What class do you think would find more groups leveling up? Would either of them be more useful at endgame?

I have a few existing toons - but after pulling them out realized that I need to re-learn the game, so I thought I'd level up a new toon.

Clerics are healers in Vanguard so if you want to heal the clerics are very powerful healers. Paladins are tanks totally different roles but good tanks if well played.

I wish you best luck in this game wich I find the one of the best mmo's I have ever played.

For the group part it has been hard lately, but it seem like soe might beeing putting some work on Vanguard in the near future.

I play a Pali and have no problems with groups but there are two things to consider:

1 Cleric is a free to play class so there will be quite a few of them when that goes live.

2 Pali is considered the best end game tank so there are a lot of them as well.

Basically with either chouce you will need to be good to stand out but both are fun to play.

Paladin and Cleric are both in high demand both grouping and raiding.

Soloing though is not that fun on either of them. They both have very low dps.

No one seems to have mentioned that there are 5 different types of Cleric within Vanguard. I'm fairly sure Paladins (unfortunately) do not have specializations open to them as a class feature. A Cleric can specialize in many different ways, however, gaining better damage, improved defensive, or even improved offense (yes War Clerics can actually do decent DPS!!). My explanation of the different Cleric types in Vanguard is beyond an over simplification so anyone interested in more concise/concrete information can take a look at the link below.

Affinities do not affect performance that much. A War or Death Cleric still wont be a dps wonder. Admittedly their dps is a lot better than the mediocre dps of a Peace or Preservation Cleric, so for soloing its indeed a change. But not in a "oh now I'm good" way. More in an "okay, now at least I can get close to what a Paladin does" way.

Keep your hands from Purification unless you are sure that you have a necromancer at all times who can make your mobs undead.

War and Death Clerics can get past the Paladin in their special dps modes, but their healing is then disabled, too (practically completely [one tenth] on the Death Cleric and to hardly noteworthy remains [one quarter] on the War Cleric). They have to wait 15 seconds until they can switch back, which might be too long for tough opponents. Its still fun to use, though. And if the opponent can be feared, its even a viable tactic.

Also, especially for Death Cleric, good gear to give magic boost is extremely rare. They are practically forced to use robes for this, unitl they can get Palladium Armor from the Swamp.

Clerics are full healers with full protection. Thus they are the lowest dps class in the game. Be aware of that before you start one.

Are all the affinities still equal as healers for groups?

Like, if i went war or death, does that mean people wouldn't want to pick me up as a healer?

I think Adamantine, whom posted above, gave a pretty decent explanation of the cleric affinities in VG and gave an example refering to the War Caller stance Aspect of the Destroyer (stance): +30% damage, +10% accuracy, +15% block chance. Heals -75%. When using that particular stance you wouldn't be a viable group healer but that doesn't mean you can't just group and use your healing stance. You might run into some gear issues and want to pursue different sets of gear for your War Caller for both healing and DPS though.

Paladins are great solo levelers.  They don't blow through mobs but they are very hard to kill and can keep soloing when other classes have a very hard time.

β€œIt's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

I would start off with a Shadow Knight or a Pali IMO and I am working/boxing two accounts and have both a Shadow Knight and Cleric on one of each accounts and then reverse with the Pali option so I have all angles covered ;) I'm playing on both the EU server and then when I want to group I play on the US server, but would not even bother with the US if there were more playing on EU.

What ever you choose you will enjoy and like you I have had to start all over again on the starter Isle as I forgot everything. One tip I would give you is max out all levels in all three shperes on the Isle of dawn as the equipment you get for this is far better than mob drops early on. Get your self a guild as fast as you can too so that you can find groups and make sure you ask them if they play with lower leve players or don't waste your time.

For me this game is still the best of the old MMO's about as it's not been diluted inot a WOW clone and i hope they don't by making it free to play either if they do then I'll be gone for good.

I assume you mean Dread Knight? as there are no "Shadow knights" in Vanguard.

    To the OP:

To be honest, I have one of every class in Vanguard and whether you are leveling up 1-50 or at end game, group and raids will want a player who enjoys their class and goes that extra step to learn their class and play it well. It does not matter what class you are at all. (some end game raids will require a certain class but there are 24 positions to fill...)

Groups will usually need 1 tank, 1-2 healers and rest Dps, it makes no real difference which tank or healer or dps makes up that group as long as the players all know their classes and can play them to the best of their abilities, they will never have a problem finding a group.

Clerics are a great class but they are super slow Dps and are super slow to solo.

Pallies are the best single target aggro tank currently (not by a great margin though, DK's are very good and Warriors just got a massive boost with a class revamp) and there are more of them than Sorcs (there are a ton of Sorcs), nearly everyone has a pocket Sorc and a Pocket Pally.

My advise, play what you want to play and what you enjoy playing. You will have more fun in the long run and the groups/raids will benefit more from a player that enjoys their class and spends more time getting to know their class due to enjoying it more.
