So will PvP save the day?

There are 3 batlegrounds so far, one rather large and entertaining and 2 small ones...  But If thats all, people might grow very tired of it in no time, despite it being very much fun for now. Where is the persistance in PvP

But, what objectives will open world PvP have?

Will they add more PvP options over time to normal servers too?

There won't be PvP, RP and PvE servers. There'll only be that one server covering it all.

Additionally, there won't be any open world PvP. Fusang is not a battleground, but a persistant warzone where you can hop in and out whenever you want. The goals in Fusang are to conquer and defend the points, which are then providing buffs to your faction throughout the whole server.

And this is different from other mmo's because? It's up to Funcom to keep releasing content, which include more pvp zones. Eventually, running around these small maps gets tiresome, so more is needed. Fusang isn't really that huge, so FC better shape up, but they already said they have a second WZ in production atleast

The huge zone is persistent. and holding control of the majority og the checkpoints in there will give your faction serverwide advantage buffs realtime. In other words that buff will jump around depending on who is in control. Pretty good stuff imo. So for me I would say PvP is really fun and really saves the day for TSW... with good margin.

Sadly its does not feel persistent, there are no ways to add to the defences of the capture points, It feels more like a huge battleground.  Maybe they should have added a modern version of keep sieges, and other things like that.

that's really my main issues it doesn't really feel much more than a persistant larger normal battleground nothing really interesting to do.. you just control points but nothing really else to do(that I have found at least). Oh there's are giant monster s you can fight but that's really about it. Wish it was more interesting where you could control hideouts and setup turrents and such also having alternate routes into a building would be fun like going through a sewer or something... just so much could have been done I feel.. oh well see what happens in the future.

Well just logged another 4 or 5 hours in Fusang. Sick meta games going on. Map control is key.  Wells become more important that facilities at times.

I really like that boss in the center facility.  I was like whhaaaa? and then when the Dragon showed up while we were trying to kill him - all heck broke loose.

This is not a pvp game. the two zones are like rift but lamer and fusang is a copy of lotros zerg monster play.

Um no. The facilities are more important as thats what add world buffs. Go fight at the wells while we lock down the maps facilities - Templars.

I just tried PvP for the first time in TSW, didn't get a chance to before today.

I did a an hour or so of FuSang and all I have to say is wow, what a mess! Instant respawns. Let that sink in for a minute. Instant respawns in PvP. Are you trying to take a point? Well, the respawn is right above it and it's instant, so good luck.

Instalock builds. They lock all of your abilities and you can't do anything until you're pretty much dead.

Then you have PvE bosses in a PvP zone. Which in itself is not a big deal, except that the bosses are virtually impossible to take down with a small group, so you need a zerg. Which brings me to my next point.

Zerg. No small group tactics here, it's better to run around with a zerg.

For a persistant PvP zone, it is incredibly tiny. Nowhere near to the epic sizes of GW2's WvW zones. Hell, it's not even close to the size of WoW's Alterac Valley. Probably about the size of Arathi Basin.

There is no thought involved in this persistant PvP anyway. You just run around taking points and killing stragglers. No keeps to take over and defend, no siege equipment, no resources to balance, no caravans to escort to besieged keeps. Just a bunch of zergs running around taking points on a tiny map.

The PvE in this game is good, the PvP is horrible.

Edit: on a more personal note, I don't understand why the templars and the illuminati get cool uniforms and the dragon get a track suit with glow in the dark stripes.

Common complaint, needs to be fixed.

Seen one skill personally that locks abilities, it's a Claw skill and Elite. If you mean Hinders, yeah, you can break or become immune with a proper build.

Virtually Impossible? Unless you consider a group of 4-5 a zerg, it's not.

Zerg. No small group tactics here, it's better to run around with a zerg.

See above point. Sorry that your hour-long analysis didn't give you a better opinion though.

Hard to disprove you without GW2's zone sizes being public info. It's also hard to take you seriously, though.

There are points to defend, but no, this isn't DAoC's zone. If all you do is zerg from point to point to point you will never control the whole map, because a small team can swoop in behind and recap a point or a well.

The PvE in this game is good, the PvP is horrible.

Heard plenty of conflicting opinions to that, but I'll take your hour-long assessment of the system with a grain of salt.

Hard to disprove without public info? It is public info, you can google this stuff as GW2 has no NDA. Each of the GW2 WvW zones are much bigger than FuSang. And there are 4 of them in GW2.

As far as those bosses go, we tried one of them with a group of 7 a few times and failed. So maybe if you have all QL10 stuff, you can take them with a small group but the rest of us cannot.

As far as everything else, dude, the zone is incredibly tiny and not very deep. It's a zergfest over points. There are no tactics and the side with the most players wins. When I joined, all I saw was templars everywhere and because the map is so tiny, you can't even evade and hide properly, you have no choice but to fight and when it's 5 on 1, it's not very fun.

Oh and those "common complaints..." The game is launching in less than 2 weeks and it has issues like that?

You can dismiss my hour long assessment all you want, it's not going to make TSW PvP any better. It's bad, plain and simple and does not even come close to not only the quality of GW2's WvW but WoW's AV and Wintergrasp as well.

