucks when your lagging legit.

When i see people active in combat when lagging i always thing lag switcher...no other person would continue with pvp under that much lag.
