I find Rift's events to be more fun than GW2's events, but I find GW2's quest to be more fun than Rift's quest.

Over the weekend beta, did anybody else get that impression as well?

Good for you.   I found the Rifts to be the same thing over and over and over and over.   Plus, unlike the GW2 events, they were not really tied to the local.

In GW2, an event is relevent to the place you're at.    It has a direct, local, tangible tie to the world and helps bind you to it.   And you have many options with in the event to help that doesn't involve some 'holy trinity' act of tanking, dps or healing.

With a Rrift...   The green ones give you the green monsters...   Red, gives you red...   Etc.    Doesn't matter where they happen, on a zone-by-zone basis  they're pretty much the same thing over-and-over again.     Even worse, they more Zerg-fest spawn points than anything else.   Just an excuse to drop a monster generator down and have at it...    It became very tedious, very quickly as they kept interfering with my questing.   Especially when they spawned on the quest objective and every thing I was supposed to kill/harvest.farm was dead thanks to the hordes of people at the rift.

That's why after 3 days of an incomplete GW2 I'm pretty happy.   Everything I did felt CONNECTED.

And why after 3 days of Rift I walked away.   And I don't mean 'old rift.'  I mean the new one.   The game has a great environment...   But the rifts were tediious zerg fests at spawn points that were constantly getting in my way and I really became disconnected with the game as what I was doing always seemed so pointless.

I 'm not sure what you are talking about, so I guess I'd have to say no?

For me, after experiencing Heart tasks and Dynamic Events in GW2, I just can't see myself playing a quest hub based MMO ever again. So, has GW2 made quests like Rift's quests obsolete? Yes.

If you are trying to compare Rifts and Invasions to GW2 Meta events and other large scale Dynamic Events, I give GW2 an edge there, even after acknowledging that things probably get a lot more Epic for GW2 at higher levels and as rarer cumlinating events occur. Rifts and Invasions are all alike, just with a different enemy plugged into the formula. It's easy to get to a point where you start avoid Rifts and Invasions, because they interfere with questing. In GW2, you never want to avoid events, in fact, you tend to get sucked into them, even if you set out with some other goal in mind and DEs are much more diverse. Dynamic Event Chains further distance GW2 from Rifts as many DEs spawn new events, depending on the success of failure of players.

Rift had the right idea with Rifts and Invasions, but the game was a baby step, where as GW2 is a superhuman leap.

I'm pretty sure you are alone in this.  Rift DEs are extremely boring except for the 6 or 7 raid rifts.  The majority of them are kill X in a small area where X is a bunch of MOBs with no special abilities standing around waiting for you to aggro them.  Next phase do the same.  Last phase kill one elite MOB (again, usually with no notable special abilities) that dies in about a minute or less.  Rift had a few meta events too which are a bit more fun, but I still think GW2's meta events blow those out of the water.

Not to mention GW 2's combat is leagues better than Rift's which makes it all the more fun.

pretty much this, as well as Rifts hurting your gameplay if you are unlucky enough to be wanting to access a town that is being attacked and you are alone.. tough luck for you.

I only played rift the first month of it's release, so I can't speak to it's current state.  Rifts got old and boring fast, same with the group of enemies that would beeline for crystals and pwn noobs.

Rift events feel like doing the same thing over and over, whereas Dynamic Events do not, so no. Rift's events are not even close. Not sure what you mean by quests though, as GW2 only has personal quests. Not that they are not awesome or anything, but comparing Rift's quests to GW2's quests does not make much sense. You pretty much have to compare Rift's quests to GW2's DEs. Rift quests are garbage anyways.

I have to say I disagree. I assume you are basing this off the 1 event in the Norn area that everyone is making video's of. In which case its the SAME thing as rift events. Kill stuff untill you can kill the "boss". But I can tell you to search harder for GW2 events. That one grawl/sons event was not the only one available this weekend and imo it was the most boring.

However if you are talking rift events as in the regular rifts that happen? Then you are just being silly since GW2 questing is an improved version of rifts and that IS the questing. GW2 "events" go beyond and could probably even be compared to raid rifts in rift.

I found Rift to be boring in every way.Just blah.

Played Rift for 9 months. Did just about everything that could be done up into some of the major 20 man raid zones.

Not a big fan of raiding, the raid rifts were fun, but since you spawned them there was no concept of them impacting the world.