Fusang is a horrible zone and not the least bit of fun.  I was trying it out all day today and we had 4 people on our side, I thought we had more because I was talking to a few other people in the general chat then found out they were all templars after I tried to meet up with them and got owned.  My friend who I was in mumble with was in a different fusang, could not get into the same one as him.  The zone is so blah, taking animas for spawn points then trying to take the facility which 4 of us could not even get close, got 2 shotted.  Even if we could take it zone was still blah.  There was nothing about that zone that made me want to fight or gave me a good reason to care.  The main thing this game has going for itis the setting, PVP zones need a lot of rework.  I did try the other PvP zones and they were just as boring.  I was thinking of buying htis game based off the last beta events but they messed up the PvP so bad I do not think I will now.

Honestly not sure if the bosses in the OB were scaled down, but you can't even even enter Fusang without having QL10 gear on release. So assuming it wasn't scaled down, working as intended.

Two weeks to add a respawn timer. We'll see I guess.

The PvP is pretty poor. I was hoping it would be better than it is and get me to pre-order, since PvP is what would keep me playing, but it's not.

Despite what others are saying, the faction with the largest Zerg, is going to control Fushang... just look at templers. Hell I was even part of their zerg, we had 40-50 people and all we did was run laps around the map. We were steam rolling so quick the zerg DID NOT STOP! We just kept running and with all the dps the zerg was putting out, the other factions groups would be dead within a few seconds. And I'm not talking 2-3 people as a group... 12+. Then we'd have 1-2 people as needed to capture a well/facility. Rinse. Repeat.

I've been big on PvP for a long time across many MMO's... all this reminds me of is the crap that was Illum, just add a third faction.

I was a big believer in TSW before this beta weekend and REALLY wanted it to take me in...

You can search YouTube for the videos, if you're not sure of the scope. Also, anyone who has played both TSW and GW2 will tell you that GW2 WvW maps are much bigger x4. But yea, keep trying.

Again, as far as your poor attempt at dismissing my review, FuSang is not that deep. Anyone who has ever PvPed in an average MMO battleground will be able to figure it out in minutes. It's a zergfest point capture which rewards those with bigger numbers, rather than those with better tactics.

Keep trying though. Because there are a few people who haven't played TSW yet, so maybe you'll convince them. Or maybe you're trying to convince yourself?

Hardly a poor attempt :/ Think about it in objective terms without putting your opinion on a pedestal: If someone wrote a serious review about a game's system and prefaced it by saying "I put an hour into researching this," would you take it seriously?

    No.

No one in their right mind would.

You rated an entire system based on your admittedly limited experience on it. And in that limited time frame, you were going against a massive zerg, which is never fun, with admittedly subpar gear, which only exacerbates the issue. Then you assumed that's how it always is and always will be and judged the system thusly.

All I'm trying to convince anyone of is that your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, as opposed to as a review.

.. But in a good way.

It doesn't even take an hour to figure out Fusang. The premise is pretty evident as soon as you log in and becomes even more evident when you run into the zerg that is simply running from one point to the other capturing it and killing everyone who gets in their way.

There is nothing to it. No supplies, no keeps to defend. No caravans and supply camps. No siege equipment. Just one huge zerg, consisting of the most dominant faction, and those who get owned by that zerg. It's horrible PvP. You can dismiss my review all you want but the other posters who have posted between our comments have basicaly said the same thing that I did. Or are we all wrong and you're right?

GW2 PvP is better for the mass scale battles.  That said, TSW PvP is some of the best PvP to be had.  This is not Ilum all over again.  Not by a long shot.  Fusang is nice looking, large and engaging with the 3 factions going at it.

Correction, one templar zerg consisting of 50+ people and 5 dragon and 3 lummie players. The zone is not even large. It takes longer to run from one end of AV to the other than it does to do the same in Fusang.

No, the PvP is a poor mans SWTOR. The SWTOR PvP helped but didn't save the day. By "poor mans" I mean worse, yet it costs more, esp for Brits.

Number imbalance in the high pop zone, just like ilum.

The two instances are bland with weak objectives and do start with population inbalance like the persistant zone.

So many players look the same.  Combat animations lessen the fun.  All 3 pvp mini games are zerg fest, no strat/comm required.

At the end of the day it is the same or worse than what all games have done before.  WoW, Rift, Tera, SWTOR, Aion, and others had the same thing or better.

Today the only thing that will save TSW is advertising as they need to sell 1.3 million boxes like they said they will do.

The reason it was so Templar heavy in Fusang was becasue everyone was playing the templar characters they created during the first beta weekend. I seriously doubt it will be this lopsided after launch and everyone roles the factions that they want and not just the one that was made available first...

I'd not be surprised if the faction imbalance persists after launch. Both the Templars and Illuminati are "classic" secret societies, and have featured in many books and movies. They are part of the popular culture. But Dragon ? Who's that ?

The fact that London seems to be the most developed city in the game doesn't help either. It has the largest map, most interesting and varied buildings and contains the player bank. It's also the HQ for the Templars, so play as a Templar and you never really need to visit another city for your ingame needs. Play as Illuminati or Dragon, and you'll be travelling a lot more.

The faction buffs from PVP are a cool idea in theory, but if one faction dominates at launch, many players will roll characters in that faction just to get the buff advantages, and then the death spiral starts...
