I don't think Blizzard themselves could really pull of a new Wow.

For one thing had most of the Wow players never tried another MMO before trying Wow, for Wow 2 to give you the same feeling it would have to be really different from all other MMOs and it wont be.

And Blizzard today is not the same Blizzard that released Wow and Warcraft 3, Wow 2 would have the same real money auctonhouse as Diablo 3.

Wow was most likely your first and we all have a special feeling for that game (mine was Meridian 59) but sequels rarely do well in MMOs. Take Asherons call 2 or Everquest 2, AC2 flopped and EQ2 never took over after EQ.

The exception seems to be Guildwars 2 that is really different from the first game, but I don´t see Blizzard doing something unique, they never had.

List of all Blizzards game: RPM Racing[6] 1991 Racing video game
Battle Chess (Windows and Commodore 64 ports)[29] 1992 Chess
Battle Chess II: Chinese Chess (Amiga port)[29] 1992 Chess
J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, Vol. I (Amiga port)[29] 1992 Role-playing video game
Castles (Amiga port)[6] 1992 Strategy video game
MicroLeague Baseball (Amiga port)[6] 1992 Sports video game
    Lexi-Cross (Macintosh port)[6] 1992 Puzzle video game
Dvorak on Typing (Macintosh port)[6] 1992 Educational game
    The Lost Vikings[30] 1992 Side-scrolling video game
Rock n' Roll Racing[30] 1993 Racing video game
    Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye[29] 1994 Mahjong Solitaire
    Blackthorne[30] 1994 Platform game
The Death and Return of Superman[30] 1994 Side-scrolling video game
Warcraft: Orcs & Humans 1994 Real-time strategy game
Justice League Task Force[31] 1995 Versus fighting game
Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness 1995 Real-time strategy game
Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal 1996 Expansion pack
The Lost Vikings II 1997 Side-scrolling video game
    StarCraft 1998 Real-time strategy game
StarCraft: Brood War 1998 Expansion pack
Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition 1999 Real-time strategy game
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos 2002 Real-time strategy game
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne 2003 Expansion pack
    World of Warcraft 2004 MMORPG
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade 2007 Expansion pack
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King 2008 Expansion pack
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty 2010 Real-time strategy game
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm 2010 Expansion pack
    Diablo III

Note that Diablo 1 & 2 were made by Blizzard North, not really Blizzard and they all got fired beside Strain that they moved but quit and started ANET.

Blizzard do have great programmers and are good with knowing what their fans wants but they never been really original and all their sequels have been very close to the original. Wow 2 would be a slightly different version of Wow with better graphics and I don't see that taking over after Wow.

When vanilla WoW was announced it really brought little to nothing new other than it combined and tweeked many of the best features of the existing games of the era into the warcraft universe..

IMHO Anet is riding that same wave of creative thinking as a once hungry blizzard did so long ago by mixing things up and bringing something fresh and new combined with many excellent tweeked ideas that already exist in various games and applying them to the GW universe..

Wow is a phenominal game that is far better than any of its wannabe clones and GW2 is the next game with a pioneering spirit and could be what wow was in that era..

Until we know exactly what it is titan means nothing to me but its not likely it will be as successful as WoW mainly because actiblizz is just not hungry for anything but profits..

    Playing GW2..

Signed, however, WoW 2 is not allowed by the Federal Trade Commission.  You see, it has been realized that if WoW 2 is released, that every other crappy mmorpg developer will be without a job, and that's unfair trade practices under the same laws that regulate conglomerates.

In other words, you can't have just one giant fish in the sea because it eats everything else, especially the smaller fish.  Hence, no WoW 2.

I just hope that Blizzard learns from all the mistakes of others and themselves as well.  People keep forgetting the reason so many go play other games is because they are truly tired of the WoW formula..  WoW was a perferct storm for a new genre of players.. It won't be repeated again.. Atleast I hope not..  I and thousands of others, if not millions are DONE with WoW, why would we want WoW 2?

    1)  make mobs harder so that they can't be solo'd 99% of the time..  and change the agro so that you don't LOSE agro if you only run away 20 yards..

    2) allow mentoring, so that you never outlevel any zone.. or friends..

    3) change raiding to much harder boss, but remove the cap limits..

What we need is for people to realize that if it wasn't for the fact people have attachment for wow from way back when, it wouldn't be so popular. Look at games like Runescape or Everquest 1 as an example. Despite their age they are still rather popular. The biggest factor that has left then going strong is people had spent good deal of time at them. WoW fits just perfectly in a niche where MMOs were starting to get big. Lets be honest, if WoW was released in its original state it was in today, it would be considered pretty much a massive flop like SWTOR.  The thing that has allowed it to stay at top and develop was having such an incredibly tiny amount of competition compared to today with the added benefit it was blizzard doing the game.

There are plenty of games being released that are great, its just peoples expections have grown so crazy that its virtually impossible to ever please them. You can give someone 20 Carrot gold and they would likely thow it back at you and yell they wanted 24 Carrot without even giving it a chance. MMos like WoW are considered valuable to us because its like a heirloom, something so valuable to the player because its been in your life for so long.

Because of MoP isnt good enough for you, what in the world would make you think WoW 2 would be?  You are essentially asking the designers of something you dont like, or something not good enough for you, to make a game for you.

Boy yea.  Thats gonna work out really swell.

Actually I said vanilla WoW and those devs are all working on Project Titan, maybe you should do your homework b4 you bash people. Makes you look really bad.

    Titan perhaps.

TSW is, from the beta running today, totally unfinished and not ready for release.

Tera is great, beautiful and fun, but just limited due to its overt pedophilia and late-game grindiness.

