It is, I'm enjoying the game also, and it truly does get better at higher levels. If you stop and smell the roses look around the environment and mob models are amazing right down to the minions. The AI combat tactics with each mob must have been a development time sink.

Although the starting area is a bit boring I think it's a necessary evil to prepare you for the higher levels. Remember most come from mmo's with lack of dodge/block brain washing where getting hit leaves damage up to the math in your gear. I realize not getting hit is the whole point but when it happens the health regen system sucks. My opinion out of combat it should tick up, time is money. Regardless the combat and timing it takes to pull off your skills is still fun as hell. Sure I wish it was a tad less sticky but you get it down. No matter what class you play it's a different slant on that.

I played GW2 this weekend also and enjoyed that to it's apples and oranges far as I’m concerned. Tera feeds my action fix. As soon as they activate the subscription change I’m definitely down for that year deal =)

Also, Tera has GvG war declarations while GW2 has nothing of the sort. Tit for tat, I actually feel Tera's system has a lot of potential especially with the Vanarch system in play.

    Battlegrounds are not "delayed".

They are simply out of the game even in Korea since they are getting reworked (adding some PVE elements to it from the rumors we get). They won't be in game until late summer at least.

What do  gvg have to do with territorial control? GvG are "just for fun" pvp. Instead of a duel between 2 players you have a duel between 2 guilds. I thought we were talking about territorial control, sieges, meaningful pvp or objectives.

There is no potential in gvg since there is no territorial control. The gvg were implemented long ago in Korea and the potential was left as potential.

The Vanarch system in play has no connection at all with the owpvp.

The 2 PVP Vanarch are choosen via rated battlegrounds. At least when the battleground will be back online until then there is no connection with pvp.

But you 100% cannot say it has more meaningful pvp than GW2.

The only PvP that exists is open ganking. No goals, no objectives, no structured battlegrounds, just duels and on pvp servers, open world pvp with no reprecussions for gankers.

you better look at what is to come then your about to be even more shocked... you can guild vs guild you can also fight for territory control with benefits and perks... just saying.  Also the PVP feels way more action packed and fluid than GW2 even if Anet polishes GW2 PvP still going to feel like WAR... just saying.

So I take it you tried GW2? I also believe that look at what is to come is not the same as what is here. Have you seen WvW in GW2? seems like you need a bit more info on that post....just saying.

It might become more meaningful in the future, but for now it's a largely tacked on mechanic that if you enjoy PVP just for the "fun" of it, PVP servers would be the way to go.

Well, there's another way you can look at the word "meaningful".  PVP in TERA is much more satisfying because it's not just about gear or traits or whatever.  It does require a certain amount of skill.

In theory anyway.  All I've encountered so far is ganking by hi-levels, lol, which no, you're right, isn't all that meaningful.

However, I've tried a few duels with characters around my level and they certainly felt more like a real challanging fight than any pvp in other mmorpgs.  So in that way, it's more "meaningful".

I hope they develop the PVP side of the game further because it really shines.  Although the PVE is much less boring too.

From my understanding, a ruler (vanarch) for each territory is voted in and controls several factors about each territory. No reason a guild cannot "control" the territory, in fact, I know several guilds that plan to do just that. Rule in every sense of the word. In addition, PvP can be ultimately affected by the territory in question from a vanarch.

Edit: Also, I beliere there are 19 vanarchs in total.

Well if by "control" you mean moving some npc and vendors around yeah i mean there is territorial control.

Truth is the Vanarch system is more limited than people think it is. The biggest decision to open or not a region to pvp is not going to be in the NA or EU Tera since we already have PVP and PVE servers (in Korea they have a single ruleset).

You cannot expand your region, you have no castle to defend, you cannot declare war on another region, there are no sieges, and no battles involving the "territorial control" etc.

Where is the "territorial control" if you cannot fight for it?

The political system is in fact marketing scam it's too primitive and limited to be called "political system" but it sounds kinda cool i guess.

    Marketing scam? How so?

I know that the option to PvP for Vanarch was taken out or postponed along with battlegrounds but I think you highly underestimate the want if people to have something exclusive. What guild leader wouldn't want to be a Vanarch if a province? It's exactly what it says it is. You vote, someone is elected and van make certain changes: Political System.

Now beyond that I would love to see it blossom to something better than it is and who's to say it won't? You certainly can't, neither can I. It seems to tie into other future content that has been speculated but not given a release date so I'll enjoy what it brings now.

Regarding GvG on PvP servers: I am to understand you get points for GvG and that helps level your guild? There is a guild level video here on this forum. It states you get really nice gear from vendors when you have a high guild level.

That would be a purpose to PvP beyond the fun of OWPvP. Hasn't a lot of "PvP vs PvE" arguments mentioned that it stinks for PvPers to be forced into PvE to gear up? Well here you go, a way to gain gear by PvP. Now go fight something! :)

Just not worth my time anymore.

I got wrapped up in the hype of GW2 and was quite disappointed when I actually beta'd the game.    I found both the combat and classes to be boring.  I could really care less about "meaningful" pvp,  my favorite PvP games were UO, AC, WoW (vanilla mostly but sunwell isle was kick ass too).  To me WoW Mage > Elementalist,  WoW Rogue > Theif  I believe WoW had massive pvp potential but both the community and the company have just ruined it completely.

