Star Wars: The Old Republic: v1.3 Now on PTS

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

BioWare has announced that the 1.3 version of Star Wars: The Old Republic is now live on the public test server. Players helping the team test the "Allies" patch will be able to get hold of two custom titles for their assistance.

There are two titles* that you can earn from helping us test our Group Finder tool, they are:

  • Strike Team Specialist – In order to get this title, a player will need to complete four different pieces of content (meaning Flashpoints, Hard Mode Flashpoints Tier 1/Tier 2 or Story Mode Operations) using the Group Finder tool in a single day OR eight different pieces of content within seven days.

  • Strike Team Commander – In order to get this title, a player will need to complete four pieces of content in a single day AND eight pieces of content within seven days.

Read more about how to access the PTS on the Star Wars: The Old Republic blog.

The blog says it's version 1.3, not 1.03.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

Does it have a real space game yet?

Instead of fixing the game, we are going to give you 2 new titles instead, Enjoy!!!

the scary part is the amount of replys about this. truth be told, the mistake these guys made was a space game with no space or much starwars in it.

It was the classic blunder of SWG as well. a space game with no space until the first expansion.you can't call the starfox thing i tried space combat. it been said enough.

Not enough starwars stuff in the game. it seems more like Wow with less content and a better class system. don't get me wrong I would cut my own sack before I would go back to Wow and be forced to buy PO xpac.

But BW devs need to get the games training wheels off and let us go where we want. not much virtual in thier worlds.

At least SOE had the balls to left the Space part out of it and release a solid sanbox ground experience. Then work on the space part and do it right!

Bioware wanted cost what cost a Space game during launch and fecked it up royally!

Instead all the dev time they spend on that, they could have improved the ground game instead to make a better game for launch! Then save the Space game for a paid expac down the road.

2 titles for helping fix the game by testing their fixes on the TS.  Anyway....

I read the patch notes for the test center and I must say, it's looking pretty good.  Of course, I thought 1.2 looked good but it was a bit small.  However, just being able to finally join groups with the push of a button will open this game up some more and make those tedious levels of solo side questing go away, along with some nice xp perks in areas you  like to play.  Me, I'm putting my xp boosts in class quests, exploration and space missions first.  If can level up via those 3 means alone, I would be quite happy to stay subbed to this game for alts.

The push on the button will not give you any groups on 99% of the dead servers atm.

They still need to merge all the servers to create "healthier" populations to even make this Group Finder work! Instead of level50 groups only. /shrug

Free server transfers coming in 1.3...so that will help.  I know it helped Rift.  After they make that possible then they can decide which servers to turn into trial servers or merge empty ones.  Game just needs work and once noticeable work is put in and word of mouth gets out, I'm sure many folks on the fence will come back and fill a few servers up again.

Edit:  Nevermind, stupid bioware is pulling a WoW again.  Origin server to destination server....so my separated characters may stay that way since I can't choose which server I want to go to.  Idiots.  Hasn't Rift shown you people how to implement a service like this?  Man.

I would imagine a lot of third-rate MMOs have patches moving to their test server, without comment from MMORPG.com, so it's not clear why this is a story. Perhaps this patch is testing the tools to move the last players (Ohlen's relatives & friends?) over to the few, remaining servers?

Well i'm not to confident it will get a warm reception a bit like the E3 presentation,i bet that guy wishes he had a hole on stage to jump into !!

After reading through the patch notes I can see a lot of fixes for things that greatly annoyed me during my play time. While 1.3 won't cover every single thing that the game needs to add, it does look like it is a really good step in the right direction.

The entire theater clapped, just letting you know. The press conference crowed was a quiet one this year for all presentations.

Game Update 1.3: Allies has a lot of great new features, such as the Group Finder tool and Ranked Warzones, to name a few. One of the big focuses for us in testing this Game Update is the Group Finder tool and as such, we want to help incentivize our players to hop onto PTS and help us test it.

Dude, you may want to try to re-focus your mind a bit about SW, SWTOR and "space" .

I mean of course has SWTOR space travel, which you'd know if you'd ever gotten off the starting planet :-P

But is it "I sit down, I check controls, I make jump calculations, I fire up the engines, I watch stars streak by for the next hours" space travel? Nope, because I bought a MMORPG not a space flight sim.

Yeah, but what about all the space fights in SW?

Do me a favor and watch the SW movies again... and then take note how little space combat there actually is in 'em, and also that most times it's intercut with other locations.

These ain't now Howard Hughes Hell's Angels movies!

So yeah, the space combat is just a tacked on minigame... so what? I wouldn't have figured my Trooper to go on a dog fight mission with his assault ship anyways...

Not sure what you're complaining about. You and the 5 other remaining SWTOR players got exactly what you wanted. Enjoy it.

They did not  fix healing, the overly generic healing system, or any of the other main issues I was concerned with.

    No resubs here.

Still playing the game and yes the space turd sucks.

BTW 1.3 is just bug fixes and a not even well made LFG tool. Almost forgot: augment tables... sure stll not even as convenient nor gives as much freeness as an appearance tab. And another... money sink!

No but they have said recently that they are working on spcae content that is nothing like what we have now, and is seperate from the new missions that are being released soon. They said they cannot comment on any details about it yet, so one can hope SWTOR's JTL is in the works.

The free transfers are coming before 1.3 goes live.

I was about to post this -- group finder won't help when there are 3 people on the planet!

It's a sad joke that SWTOR biggest problem is the lack of multiplayer activities outside of instancse...seriously, a group of 15 year olds could have made a more interesting game.

This is to little to late IMO. As soon as I finish my JC story I am unsubbing.  Been playing GW2 beta and its everything SWToR should have been and its got no sub. Even if ToR was as good as GW2 I cant justifiy paying a monthly fee any more. The MT they have are not even pay to win. As it stands I am sick of ToR classes and factions being unbalanced. How do you mess up balance on mirriored classes?

Ask the devs of Warhammer whom did the pvp side of SWToR.  Witchhunter and Witch Elf or Bright Wiz and Sorc come to mind instantly.

    BOOYAKA!

At this point i don't know which is more amusing, the FACT that they still can't copy decent chunks of characters over to PTS to actually...you know TEST the group finder in an area where it matters.

(Seriously no one needs a group finder for lvl10 H2 Black Talon or esseles tested)

OR the fact EAware stated multiple times they give a F* about PTS testers and only their internal metrics have all the data they need?

Either way, the group finder is flawed and bad design currently, like someone again thinks he is smarter than the WoW / Rift devs, - fully expect it to be released as such.

Edit: the design flaws will stay.

"planning for enhancements to Group Finder in future releases"-

    1. planning, yeha like uh i plan to conquer the world someday.
    2. future releases, yep why do i even bother...
