It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
1.Half-life (giving birth to Counter Strike which became the giant of online gaming)
2. Unreal Tournament (the standard for twitch-base shooters)
3.Starcraft (setting the standards for RTS)
4.Everquest (the game that most mmorpgs are based off of today)
5. Warcraft 3 (inspiration of Dota and the birth of the Moba genre)
In no particular order:
EQ1 - Best MMo of all time, especially in the early years
Wizardry 8 - One of the best kept RPG secrets....Too bad the company went under
Daggerfall - The 2nd game in the ES series was alot of fun
Master of Magic - Another pretty well kept secret
Master of Orion 2 - Great space game
I could not pick a personal best 5 myself. There are too many good ones out there.
My blog is a continuing story of what MMO's should be like.
1. EQ - Nothing will ever compare to the feeling I had when I first stepped into the world Norrath.
2. Dark Age of Camelot - Mordred PvP Server..nough' said.
3. Half-Life - The game was freaky as hell! Not to mention counter-strike..
4. League of Legends - Massively addicting gameplay.
5. Fallout series - self explanatory
I'm aware that others game before LoL..I just think LoL did it best.
There are two kinds of people in this world. People who pick their nose.. and liars.

why post then? lol.
Top 5 isn't descriptive enough... but the top 5 games that stick out in my mind as game changers were:
Quake because it was a huge first. Quake was more than a shooter, it was a platform that allowed players to create content.
Quake 2 improved on Quake and was perfect in a way that the following games have not been.
EQ if only because they proved it could be done.
Of course there were a lot of great games before these (Wolfenstein, Doom, Duke Nukem) but PC games didn't really start to shine until the mid to late 90s.
1. Neverwinter NIghts
2. Diablo 2
4. Guild Wars
5. FFXI Online
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!
Other amazing games:
Doom II, Starcraft series, Diablo , System shock, BG2, Witcher, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, Freespace 2, Dungeon Keeper 2, Fallout 1&2, Farcry.
Hell i can go on and on. PC gaming is amazing.
I. Majesty - It was the first PC game I bought.
II. Pajama Sam 3 - It was the first PC game I remember playing.
III. World Of Warcraft - I've spent more hours than I can count in this game.
IV. Runescape - It was my first MMO.
V. Age of Empires 2 - My first real RTS on the PC.
So many great games on these lists. Funny how people have different tastes, which with all the flames and arguments we sometimes seem to forget.
Some of my faves:
1.) Half-Life 2
2.) World of Warcraft
4.) Dawn of War: The Dark Crusade
5.) Portal (1 or 2)
I loved all games that I played, there is not only a single game that I didn't like.
So I'm going to list the 5 games that took the most out of my lifetime:
1- Counter Strike 1.6
2- Warcraft III + exp
3- Diablo 2 + exp
4- Battlefield 3
5- The Sims 1 + all exps
2. Half Life
4. Baldur's Gate 2

5 Duke Nukem 3D
My top 5 would be,
oh yeah and the monkey island games are awesome.
of all time? ? ?
Definatly none of the ones listed above :P
if u want to say 'prettiest games of all time' or 'best story' etc, sure, but best games of all time(Sorry to upset the younger folks) would be the oooooold classics (IE pacman, space invaders, etc)
Even today people strive to beat the highest scores, for 30-35 years
Not a single other game can compare to just how long they have been 'played'
Others since have sold more, simply because games have become much more accessable to more people than ever before, but even then, the old classics are still reproduced over and over on each and every platform.
personal top 5
3. Heroes of Might and Magic 3
4. Baldurs Gate
5. Mission Thunderbolt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_Thunderbolt
Kickstarter: Stuff I'm supporting
1. Star Wars Galaxies pre-CU
2. X-COM (UFO: Enemy Unknown)
3. Jagged Alliance 2
5. Baldur's Gate 2
EDIT: If Red Dead Redemption would ever come out on PC, it would be right there on No. 2 spot
NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs

Ummmm sorry but age and amount of time something is played dosn't make it good. They were the best option around at the time but both pacman and space invaders are incredibly boring lol
Gnome Wankers two. After the events of 18/07/2015 i fucking hate anyone that has anything to do with skyforge
