    Really really.

More value for lifetime subs I guess... I might as well look positively on this one.

Not sure how people that paid for a lifetime subscription = qualified for Beta testing.  Sounds like another Beta test being used for a game demo.

Its probably just a matter of wanting people to play through the game and find what isnt working.

Just so you know alot of us people who have lifetime subs for both Champions and STO were beta testers for both those games. A lot of us bought our subs while we were still in Beta test phase. I've beta tested just about every major MMO that has come out since CoH. I'm happy that Cryptic is giving us a shot and trustig us to give them some feed back. So don't know what you're talking about pal.

To the guy that said that beta tester need to be chosen by computer specs... What you think we don't upgrade.

    Hey Folks,

Just a quick note on this: Please remember that we will be phasing in CBT participants, including CO and STO Lifetime subscribers as the beta progresses. This means that you may not receive Beta access on day one of the Closed Beta Test if you are a lifetime subscriber of Champions or Star Trek. You may need to wait awhile.

That said, I promise you will gain access to the Closed Beta.

    Thanks,

    Stormshade

So even if your a lifetime subscriber, your not guaranteed to get in.

    Isn't that false advertising?

    I think you misread.....

or do you think that because it isn't access to every stage of beta that you think makes it false?

Thats exactly what I think. I have two lifetime subs to STO and CO. But because I don't live within a 10 minute drive of PAX, some guy thats played neither, nor spent his money on either will get in ahead of me?

I suppose its not false advertising. Just poor  customer relations.

this one is a AAA budget game. it will be f2p but the payment model will be just like CO and that is what i am really afraid of. what i hav seen in CO is that those who frequently use cash shop(pay2win players) get more advantage than lifetime or gold users(monthly sub), comparing to trubine or soe this model frm cryptic+pwe is very bad, ultimately just like any other pwe published mmo neverwinter will be pay2win. i hav decided to stay away frm pwe, aeria and fagster games. not goin to change that stance even if these companies publish  a really good game cos i knw they will turn the game into shit in no time.

Thats right kids. For only $199 you can gain access to the beta too. Also access to  F2P game.

Yeah and I bet plenty of people fell for it.

    Again.

I think it's a cool move... I like companies that recognize the people that went the extra mile and believed in them.

What advantage would that be? Since there's no 'proper' PvP in CO, any 'advantage' you get from the store is going to be pretty meaningless. I have never used the store for anything other than the odd costume unlock that I liked the look of and a super-shrinker that I wanted for one of my characters.

They have a few bits that increase exp gain and such things but, again, who cares if someone levels slightly faster? What earthly difference does it make?

If you're worried about advantage in PvP, you really need to be playing a different game. That's not because of the store though, it's because Cryptic were never really serious about PvP and the game wasn't designed around it.

I have never played Champions, but Star Trek Online is a good decent game.  Whether or not those two are worth purchasing life-time subscriptions depends upon the player's enjoyment ratio.  I liked and enjoyed STO until level fifty, and they began that "lunchbox" buy the key lottery method.  Since they never divulge the statistics I think it can be too easily rigged.  I do not play anymore, but nonetheless it was a pretty good game.  I do not mind spending a little money monthly for free-to-play games if it is a decent value.  Offering beta access for life-time subscribers seems like a gracious boon for those that have already done so.  It more than likely is not worth purchasing for beta access alone though unless you were already considering the life-time option.  The current STO option is tempting indeed giving the monthly stipends and other rewards, but that lottery mechanism has had horrid effects on the economy.

As opposed to every other gamer who wants to beta test being qualified?  I'm pretty sure serious testers that can provide professional services have already been chosen and have been testing.

Late beta testers can provide some feedback on what they like or don't like, provide load stress testing, and metrics that a smaller pool can't.  There's not a lot of qualifications it takes to do this other than, 'can you log into a game successfully'.  After that point they're just as qualified as every other armchair expert.

Beta testers should be determined by CPU specs not players that bought lifetime subscription to a game on a computer system they had 3 years ago.

How does CPU specs qualify a person to be a tester?  That would only be relevant with relation to hardware testing and has nothing to do with personal qualifications.

You can still buy permanent subscriber status so it's not just people who bought this three years ago.

What makes someone qualified to beta test?  What do you really think they're after with this test pool?

If you really need an answer to this google it.

I see.  You don't have an answer.  This is a discussion forum.  How about you answer the question or just admit that it was a bullshit answer.

Yeah, well at least people who play STO and CO get a bone thrown to 'em then.  Something to try and take away that sour taste of lifetime subscription regret?

Assuming NWN doesn't suck up a storm..

Advice: Don't buy the lifetime sub!

  • korat102korat102 Milton KeynesPosts: 313Member

I wouldn't buy a lifetime sub now but I thought it was the right thing to do back then. I bought it for CO just before release and I'm happy that I got my money's worth out of it. In fact, I got my money's worth before it went F2P and, with the monthly stipend (or whatever you want to call it), they're more or less paying me to play now...

You see Beta tests are to test the software on minimum spec hardware not the player.  Just stop with your worthless, clueless bullshit responses.

Sounds like a bit of sour grapes to me.  Would it help you to know I have a lifetime sub to one of those games and will not be participating in the Neverwinter beta?  I'm even worse than non-qualified, I'm non-participative!

So basically you are saying that since you have a crappy computer that your grandma gave you, you are a qualified beta tester?

Pretty sure the "qualifications" for being a Beta Tester are:

    1. Have a computer

    2. Have a keyboard for said computer

    3. Able to type on said computer with said keyboard

4 (Optional). Computer is able to run currently tested game

You'd be surprised at how many bugs you can get tracked down by tossing random monkeys at a piece of software. If you go out looking for specifically hardcore gamers or experienced beta testers and no one else, you're likely to miss a great deal of 'for granted' problems. Not that it matters though..because Cryptic (or PWE) aren't really known for their ability to listen to the players. There's STILL bugs in STO/CO that have been sitting in queue since release. I'm a lifer and reported a few hundred bugs during beta..most of them are still pending.

They're just looking to get as many random people as possible to make sure it's at least partially playable..so that they can stick a shop in it and be good to go. Anyone that doesn't realize this yet hasn't played a Cryptic game..or they selectively remember. Not that I blame them..money is money. I still have moderate fun on their games..regardless. I'm not looking for lifechanging events...just boredom passing for a few hours.

Sour grapes?  LMAO.  How about learning what Beta testing is for, but I guess when you view Beta as a free trial you get your response.

You couldn't pay me to test this game after playing their STO casino cash-grab.
