Blast from the past...

So I am currently playing Tribes:Ascend and Path of Exile beta.   I have played several characters to max level of the content and have gotten as much enjoyment out of the game as I can considering the characters will be wiped.  So I was looking for something to give me a fix for a week or two waiting for Diablo 3 to release.  (Say what you want about D3, but regardless of how good or bad it will be, I have ALOT of irl friends and family who will be playing D3... so that is the massive appeal to me.)

So, to get that temporary game fix, I decided I would dig out my old D1 and D2 cd's and give them a playthrough, just for kind of a blast from the past nostalgia type feel.  And upon popping the Diablo 1 CD into my computer, I found it quite halarious what I saw on the setup menu.

Just goes to show how old Diablo 1 was in terms of the computer and internet age.  I was 11 or 12 when I purchased Diablo 1.  My dad stopped by a tire repair place to get a hole in his tire patched up after I had purchased the game.  So I sat in the chair at the car shop with my Diablo 1 box in my hands just staring at the pictures.  My next door neighbors had been playing Diablo 1 for a few weeks so I knew first hand how awesome it was.  It was my first real Gamer's Computer Game.  Before Diablo 1 all I had played is educational shit like "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" and "Spell It 3".  So that's what I mean by Gamer's game. :)

    Without the internet, imagine what would happen to porn?  Unimaginable.

We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Ahh, I remember our telecom company implementing a fixed phone rate for dial-up internet just around the time Diablo I was out. You can imagine what that meant to the gamers among us. :)

    When I think of Diablo 1, I think of:

    * The Butcher (one of the mobs that scared me most on first encounter)

    * The Voice of Deckard Cain (poor man's Connery as your guide to the inferno!)

    * Matt Uelmen's music (wonderfully atmospheric as always, I dig his BC music for WOW, too)

    * Cow Level (OMG shut up I've seen it! :P)

    * Wirt (poor poor thing)

    * Bow of Zest! (yeah, yeah, totally random; I just love its name :P)

    * Diablo (get him off me, get him off!)

    * Ears galore! (oh, the Bounty Hunters channel, trafficking in ears on an anti-PK mercenary campaign!)

    * Duping (come on, you tried it at least once! :P)

    * Cheats and cheats-for-anti-cheating! (Yep, a plague upon online Diablo: Full Invulnerability; PK InvuInerabilitiy; Invisibility / ghost players; Town PK, you name it...)
