Tera is a fun game and a polished one. Combat, as othes have said, is amazing.

Those seeking in Tera only PvE content, will get bored pretty fast. Note that all the comments here talk about boring questing and grind.

The true potential in Tera is the PvP. The political system, the open world pvp, no factions, the guild wars and battlegrounds later on.

Those who enjoyed L2 drama back in the day might understand what I am talking about.

  • VikingGamerVikingGamer Member UncommonPosts: 1,350

The thing about TERA is that it is simply fun and great looking. I enjoy the combat, so much so that I often kill more of the mobs than the quest requires. If there was any grinding it would be fun because the combat is fun. The characters, gear, environments, mobs and architecture looks stunning.

Will it last? I dunno. There are max level instances, politics, nexii and someday server vs server so hopefully it will keep a person entertained. But even if it doesn't you can enjoy TERA like a summer fling over seas with a stunning and fun woman that you just met. It might not last but you can enjoy the here and now for what it is.

While I'm not going to be playing TERA, it does have great graphics and combat and I do hope that those who purchased it, have a good time.

SWTOR is still a piece of crap in term of performance (Loading screens everywhere, low FPS).

Let's see if GW2 will fix it before the launch.  But I can tell you that GW2 has less loading screens... a way less.

emm are we on a Tera comments?

I played the beta for a few days and I saw absolutely nothing that intrigued me. The combat was OK, but Raiderz has similar combat and it is F2P.

Guild Wars had almost as many performance issues and bugs than SWTOR did in beta.  It is FAR FAR FAR from being polished, SO very far.  I know its a beta.  But it was an unoptimized engine, overflow was upsetting people, story quests were at times bugged, major survivability issues between melee/ranged and this was publically ackknowledged by Jon Peters.  The game is SO far from being polished.  That said, it has great potential and I am still excited for it.  Way less excited than previously, but still looking forward to it.

In terms of Betas/Launches that I have participated in and their respective "smoothness", I rank:

    1. Tera - Ive seen no problems...at all.  None.

    2. Cataclysm

    3. WOTLK

    4. Burning Crusade

    5. SWTOR

    6. Guildwars 2

    7. Aion

    8. Warhammer

whoa what are you smoking. you forget tera has been out for a year or so? Anyhow that is not the point I am responding. For me its your 2nd choice Cata. On release Cata has Loads of bugs, many were grafical and it took them months to fix the stone drake mounts and other things. Wrath was waaay smoother than cata by far. prob because it did not have a grafical upgrade till the end before cata was finally released.

    Thanks,

Well, essentially for me, it kind of feels like Lineage 2 "lite'.

this is not to say there aren't issues. I had no problems wiht the start but I can easily see people getting fed up with being a ranged class and holding down one button with your forefinger to attack.

I think the players who are looking for a slightly more old school game and are willing to get into the 20+ region will eventually see a more exciting type of game play. And if you are on the pvp server you have that added excitement. I am currently trying to balance two characters, one on pve server and one on pvp. But one only has so much time.

The game is old school though. at least the feel of it. I don't mind kill X quests because I like combat. I'd rather kill mobs than craft. But if people are just looking for something different in how the game is put together they aren't going to find it here. Oh sure, the BAMS feel like Monster hunter "looks" (I've never played it just watched videos) and can be very fun. And the combat feels right. That coupled with players runnign around and doing things together (even though one can easily solo quest) it just feels fun.

I don't mind the art design and love it in certain areas. I take certain things with a grain of salt. I love the Eldritch Academy because it's fun in a very silly way. Sort of looks like a "halloween haunted castle".

but one must have a cheeky sense of humor and not be very cynical or else it will all feel too much.

This game has me hooked.  I can't stress enough how impressive the game world looks.  At level 32, I finally got to go to Mistmoor Island and Ostragath (think that's spelled right) last night and WOW....talk about impressive!  The Pirate's Grotto is so cool looking.

I also got to do somthing last night I haven't done in an MMO in ages...an open world dungeon.  We went into the Labyrinth last night and had a blast.  The place is HUGE, too.  Bigger than many instanced dungeons in other games.  Took us about an hour and a half to get through it, and we wiped a few times on Tabruk, who is a pain in the ass.

