DayZ - Zombie RPG Survival Multiplayer

A lot of talks are going on currently with DayZ, with really a shitload of full servers...maybe 150-200 servers currently. Lots of fun with atmoshperic gameplay. You have to eat and drink, find weapons, can build vehicles, joining factions i.e. outlaws/bandits and so on...controlling areas and fighting zombies, character is saved on main project server. All this in a really huge open world. The world has a day & night circle, and its really that dark in the night...you can get torches, flares and stuff no worry + a good portion of adrenalin kick. Probably the best multiplayer expirience you can get currently with a zombie & survival theme.
The crazy thing is, due to this mod Arma 2:CO is the top selling game currently on steam....O_o, dayz itself is free. Almost 50.000 characters are already registered in the game stats with growing numbers, wheras the mod developer thought it would have success with just some hundreds.
The full package Arma 2: CO is around 24$ bucks on their main page arma2.com, same price like on Amazon/Steam. Arma 2. OA is available for 12$ on gamesrocket.com which you could play with the Arma 2 free version, but the free version has less graphic details. Better get the package.

Since Arma 3 will be released this year, Iam sure with such a big echo from players this mod will have a compatibility patch. Iron Front: Liberation 1944 is another release with the same engine, looks promising aswell for those who love world war 2 themes with a more realistic damage model for the tanking combat...

I recommand the sixt updater, its the updater most are using in the Arma 2 community:

With this software you update all the needed modifications from the servers you want to join or the mods you did select. With this updater you can also join the multiplayer military games and not just dayz. Game offers a lot more than just the Zombie mod, check it out. It has a lot of useful features. If you only want to play dayz the mentioned dayz updater is more simple.
I have all the files downloaded from DayZ website but the combined ops was purchared off of amazon instead of steam - will the updater still work? Either of them?

For me this six-updater seems terible it don't work very well doing strange things, so i keep my simple DayZUpdater works fine for me.

DayZ is allright. I am having way more fun on TCG Island Life though. It's the best modern day sandbox I've played. They are also working on an apocalyptic sandbox too.

Been playing this and have had a lot of fun.
Will be great to see where the mod goes.
Six-updater will work with Steam version of Arma2. Six-updater itself is bit weird to use first but very powerfull at the end. Mod is OK, seems like big problem is corrupted server admins that are kicking players out to make room for friends. Unfortunatly devs can't do anything about this and problem will get worst if servers are full all time.
I cant seem to get the Worrom DayZ updater to work.It keeps saying Java not found on my pc but I have had Java for along time and always keep it updated.I even reinstalled it from this applications prompting which sent me to java's install page and still I get the same message from worrom saying Java not found do you want to install it.
As far as the game goes it seems I spend the most time in it wandering around lost in the dark which pretty much kills trying to find supplies so i end up just logging off.I thought for sure it would be light out on a west coast server seeing that it is 11am and the other times I tried were in the evening, but noooo it is still dark so really not having much fun.
I had "the same" problem with Worrom Updater, but I believe what was causing it was that I had the 64-bit version of Java. Though I might be wrong.
As for the night time - I haven't ran into that problem myself, but I do really hate the way day/night is cycled in this game. I'm someone who plays mostly during the night (in real life).. so if I want to be on a server within decent range I'm mostly going to be on a server that is at night. So, for my sake, I hope he makes the cycling not in real time but in short periods. Because while night time can be fun.. it's not something I want to do every time I play.