Invasions on the other hand, could often be a lot of fun, especially the more complicated invasions. It took months though for Rift to even get to the point for these to be implemented correctly.

With GW2, I've only played for 3 days, so its not fair to compare boredom over rift with excitement over GW2 at this point, however I see a lot of potential in future GW2 events, they can easily ramp things up, and only having experienced a few starting zones, I'm sure there are more events to come. The nice thing about GW2 events is they can never interfere with your quest because they are your quest. The other nice thing is because you scale down much more correctly than Rift ever figured out, it should make it more fun to continue to do events at level 80 even if the event is level 10.

I thought Rift's rift events had a lot of potential, but several issues really made me not enjoy them:

    1.  They were all basically the same.  Rift opens, kill monsters through stages, rift closes, reward.

    2.  They didn't scale with the number of players.  Almost always the Rift was either nigh impossible because you didn't have enough people, or super easy because you had too many.  RARELY do you ever find a Rift that actually seems challenging.

    3.  There was no "downleveling" of high level players.  This was really annoying because high level players seemed to CONSTANTLY want to help you with your level 12 Rift.  Thanks, but no thanks Mr. level 50...I really don't need you to one shot all my Rift monsters.

Invasions had potential as well, but the same problems apply.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

The amount of trolling & flame-baiting knows no bounds. I guess this is the best he can come up w/, now that the beta forums are down. He is getting better at posting things that are just out of reach of the banhammer, though.

I think to experience rift in GW2, you'd have to stay at the same outpost for the whole day and defend it against waves of mobs. That's really all there is to Rifts. I think the majority of players agree, Rifts were fun when they started, but after completeing them four or five times, they became redundant.

GW2 offers variety, albeit not that great of variety, which Rift doesn't do. I can defend an outpost, and walk a simply two minutes down the road to do an escort. This escort leads me to a small village where I then have to keep the road safe by cleaning up traps and barricades. By the time this is all done, the players are now beginning to assault the mobs who attacked the first outpost. These are all different in their own way, and are all very real examples. These events are simple and will not take you on great adventures, but they lead you around the maps, where you eventually... find more events to lead you to other maps and on and on.

The only problem with GW2's system is that you tend to miss a lot of stuff. There are times when you open the map and observe that four or five events are taking place across the entire zone. You now have to go and chose one to participate. If you're lucky, you can help most of them, if not, tough luck.

I actually enjoyed the invasions in Rift.  The actual rifts were pretty uniform in that they did a lot of the same things. But to be honest, that game would have been better if they had focused almost entirely on the Rifts. Instead it feels as if the Rifts and invasion events are just a side show.

GW2's PVE has their events as the basis of the whole experience. I really think we will start to see that as we level up in that game. We don't see it so much at early levels as they wanted to ease us in so to speak. But I found that when I went into the next areas (15+) the events started to be more prevalent and became more of a focus.

As far as quests, I'm assuming he is talking about the Reknown hearts.

World events in RIFT are not fun when you have done the same ones 500 times and are just doing them for Inscribed/molten etc.

I wish they would make more of them as there just a bore now.

This really should be in the rift forum. Since its a troll against GW2 and praises Rift, maybe the moderators could move it to the appropriate forum ?

    On a side note ......

Why is it ok for all of these passive aggressive Troll posts to be constantly posted day after day ?

Yet when i answer a guys question, i get a warning that my answer is a troll ?

Everyday its multiple posts from the same people constantly trolling the GW2 forum.

I get it, you hate GW2, please just move on and stop attempting to belittle a game you dislike.

Why are you here if you hate the game so much that all you can do is denegrate it ?

Disclaimer: wanna bet i get another warning or a suspension, even though i did not single out a particualr person, other than quoting the OP.

Hence my suggestion of blocking. The only downside is that when someone I block keeps making these bait threads, I still see the topic and pop in. While I could take one look at the post creator and avoid the thread, I do enjoy some peoples opinions and perspectives. The problem with certain people is they have been baiting long enough to know what is skirting the edges of the ROC and they are getting good at playing the victim when people call them out. It'll only result in warnings from mods because for as long as I have been a part of this community, the OP has been creating threads like this and nothing has changed although it is pretty clear the intent. To avoid conflict, use the block feature. Some people aren't interested in discussions, only drama.