I haven't had that much fun in an MMO in a very long time.

I didn't find Guild Wars 2 be all polished, did you play a different game maybe (it is a closed beta after all)? Also GW2 isn't really that revolutionary. The dynamic events felt just like they did to me in Warhammer Online and adding a requirement to the dodging system is kind of lame. I don’t know why people are saying that Guild Wars 2 doesn’t really have grind, because the dynamic events basically is a grind in itself, basically they tell you to kill a bunch of things here and there, gather things and bring them to a npc, escort missions, etc nothing ground breaking. Tera is a fun game to play and paying a monthly sub fee guaranties that I will get regular content added to the game overtime, which is something I am not hoping to get from GW2. GW2 hopes to make money from their cash shop (don't say the cash shop is useless), they wouldn't have spent all that time on a cash shop if there was no benefit for them (it comes down to money for any business). Now on to Tera, have you tried to solo a BAM? If you have you will see how exciting that feeling is. Tera has a magnitude of innovative content like their combat system (which is superior to guild wars 2's implementation). It the enchanting system is pretty cool, having the ability to acquire materials for your professions together with your group members is really cool, and also what matters the most at least to me, Enmasse has one of the best support staff I have ever seen, which is something I can't really say about ArenaNet.

Yea there is something about Tera that hooks you in, and I am someone who likes good story and quests, but even though Tera really does not have that it is like an old junk yard dog with fleas that you shoo away but it keeps licking you so you bring it home and the dern thing grows on you. I am still partial to swtor but Tera is a nice change of pace

But it would do some good if people did a little research into the era when side-saddle was more common in RL. Women were more feminine back then and I think it adds great contrast to their being less than modest with appearances.

Which brings me to another topic of similar nature which is that many gamers seem to be overlooking when they are complaining about appearances in the game. The backstory of Tera is that it is the dream of two gods and I don't remember too many novels or movies involving dreams that can be realistically compared to RL.

?  Right, riding side saddle while you are suited up for fighting.  The only reason women rode side saddle is because of the skirts they wore.  You jump a horse riding side saddle and you have one sore backside.  Completely impractical way to ride a horse.  True it is a game and who cares how they ride in a game.

To those playing have a great time, but remember all those SWTOR people who were gushing about the game, they are pretty bored now. TERA has even less end game content than SWTOR.

    I stoped reading there

Tera has way more content than swtor

Play the fcking game before talking trashes

i have a K account and the endgame is fine and now with queen of argon things gets WAY better.

I've been playing MMO's since my brother-in-law showed me UO back in 2001, then 3 years in UO, 3 years in Lineage2, couple of years raiding in WoW, couple of years immersed in Darkfall and on and off returning to Lotro (thank you for having lifetime memberships).

I've found my home for the next few years (no not months, years).

I'd been soloing in this game so far (apart from running the first dungeon - BoL) but last night I joined a guild on the new PvP server - yes they have already catered to demand and started a 4th pvp server. I transferred all 3 toons to the new server (at no cost).

One of the guys wanted to hit some BAM's for a quest (level 24ish). By the time I had got to him he had added 3 more people to the group. We then spent the most fun hour I've had in MMO's for years belting these BAMs. Mind you, this is on a pvp server where everyone can "go red" on you, however we easily grouped with people and had an absolute ball.

I cannot wait to log in again today. I dont remember the last time I felt this enthusiastic for my MMO. My wife isnt too happy about it, she can see my enthusiasm.

I dont need to preach to people the merits of this game. Its going to be huge. Word of mouth will make this game grow.

I have 2 issues at the moment.

    1. I love my beserker for PvE but I know my archer is the better pvp toon for my latency. I also love my priest toon. So I cant help but play 3 toons in parallel. Not so wise on a pvp server and I know I'll get my ass kicked when people hit the cap, but I love all 3 toons.

    2. If there was one thing I would want from other games it would be Lotros ingame voicechat.

Seriously the combat is so good and immersive, if I group with randoms for BAM's etc I dont want to be watching the chat box and typing, I want to fight and speak. I love Lotro's voice chat. This game needs the same.