I didn't really know much about Tera but I decided to give it a shot.  I am very impressed with the combat and the graphics.  I did think the quests were fairly boring and the starting  island drags on far too long.  Most of the people I see knocking Tera complain about stupid things like quests,  lack of different starting areas, lack of early scenary changes etc etc.  If thats the kind of thing you care about then by all means pass on Tera.  This is one of the first overseas mmorpgs that I can honestly say has immense potential.  I just hope it doesnt become a bot fest like some previous overseas mmorpgs that i've tried.

Game isn't half bad, but idk, the PvP is by no means more meaningful. It may feel better, but it is quite meaningless even with the GvG stuff...

But I mean come on, these two games can coexist, and I dont even see them very comparable. I love GW2 so far, and I like Tera, still haven't decided if im gonna get it, but its not too bad.

Love your avatar btw, Cheshire cat ftfw!

LOL its better then GW2 in what way? All I seen in tera was gank fest 2012 so yeah I' don't agree with that at all. Also tera is nothing new or great, its the same old same old with FPS mechanics, that does not make a great new game sorry. Playing Aion with FPS mechanics just isn't all that great. I'll take GW2 over tera and thats why I'm not playing tera waiting on the better game.

and what is GW2?  A game that left me with a feeling of warhammer online but instead of quest givers I just automatically get the quest when I enter the area. Oh except warhammer was actually a real mmorpg and guild wars 2 has to shove people into zone instances making them unable to play together.  Oh warhammer also had at least some sense of direction in gw2 you just have to run around to run into various events...honestly I much prefer some quests that lead me to different areas of the maps.  The WvW was alright and ill probably play it on occasion so I guess its worth the 60 bucks being that theres no monthly fee but I would have much rather paid per month for a better game.

The way the Tera website describes..Vanarchs are elected (some by PVP) from eleigible and proven Guild Leaders. Which makes sense since they have shown a talent for leading, organization and politics. They control regions or provinces (can't remember what they were called) even to the point of adjusting  game features. I always took the latter as also being able to label a whole province as a PvP zone. This would be awesome..especially if a successful guild war could take away territory from another guild. (I doubt that is possible though...but I can dream of a game where borders change constantly through conflict or politics ..can't I?)

As far as we know the GvG doesn't give you point to help the guild level up. The points merely means that you win or lose a gvg.

Well of course a guild leader would like to be Vanarch. But save the brag rights what's in there to do? You move vendors around the region and other minor things.

That's not how you should "control" a region. And since BHS and Enmasse overhyped the political feature like it is some kind of Wonder now people think ther funniest things about this.  Very few people know how it really works and many like to dream about it.

In Korea it didn't blossom at all. And here in the west the system will be even more limited since one of the biggest decison (making a region pvp free or not) is not available for Vanarchs.

I hated this game in CBT3 (which is the first time I played it). I had no interest. I had totally written it off as another F2P game that was P2P. But after 40 MMO's I decided I'd give it another chance because I was so burnt on everything else and I'm blown away.

I'm so addicted, it's like I have an IV with TERA injected right into my veins. I've been loving the combat, I adore my guild and I've just been having a downright BLAST.

And even though they're having some technical difficulties at the moment, I sit here and wait patiently with a smile, because I know when it comes up I'll just keep enjoying the hell out of it.

Sorry you had problems playing with friends. I only had that about two time as it put me on overflow. I pretty much ran with the five guys from my guild and it was a blast and I'm sure that will be fixed soon. Need to stress the servers and not flood them. It reminds me nothing of Warhammer and I'm not sure where you guys even get that from. Also I was just following my story quest and just happen to run into the DE's. The whole point of the game is to go out find things to do and not be stuck in a stagnant world which they did and did very well. The only time I was not moving was when I was crafting. The way they have it set up is perfect, it keeps you moving forword. I was so glad I didn't have to run back to npc's IT WAS GREAT. Try playing the game the way it was ment to be played and stop trying to compair it to games that hold no bearing on GW2.

Also GW2 is just a great game. Thats it, I like what they have done. Is it life changing no. Is it a diffrent way to play a mmo YES

You make stuff to do after becoming a Vanarch. Especially if you can make your province PvP free for all and that province is a crucial travel point.....or contains the most of a particular resource...etc. Then charge road tariffs or paid writs that grant permission to travel throughout your lands. Yeah..you may not be touched by the Vanarchs guild...but others have no such restrictions ( of course the Vanarch may place a bounty on them for breaking his rule or send some men to deal with the bandits). One could always attain a guild guarded escort  on your journey or to gather. For a small fee or percentage of your crafted products of course... If it's done even half right it would be an interesting mechanic. It's the "being done" thing that I'm waiting to see. All of which is also  dependent on sustaining a decent population.

The first part about the zone instances?  GW 2 zones hold a limited amount of people the number can't be very high because there were many different "overflow servers" (fancy way to avoid saying instances) and as I ran around them I did not encounter many players my guess was less than 100.   Anyway so you are stuck in these instances of the zone and you can't play with your friends if they end up in a different instance (overflow).  Imagine guild wars 1 but instead of the outdoor zones being just you or a prebuilt party it holds more players.  I spent at least 95% of my time in game (when i wasnt pvping) in an overflow server.  Even if you end up in same area as a friend you can still get zoned into another as you switch areas.

The second part there is no direction because there is no quests telling you where to go aside from the story quests.  You just run around for the most part.

GW2 has no monthly payment.  I just spent $60 on GW2, and now would have to spend more money, and a monthly payment, on Tera.  I kind of wish I hadn't purchased GW2 now though.  My friends don't like it even though I do.