SWTOR was wrecked by Bioware's incompetence, arrogance and PR scamming.

GW2 might also work as it has enough WoW in it to appeal to WoW players, but also enough other stuff to make it fresh and new. It's a solid compromise for people wanting to "transition" to a new MMO.

    *Facepalm

Note- Don't pay attention to Greyhooff's posts.

No offense, I love Tera personally and think it deserves much more success, but I've showed the game to many friends both gamer and non-gamer and 90% of them thought the Elin were basically sexualised little girls, and found it not offensive exactly, more "in poor taste". Most of them laughed. The ones with daughters didn't.

I get anime, I've watched a fair few over the last 2 decades and know a fair bit about Asian cultures. I know the difference between kawaii and lolicon. I know that in Japan specifically, attraction to pre-teen girls is a common proclivity, and despite pedophilia being illegal, enforcement is poor and underage sexualisation is rampant.

Say what you will about the Elin being a "non-sexual fairy nature species" or whatever - it's basically hentai children.

I think they should have just removed that race from the character selector, then Tera would have had a better shot in the west. There are other issues with the game, but even if all of those were all solved a pedophile-friendly character choice makes mass market success impossible for Tera, no matter what the minority of anime aficionados think.

    1) EQ2 came out before WoW

    2) LoTRO is modeled after AC3 which was changed into Middle Earth Online, which we know as LoTRO, all ages before WoW became popular.

To me... the WoW of today is already like WoW 2 compared to what it was at release. I never want a WoW sequel. Any changes that they'd do in WoW 2 can be done through expansions.

Wasnt trying to bash you.  Sorry if it came across that way.  Just trying to make a point.  I dont think you are stupid person or anything like that.  I dont really know you.

Regardless, maybe Titan will suffice.  If Blizzard were to make a new mmo, Id actually prefer they shy away from the swords and fantasy stuff a bit.  The industry is flooded with that stuff.  Sometimes, just the premise or setting of a game can pull people in.  Players are desperately wanting more space type mmorpgs, and there's not too many of those really.  There's also a whole host of other world types and settings the industry has barely touched on or not at all.

Like an old west mmorpg, there's some apocalyptic ones, there's one vampire themed one being made, various historical mmos.  There's just a whole host of other universe types that are just waiting to be made into a game.  I have a feeling Titan may not be a swords and elves type game.  Thats probably wise.

not really. Some things are deeply programmed into the game. remember the issue Blizzard had with simply changing the backpack size?

WHAT a smart remark... +10000 for you..

Person don't seem, to get that Blizz is in no rush release a product that might kill its own product... They say WoW might go FTP in the future, that future i think is when there other MMO launches.. Have the TOP FTP game and maybe capture those same WoW player base with another P2P MMO, and let them coexist...

Aside from an art style and graphics that actually manage to stay up to par to the standards of 2012 expectations?

Gamers always ridicule the importance of that aspect of MMO's, but audiovisual quality is THE driving factor for failing MMO's. Sorry guys, graphics matter. Especially if you want to out-WoW WoW.

Oh I agree graphics do matter.. but in this generation, it's all about flexibility to be able to play on affordable machines. What Im saying is that Blizzard make it playble for everyone.. unlike some other companies don't. The higher demands they put on rigs, the less playablity they'll get. Just an observation.

WoW 2 would probably do well.

I'd never play it, though.  My trouble with WoW was not the gameplay or graphics; it was the lore and environment.  I personally dislike steampunk, and to make it worse WoW had a ton of immersion-breaking elements purposefully mixed in.  So, if a f-ing motorcycle in a fantasy-medieval game wasn't dumb enough, they had "PWNED" license plates or "BLIZZ" flags on them.

Why would we need a WoW 2?

community was terrible in Wow and the gearbased treadmill is a big nono in my opinion. Hate it when they do something like that...

No need for another ugly behemoth to mess up another decade of mmorpgs that all aim for being the "best clone". A monopoly in a market always destroys the market :(

What we need is for fewer mmorpgs. Let the crap ones die and have only 5 survive.

I wholeheartedly agree with the statement.   Quite frankly, even though I had dabbled in some MMOs before, such as City of Heroes, WoW was my first proper MMO because it felt like a *world* that I wanted to explore and loved being in.  To be honest, it was just an exceptional game and if Blizzard could make WoW in 2004, Imagine what they could do today......

  • quseioquseio Member UncommonPosts: 234

I personaly  am hoping they dont   totally fuck up eqnext i cant stand wows art style and not because of the steam punk thing go read monster hunter series they mix fantasy and orcs and shit perfectly its not steam punk but it sure aint pure  classical fantasy id call it  Modern fantasy.

Realistic with just a touch of flaire a non nnanyized mmo would fit a nice nitch slot i think

WoW is unkillable...even if Blizzard released "Titan", WoW will faceroll it.

well my american friend, maybe the engine as it is will do fine we only know when its been tested with something else that dont look my little pony adventure cartoons, yes and i know this is the style like it is at warhammer but nobody says it cant be changed out of the box of cartoonish to little bit more realistic.

I just feel like alot of the users have grown up since then. EQ2 gives you the option of two different types of graphics on character models, don't see why WoW can't. I think it would be a neat feature that would help the longevity of the game, sure its all about gameplay mechanics, but lets be honest, it doesnt hurt if a game looks great either........well, unless your vanguard at launch and noone can play you. (amazing game by the way, just got into it and really liking it alot.)

I can see a wow2 happening. Wow1 took current mmo designs and used/improved them. Gw2 Dynamic Events, Teraish combat, ff14 graphics, and tsw 's "levelless" system. Rap it, call it wow, rise of the ratmen.