Anyway, back to the game. And yes while its more difficult for aussies with our 250 ping to Chicago I'm sure I can cope. I wouldn't want to be playing anything else now...

Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe

BINGO! GW2 has changed the MMO standard, as subsription based MMOs are DEAD.

So I need some help. I wanna buy Tera. The game looks sick and I’ve been excited for a long time. Here is the thing though, I dont have a gaming computer and wont have one until late june.  I can apparently run it above minimum and except for my processor almost recommended. Is it worth buying? Does anyone have similar specs? Will it run alright? I want to play the game thoroughly and I have very low lag tolerance. I dont want to waste my time. Thoughts? Inbox me or ask me with an opinion please before I go spending 50 bucks.

Examples of other games I play’s graphic settings:

    Rift: Low

    League: Highest

    WoW(not anymore): High

    SWTOR(not anymore): medium

    TF2: Highest

I've not played since the first open beta and was waiting for headstart to begin before trying it again. I think TERA is a really great game, it's a complete change from the run of the mill MMO's we've seen this last few years. The graphics are top notch, there arnt many bugs, the classes are fun but the real draw is the combat.

I've levelled my warrior to 38 and it's been a blast, done the three dungeons that were availiable during headstart and all were well presented with no bugs.

Looking forward to resuming my adventures on Thursday :)

Ask yourself this, why didn't other developers follow suit with Guild Wars 1 when they came up with that business model?  And also why a sub based mmo (WoW) ended up becoming the biggest mmo in North America :P.

^ This and GW2 is a refreshing change from the standard MMO formula, Tera's only innovation is   it's combat.

Not True,  the political system is also innovative.

And since 90% of your time in all MMO's is 'in-combat'  then your statement is very flippant

Its like saying "yea, we've only re-invented the wheel"

But I suppose if your the kind of person to not care about combat you probably wont notice how clunky GW's combat is in comparison.

Not to diminish Guildwars though,   being able to pay for gold with cash is quite innovative too.   Oh and a cash-shop centric game that has (a very steep) box price... well, thats very innovative

TERA combat is not innovative in the slightest. Its almost a direct cut and paste from the many asian dungeon crawler pseudo-MMOs and single player action RPGs out there.

That's just a ridiculous argument.  Saying something isn't innovative because it's been seen in another genre is silly, and the post of someone who's obviously got a bias against the game.

No other AAA MMOs have that kind of 3rd person shooter combat.  It's different than what is currently out there, even if it's been done before in the past.  This makes in innovative...period.  This would be like me saying that GW2 is a direct rip-off of Rift, Warhammer, and DAoC, or that SWTOR's fully voiced quest system is a ripoff of single player rpgs.  It's a silly argument to make.

Not being a real fan of either, but after playing both GW2 and TERA myself, TERA with the no tab target system holds the upper hand on innovative. And no  I'm not saying they invented it but compared to number of tab target MMOs it almost feels like.

Personaly, at first I had a hard time in TERA and getting rooted through skill animations, but if you give it a chance and learn it's actualy quite nice system.

GW2 - when I tried, I felt like home. It plays exactly like WoW or other themepark games with the added dodging.

Sorry but them Pegasus portal is freakin awesome....reminds me of AC2's portal (sliders)system of moving about the world. Please for the love of god do not EVER remove this from TERA. I know it might sound lame but this is one of my main selling points of the game!

    :)~

Tera ftw indeed! EU server just went offline, waiting for the launch on 3rd.

I made my priest to lvl 32 despite the fact what slow leveller i usually am. At the beginning of the headstart i was little sceptical that i would make my character very high. Somehow levelling went lot faster than i thought, maybe too fast?

Anyway it have been blast to find old school mmo that really shines like they used to. Last night i ran SM instance about 8-9 times and every fight at the last spider-thingie boss i was still amazed how bossfight can be so very well made. And overall, whole consept of combat and groupwork is somehow fresh.. even though it still traditional, but there's something that makes it work in a new way or level.

I dont want to sound like its gonna work for everyone. Just wanted to share my excitement and praise Tera for its launch!

I logged out in Pora Elinu after my first visit there, leaving my toon there to enjoy that magical place ^^ Entering that area gave me shivers.. and thats really something i havent been feeling in ages.
